Nana G Posted March 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2009 We have always taken Princess Transfers and this year have one purchased for sailing Apr. 9. Question----We would now like to take a Taxi after visiting friends in FLL to ship. Can we have our luggage taken to ship by transfer and do the taxi thing or do we have to board with our luggage on the transfer? After many times at various ports, we have never been asked to accompany our luggage on the transport at time of boarding. Luggage is always picked up outside hotel door and not seen again. Do you think this would work? Thanks so much for any help. Melody
mickiemac Posted March 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2009 We purchased the princess transfer for our first cruise a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at Rennaisance and inquired about taking a taxi over to port earlier. They already had our luggage and said that we had to be present for the luggage sorting and board the bus that it was put on. In order for us to have tazied to the port we were told we would have had to take our luggage ourselves and inform the desk we would not be on the transport bus. It all worked out well for us as the bus had us at the port very early and it was wonderful not having to deal with the luggage ourselves.
Nana G Posted March 24, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Thanks for the info. We have never been told this nor checked in, maybe the cruise after 9/11. We just might take the luggage with us. How early did you get to the port? We were planning on a visit before hand to see some friends vacationing in FLL. mickiemac Posted March 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2009 The bus got us to the port by 1. We were onboard in just a few minutes and had our luggage by 2-230.

We did, as you say, put our luggage out in the morning. Then we had to identify it as they loaded it onto a truck for the port. We got sick of sitting in the lobby (it was too cool to sit by the pool as we had planned) waiting for the bus so told the rep we were taking a taxi to the port. She was not happy but let us do it. (Meanwhile we could have walked to the port) If we had just not showed up to identify the luggage or get checked off her list I don't know what would have happened to our luggage. You could try to find the Princess rep in the AM and explain your problem to her. Or, If you are already taking a taxi to visit friends, why not cancel the transfers and take the luggage with you. Nana G Posted March 25, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Thank you chamima. It is too late to cancel transfer since we leave in 14 days!!! Yippee. Your situation sounds similar. We are at the Hollywood beach Marriott so maybe there procedure might be different. We will try to find the rep in the AM and sort this out. 1 way or another, you can bet we will get to the ship!!!! Contact your travel agent or, if you booked directly, Princess. They will probably refund the money to your onboard account.
SANDEE Posted March 26, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Good Morning, We have Princess transfers also. When they take you to the Renassiance from the airport do you have all your luggage in hotel room with you or just your overnight bag? Just wondering where to pack makeup for next moring as we have a red eye flight so will have the day to hang around the hotel. thanks, Sandee
Nana G Posted March 26, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks caribill, I will give Princess a call today! Sandee, The transfer from the airport to hotel will also carry your luggage. You will be instructed once there, when to leave your luggage outside your door for pickup in the AM. There should be a letter waiting at check-in or a Princess Rep at the lobby. You will then take your carryon to the ship. Hope this helps. Melody
LeeW Posted March 26, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2009 We have skipped the bus twice since it often takes forever to show up. No problem either time. While the hotel staff moved the luggage downstairs, we still had to identify our luggage for the Princess rep. Once that was done we took a cab. bubbadog Posted March 26, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2009 You should stay with your luggage,to much of a risk of it getting lost:rolleyes:
Nana G Posted March 26, 2009 Author #12 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Except for right after 9-11, we have never in 17 cruises had to identify luggage or accompany it to the bus! Of course we have also been on the bus. Never saw luggage after it was picked up from hallway until it was delivered to cabin. I plan to call Princess and see if I can cancel at this late date.
