Taxis at Port Everglades?

When passengers disembark in Ft. Lauderdale, are there plenty of taxis available, or does one have to make arrangements ahead of time? The reason I'm asking is, we would need transportation from the port to the Amtrak station to catch a 9:20 am train. (We would transport our own bags off the ship.) Anyone have experience with this, and do you think we could make it to the train station in plenty of time?

Could very well be a problem. At times, it can be a long wait to garner a cab. Depends on how many ships are in port.

Their are usually plenty of cabs. If you do self debark and carry your own bags, you can disembark as early as 6:30. You will have plenty of time.

yes...taxis are staged outside each terminal. If there are 6 or more ships in port...they might run out between 9:15 to 9:45...but they will all come back soon after.

Taxis are a dime a dozen, no need to hire a private service.

Cruised out of Fort Lauderdale many times. We have never had a problem getting a cab from the ship to the airport or the airport to the ship. Avoid the ship's transfer bus. It is more expensive than a cab and is nothing more than "hurry up and wait"!

I believe that as long as you get off as quickly as you can that you should be fine. There are cabs waiting outside the terminal but getting off quickly will leave you some time if you have to wait a few minutes for one

Do we have to make arrangements with the ship ahead of time (we're on the Grand Princess), other than letting them know we can transport our own luggage? Even when you are self-debarking, aren't you still assigned a specific time to leave the ship?

Make sure you get off the ship pretty early. The line for the taxi was incredibly Looooooooog at 10am when we got off the Independence on Saturday. Taxi's were having a hard time getting back into the port because of the traffic -- many ships in port that morning. Fortunately, we were taking the shuttle back to FLL for a rental car.

Talk to the purser's desk on board, and they will make sure you are in the early group.
