Owners Suite/Tahitian/Ocean

If anyone could give me details of which is the best O/S (aft) to book for Ocean Princess (cabin/deck) I should be most grateful for the information.

We are considering for Europe 2010. We have cruised only EP/Island/Crown/Grand previously so should like as much information on the smaller ship as we can get before booking, especially the obvious differences we will find. (Does that sound stupid - I know that it is a much smaller ship)!:o

Thanks in anticipation.

Deck 7 would be the quietest....Deck 8 suites are under the buffet area.

Deck 7 ....convenient....two decks up to buffet and pool....two decks down to Dining Room and bars, etc

We have sailed this ship and her sister, the Royal, and love the small ships.

If you go HERE (or in the pictures link in my signature - under med cruise), you can see pictures of our cabin on the Royal. We were in an aft suite, on 6th deck (this may be one of the larger cabins overall - with balcony - I'm not sure). Nice cabins & amenities. I'd pick this deck - it seemed pretty convenient. I wouldn't pick right under the pool.

Any information gratefully received.

Will I feel the motion of the ship more than on the larger ships please (just want to make the right choice)? - the Star is running a similar itinerary.

Thanks again.

I agree, deck 6 would afford you the largest balcony.

Motion, yes, on smaller ships there is normally more motion. We sailed on the Tahitian (soon to be Ocean Princess), and even mid ship there was a lot more motion when seas were a bit rough, than on the larger ships. But it doesn't bother us, in fact, we kind of like to know we are on a ship. ;)

I only really felt the motion on 1 or 2 nights of a 12 day cruise - really when it was at high speed only. And, ever since my first cruise (the Crown's big TILT), I do tend to feel motion. But it never was very bad on the Royal. Granted, we were in the Med/Black Sea, not the ocean, but it wasn't too bad.

We were on the Tahitian 3 years ago. (On the 8th floor and heard almost nothing!) She is a BEAUTIFUL ship. It's nothing like sailing on the larger ships! It's like sailing used to be... With only 600 passengers you get to know the staff and vice versa. There was no problem with motion. The only negative would be if you like Anytime Dining. They only have traditional.

If you go make sure to go for the paninis in the buffet in the late afternoon and after 11pm the Italian Steakhouse (forgot the name) turns into a bistro. We went there every night for coffee or tea before bed and, other than the cruise staff, we were the only ones there. It was so romantic!

The ship is a sister to the Pacific and there is a thread right now about the Pacific doing a roundtrip FLL- Manaus cruise. Ask any questions there.

I agree - it is nice to know you're actually on a ship - lulls you to sleep! If it's not too bad I can cope - doesn't affect Tony (so far)! I think I can cope with a smaller casino/less public rooms/one pool etc - as it is quite a port- intensive itinerary.

Do you think we would hear noise from the dining room if we opted for deck 6 please? Sorry to keep coming back with questions.

Many thanks for your help.

Glenda

Thanks again Cathy and Karen - it will be a Med cruise.

I'm following Pia's "Live From" too - so will ask there as you suggest.

Many thanks

Friends have sailed in the OS on the Tahitian/Ocean 3 or 4 times now on deck 6 and said it is by far the quietest and best location. So good in fact, they talked us into booking a deck 6 OS for an upcoming voyage on the Pacific. ;)

We've just booked the Ocean Princess for fall of 2010 for a 7 night Med. cruise. I heard that there isn't a buffet during the evening hours for dinner. Is that true?

Also, to the OP, the Ocean Princess will be going into a month-long dry dock to completely refurbish the interiors and rename her. So, we'll get it pretty "fresh". :D

Thanks for the info on the dry dock. That's even better news!

Not 100% sure about the buffet question but I'm sure we'll get answers.

Can't book in the UK until 20th April but I feel confident enough now, after reading the replies to my questions (thanks very much everyone for your input and fabulous pictures, appreciated) to go ahead.

We appreciated your help and assistance. Just to let you know bookings opened for us today and our T/A managed to book an OS for our Greek Isles cruise next year:D - Deck 6 - only 17 months to wait!!!:(

Luckily we have a Caribbean to look forward to before then.:)

Thanks - it was a relief I can tell you. I was worried they would have all gone - but pleased when the T/A called to say she's been successful!:)

I'm not the most patient - but will just have to bide my time - I guess the time will pass quickly. Have Caribbean booked in March so something else to look forward to.

Can't wait. Are you on this one too - 8 September?

You & me both! I am constantly working on being more patient! ;)

We're just a couple weeks after you - on Sept. 29. Are you doing a pre-cruise stay?

Sure wish we could do about a month pre-cruise, but we're lucky to be getting away for 11 days (1 entire day is spent flying-argh!)

I'll let you know how it is! Sorry we shan't be meeting you.

No pre-cruise stay - we fly to Athens but it is only about 4 and a half hours for us.

I know what you mean about the long flights though - we flew to Miami to pick up the Crown in January (10 and a half hours) - we fly to Las Vegas in June (10 and half again) - we must be a little crazy!:)

Enjoy your cruise.

We're looking at 16 to 18.5 hrs. to fly to Rome and Florence, unfortunately. DH insists on booking Business/First Class, so we won't be going with a Cat. OS on this cruise since the airfare is a small fortune. A reg. balcony cabin with the tiny shower will have to do. Sure wish we had a short flight like you do!

Please do report back when you get home. I'll be anxious to hear all about it! :)

When we went on the Tahitian we were also concerned that there wasn't a 24 hour buffet. However, we needn't have been. There is food 24 hours but it's in different locations. When the buffet shuts down they open a Panini making station in that area until dinner and then at dinner time they have a casual "served" dinner also in the area of the buffet - it just isn't a buffet.

Not positive about now but this is what they did 3 years ago.

That's a very long flight! Luckily the BC should make it more bearable for you.:)

We cut out our usual Caribbean booking (that would be for 2011) and plumped for the OS on this one instead!

Certainly will keep you updated.

All the best

Six or seven is best. Sailed Pacific Princess three years ago across the Indian ocean. No problems with motion or noise. Had cabin 7119.

WARNING!!!!!! We booked 7119 on the Royal 20 months out and Princess canceled the cruise! Have a back-up plan.
