4/26/09 Live from Carnival Splendor !!!

I stayed at the Atrium lobby to watch all of the people gathering by the pursers deck, yelling and dropping the F word. Mainly one lady and one guy that was inciting a riot. It got pretty ugly and security was called. Then the new CD Brad had to sit there and listen and take in all of that abuse. It was pretty bad. Not sure what happened to the 2 that were irate but shortly everyone left the area and it got nice and quiet.

Everyone wanted to stay anchored out in Cabo. It was so nice and sunny and being right there, everyone could enjoy the pool and also get a nice tan. San Fran is cold etc And guess what, no one has Cold weather clothing, I sure don't have a jacket coming from Sunny San Diego.

OUCH!

I was wondering when the first mention of onboard civil unrest would begin. I don't even want to imagine being couped up with a bunch of unhappy people. Sounds like so far it's being held at bay. Unfortuantely, it's San Francisco Bay. Remember my one and only time I went there one June, and it was COLD. I was glad I had packed a sweater.

Hope you all make the best of it! I wouldn't mind being there rather than here!

Hey Fred~~~It's Pat, sassyredhat. Don't want to steel your thread :D

I have the same opinions as Fred. We're in 7434 an L-shaped balcony on Empress deck. We have decided we need more leg room around the foot of the bed. Can't access the "john" very well. We will book a mid-ship balcony in the future.

Long Beach is a nightmare. Will not sail out of there again.

I like the decor. Crew is great ! Food is great ! Fred is funny !

CC'er group if fun to be with.

I'm with Fred---SF is too cold for my clothing. Bet there will be a run on sweatshirts when the shops open.

The ship is "rockin' and rollin' today.

Hi Fred,

Could you try to find out why they would even want to cruise north vs. just staying anchored (or circling) in warm waters? I am probably way off base, as there must be another adgenda that I am not aware of, but wouldn't it actually save money, i.e. fuel, if they just hung out in warm waters? Once you get cold, few if any, will be on the Lido, i.e. less DOD's to be sold.

I don't gamble, but could it be that they know that unhappy cruisers tend to gamble more?:D

Again, all I really am interested in is why they would go cold vs. warm when they can just anchor here and there.

Thanks,

Crusin6

We were there in August and had jackets and still were cold. Especially near or on the water. But its a very neat city. We took a city tour on a trolley vehicle and really enjoyed it.

Guess we went at the right time after all. I wouldn't mind just spending 7 days on the Splendor, we had a great time on board...but we also were with about 33 other people in our group that we knew. Always something to do...and the food was fantastic as was the service.

Day 4, Wednesday at Sea once again

Guys, before I forget, we were looking forward to the Hardrock cafes here in Mexico to pick up Drumsticks for Wendy's brother but as you know we will be looking for a San Fran Hardrock cafe instead to get those drumsticks there. So if you guys from the Bay area can give us a tip as to where a Hardrock cafe is located, we can take a cab from the Pier area to head on over. Thanks

I forgot to mention last night that I ordered the Ribs for dinner, they were slices of rib meat, very very good, there was a spicy dark brown sauce on them also, now the rice that it came with was very good also, the first fork full of rice went into my mouth and BANG !!! it had a sharp Spice in it that got our attention immediately, everyone at the table that had the rib dinner said the same things about the rice, BANG and after each bite of rice BANG, it just kept on going.

I also ordered the Flank Iron Steak cooked medium again, its always a favorite and so was the French Onion Soup, I always order that and Love it.

Everyone onboard seem very cheerful and many with lots of San Fran Jokes. We are planning on walking the town, hitting Pier 39, Fishermans W. and That Garideli Chocolate square. We got until 10pm so there is no rush.

Since we couldn't pick up any new entertainment while in Cabo, we will be having a Guest Talent show, Probably every night lol... Well the Guest Talent show will start at 10pm. I will probably make it because those I really enjoy.

We got up this morning and once again had breakfast in the Dining room, the breakfast there is the best. Vegi Omellet, 3 Eggs over medium, Brown Tater Tots, French Toast and my favorite Pineapple Juice.

Todays Lunch in the dining room is Fish & Chips and Ribs, I will surely make that one.

We got our Customs Declaration form in the cabin with a copy of instructions to help fill it out for Fridays arrival into San Fran.

For those that do like to play Texa's Hold'em on this ship there is only 1 electronic table, thats it, on the Spirit Class there are 3 electronic table and they usually hold tournaments on those, not sure if they will hold a tournament on this ship with only 1 table.

We got our VIP letters for the galley tour for Saturday 2nd May at 10:30am in the Black Pearl Dining room (deck 3) so if there are any Cruise Critic members reading this and wants to head down, be my guest.

Also as you can see, post number 177, Pat said it, she would never cruise out of Long Beach again, it was hell, I am sure those that cruised last week it all went well for you guys but you should of been there this week, nothing like last week. This was my 4th cruise out of Long Beach, so beleive me when I tell you it wasn't good.

Guys, please, we get enough of In & Out here in San Diego, Wendy lives for that burger and fries, I would like to know of a nice Steak House nearby in San Fran.

I live in Palm Springs, and, yeah, they are talking about high 80s this weekend and no humidity. We are going away because it is our anniversary and I have to get mine away from his medical practice. The weather here has been generally no colder than 70s days for the past several months and we have not seen rain in months, yet everything is green and the flowers are all in blossom. It truely is beautiful here. Plenty of hotels rooms available this weekend too as nothing big is going on. I will take SF if that is what they offer at Carnival. As long as it is not SD or Catalina. If that is the case we may jump coastlines and do the Caribbean a bit later.

hahha I live in palm Springs too. The weather has been beautiful! Well actually we live in Rancho but same diff :)

NO, but it's my favorite place ....I actually grew up near the very

first one. I have visited there many many times...they are the freshest

made burgers anywhere. Once during high school we drove to all 17

locations in one weekend. !!! Now you couldn't do it in a month!!

They are in VEGAS & Phoenix Arizona as well........ENJOY Ron

Ron - isn't that the one on Lankershim?? I've been to that one MANY MANY times -- the BEST burger in the world, bar none. Beats Tommy's and Pinks by a mile....

Fred, I looked and there is a Hard Rock at Pier 39, #256 was listed by the address.

You should try to get Host Randy to sing for the Guest Talent Show, he has performed before. Tell him I said hello from Dallas if you see him.

Keep the posts coming, I am living vicariously through this with you, as I am sure many others are as well.

Fred,

There are twi Hard Rock's in San Fran. One is at Pier 39 the other is on Van Ness, both are cool. I'm not sure about a steak house but The Crab House is home of the World Famous "Killer Crab" (Whole Crab roasted in a secret garlic sauce). Located on Pier 39, the Crab House offers stunning views of the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf. I'm sure they also have steak!!

Hey if you see Meredith, Matt and little Ryan (with Randy's CC group) please tell them that Kat said hello and I hope they are having a great time even with all the changes. They need to call me from SF!!!

Hi Fred,

There is a Hard Rock Cafe at Pier 39 -- very close to where the ship will dock. You should be able to walk there without any problems. Just turn left on the Embarcadero and walk towards Fisherman's Wharf.

Cheers!

Not sure what pier you will be docking at ......But it really doesn't matter, just start walking towards pier 39, it will be the first building on the left when you get there, can't miss it.

There is also a Bubba Gumps upstairs in the back left corner, they have some really good drinks.

Also if ya feel like a walk (or a taxi) ChinaTown has some great Mystery food, just point and don't ask!

Thanks for the info guys, you guys are the best. And I will surely ask Randy to Sing for us tonight.

Its one thing to plan all year for Mexican ports, and now we have to go to plan B, San Fran.

Thanks for the help.

Fred

Todays movies are The House Bunny, Get Smart and FireHouse Dog, I am heading up to the Casino to donate some more money.

Don't blame you. I'd be drinking heavily by now.

Tamiflu is absolutely a treatment for flu. It is not an antibiotic, it is anti-viral and can help prevent flu, treat flu, AND ease flu symptoms.

I said there is no antibiotics to treat the flu since it's a viral infection, excuse me for not putting the label of antiviral on tamiflu, I did say Tamiflu is a treatment...... don't you jump down my throat, reread what I said.

I am an RN and used to work an infectious disease floor and I know the difference between virus and antibiotics, I was pointing out cipro and zpack are NOT treatments for the flu.

To everyone on the Splendor right now: thanks so much for continuing your posts, especially during this tough time. I am glad to see so many of you are still keeping your good attitudes. I do wish they would have decided to stay in warmer temps for your sake - there must be an underlying cost reason (fuel consumption, etc) for them to go north again. We were in San Fran for our honeymoon 26 years ago, (stopover on way to Hawaii) and all I remember was how chilly it was in June! It will be interesting to see how Carnival handles all the unhappy campers. However, with the flu reports coming out now, you should probably be happy you did not port in Mexico. Many parents at my school are panicking and keeping their kids home - and we are not even in NYC!! I wish you all a safe journey, and a good rest of vacation.

Not to bring further bad new to the situation BUT we are expecting rain Friday & saturday here in northern California.....Looks like you all will be spending lots of time at Hard Rock Cafe ducking out of the (possible) rain.

Not to worry, there is plenty of indoor things to do in S.F.....Drink, drink drink!

Fred,

I called some pals in San Fran.......they said for steak to try Boboquivari's, better known as Bobo's......I looked it up online and this is what it said.

A new San Francisco boutique restaurant that caters to the discriminating steak eater. We dry-age our beef four to six weeks and offer simply the best steak in town. The sexy setting--red interior, black and white striped tablecloths and plush, red leater booths--and sizzling steaks set the mood. The rest is up to you. 1450 Lombard at Van Ness. Keep in mind they are only open from 5 PM to 10 PM.

If you change your mind and feel like Italian then I would suggest the Stinking Rose.......awesome.

'specially once it started to snow!

ROFLMAO . . . I'd have to vote for staying in warm waters, but also I realize its not a DEMOCRATIC situation. Cap'ns gotta do what he's gotta do. :)

Wait'll they hit Frisco and discover that EVERYTHING costs 10 times what it would in Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan ! ! That ought to produce a grumble or two.

(sure hope the stewards cleaned the ashtrays on the balconies before embarking):D

Fred, sounds like you guys are making the best of the situation....sorry you had to miss Mexico, but hope you have fun in San Fran.

I am looking forward to seeing your pics of your cabin. I swear that our inside cabin on the Pride was smaller than the 2 oceanview cabins we've been in on Miracle and Valor. Folks always insist that inside and oceanview are identical....185 sq. ft. I do not think that is true. Everyone says "it's the way they are laid out that makes the inside SEEM smaller", or "it's because the inside has no window that makes it SEEM smaller". I say, I've been in both....and our inside WAS smaller.

Thanks for the thread! It's been a fun read. :)
