We just got back from a med cruise on the Solstice and used RomeInLimo for an Amalfi Coast tour. It was the best tour of our cruise, and our guide/driver, Carmine, was excellent. He was knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. He took us to a great place for lunch that overlooks Positano. It was La Tagliata, as others have previously mentioned in this thread. They grow their own produce and everything was delicious. The entire tour, as we said before, was delightful we would highly recommend it. Here's a picture of the view from the restaurant:

We had the pleasure of being a part of Larry and Jan's tour and we too agree that it was the best tour of our cruise. RomeInLimo is beyond entertaining and professional. Carmine was a charming gentleman who made each one of us feel as though we were his VIP guests.

Highly Recommend!

We used RIL for two ports on our LOS cruise last month -- Rome and Naples. Agree with all the positive reviews above - RIL is the way to go when you have limited time in a port. They were prompt, courteous, informative and you have the flexibility to see what is most important to you.

Mauro (sp?) was our driver in Rome. As stated above, Mauro walked us right throught the crowds at the Coliseum to the front of the line! We walked around the Coliseum for a while, then were picked up curbside and drove through the streets of Rome with Mauro pointing out historical spots (too many to mention, but Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps were some of them). We then had a delicious lunch near the Vatican and were whisked away again to meet our Vatican Guide (Massimo). Again, you do not wait in lines (this feature alone is worth the cost since time is so valuable). Massimo was a big hit with our group of 6. He breezed us through the crowds (seemed to know all the guards) and was extremely knowledgeable. As others has said, he had an IPad on which he showed us closeups of many of the paintings. I would definitely request Massimo as a Vatican guide if you have never been to the Vatican before. After the Vatican and St. Peters we did a little shopping nearby and were driven back to the ship. Great time for a snooze!

In Naples, we were met by Giovanni (note: you have to walk out through the port gate - RIL cannot pick you up by the ship gangway as in other ports). Giovanni was very friendly and discussed the history of the area on our short drive to Pompeii. Lucia was our guide at Pompeii (guides inside Coliseum, Vatican and Pompeii are extra, but can be arranged by RIL), and she was great. Again, although it wasn't too crowded since we were there early, Lucia smoothly got us through to where we needed to go. We were there for 2 hours (it is a very large area, you could spend 6 hours), and learned so much in that short time. I can't imagine seeing Pompeii without a guide. I would certainly request Lucia as a guide there again. After Pompeii we were off to Positano. We made a stop or two at scenic overlooks for pictures. It is amazingly beautiful. Giovanni brought out crackers and a bottle of champagne and we all made a toast (nice touch). We said we envisioned having a leisurely lunch overlooked the Med and Giovanni delivered -- the Trattoria La Tagliata for lunch was wonderful - one of those moments when you say "it just doesn't get any better than this"! Food was great and a good value. A singer came out singing Italian songs. It was definitely a highlight. We then drove on to Sorrento for some shopping. Giovanni told us what shops to go to and what shops to avoid. On the way back, he played Dean Martin cd of Italian music and even sang along a bit and gave us a bottle of Lemoncello as a little gift. A nice ending to a spectacular day!

We were also in the group with Hollywood Traveler for the Amalfi Coast tour. Carmine was a treasure and the lunch was unbelievable. It was definitely our favorite tour. We had so much fun and saw Carmine's "most beautiful place in the world." We would have to agree with him. It was a great experience.

We used Romeinlimo in Rome on our Sept Mediterranean cruise on the Solstice. Nico was our guide and he was great. We saw all the sights and beat the crowds to the Coliseum early in the morning. It was a fast-paced day because we wanted to include everything, but he did the best he could to get us to see all we wanted to see. We didn't have any shopping time, but the sights were more important. We also hired a guide for the Vatican and that was very important. She was very good as well. I didn't make a note of her name, unfortunately, but she did a very good job.

"Had the best day of our vacation this September with Maurizio, our guide from Romeinlimo. His knowledge, sense of humor and patience made our day in Orvieto and Civita the best of our vacation. He was beyond excellent and we highly recommend Romeinlimo and do request Maurizio-5 stars!"

As you can see and review on the live/blog weblink from our June Solstice cruise, this review will give you lots of information on the Solstice, Barcelona and some of the ports your potential trip would visit. Below are a few highlight photos on some of what we really loved and enjoyed on the Solstice. Very nice ship. Well designed and built. Great staff, nicely maintained, etc.

If you have more questions, post on my live/blog site and I will be happy to provide you with more details. In Naples, we had a great private tour with Carmine from RomeInLimo. You can see those details for that port, Rome, etc. on my postings.

Recently back from a June 7-19 Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 43,431 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

The Solarium was one of our favorite areas on the Solstice. Food and drinks were nearby and it was very relaxed and sophisticated. Quieter, too, as it is an adults-only area. Two hot tubs here. Not crowded, especially in the evenings. Nice art and design are there as a part of this sparkling ship facility.:

This is a view of the Solstice main pool area. Love the sun and activities here!:

For entertainment in the Solstice Theatre, it was called “Solstice -- The Show” featuring a European-style dance, air acts, music, etc. Very dramatic and interesting as they swing, twirl and soar over the audience and stage. Here is one example of the “air show” put on by the show performers.:

Many times at the pool, the “party band” is going at it with great tunes, adding to the fun and excitement.:

Here is an overview for this wonderfully appointed Murano room with nice wood, ceiling, glass, etc., details.* Maximum capacity for seating in 90.* For the last night, they have 30 people on a waiting listing.* We booked ahead which was smart in order to get a specific date on a sea day.:

To start with, Jany at RIL answered every email question promptly and sometimes within minutes. Great customer service!

Rolando picked us up at the port no problems. We were a party of 8 people and the van was comfortable. Rolando was very personable and friendly. As for information by the driver, we didn't get much and the van A/C was too loud to here him from the back when he was talking. The site states that the driver is not a guide, so did not expect him to give us history, but it would have been nice to here what he was saying. If I had to do it again, I would have arranged a smaller group of 6 or 4 and paid a little more. It would have been nice to converse with him about life in Italy.

Rolando was excellent at getting us where we need to go. He let us off to see the Trevi Fountain and even gave us coins to throw in.

Then, he took us to the Spanish Steps where we walked from the top down to the bottom for pictures.

Next, he took us to the Colloseum for 45 mins which was enough time to tour through it. We didn't need a guide, and buying the tickets online made it easy to by pass the very long line that was there for ticket purchase. It would have been nice to tour the Palentine Hill, but time was limited.

Rolando made reservations at a great restaurant near the entrance of the Vatican. The appetizers were on the table waiting for us when we got there. Great restaurant with plenty of atmosphere! The food was excellent and came with wine for only 15 euros each. Don't pass this part up, as you have an option to do lunch on your own, do it with the driver's arrangement.

When we got to the Vatican, with pre-purchased online tickets (don't buy the tickets when you get there). Rolando really impressed us with his ability to talk us past the tour lines and to get right into the building. We felt like VIPs. As for the tour guide in the Vatican, it depends on what you want from your experience. We did not do the guide and enjoyed everything we saw. If you are into the details, reserve a guide. The crowds are insane in the museum and the large groups from the ships are hard to get around, but being a small group we worked are way around better than most. St Peter's was at the end of the tour and was spectacular to walk through (I believe you can do this for free admission if you don't want to see the museum and the Sistine Chapel).

All in all, a great experience from our tour with RIL. ;)

We recently returned from our cruise on the Carnival Magic. We used Romeinlimo for our ports of Rome and Naples. Used the company because of all the positive comments seen here. We were met by Manuel for our tour of Rome and had a wonderful day. He was so personable and very knowledgeable. Showed us all of the sights, dropped us off for a wonderful lunch very near the Vatican. He took us to meet our private guide, Katherine, who was excellent. She made the tour so worthwhile as it was extremely crowded there that day. Manuel delivered us back safely to the ship, what a joy he was. In Naples, we ended up with Raphael after a slight mix-up in the number of people in our reservation. What a great day he had for us. We drove the Amalfi coast with stops for pictures, to sample grapes, lunch in an excellent mountainside restaurant in Ravello, in Amalfi for shoppng. Raphael even gave us a bottle of Limoncello at the end of the day. Again we were returned safely to the ship in style. Will definitely use them again if I am fortunate enough to travel in Italy in the future.

Used RIL for Rome and Naples on our 9/25/11 12-day Carnival "Magic" cruise. All I can say is they did a great job; on-time, knowledgeable, very friendly, flexible. Their minivans navigate the busy cities much better than tour busses and are much cheaper. They also recommended very good restaurants in both cities.

Some advice: go with the private guide in the Vatican and Pompeii.

We just completed our cruise on Celebrities Silhouette 9-27-11 sailing. Our group of 6 people used RIL for three different days. We had Nick our driver for a day in Rome. He arrived at our hotel on time and in a nice van. He took us to many of the sights we wanted to see and did a great job of explaining the history and background of what we were seeing. He arranged lunch for us but unfortunately it was not a good restaurant and we all agreeed it was the worst food we had the whole time we were in Italy. Nick needs to find better places for RIL clients. Another day we had Katherine as our guide for the Vatican. We had purchased our tickets on line and had a voucher which she took and went to get the tickets for us. She had us in and about the Vatican area very quickly and moved us around the mass of crowds very well. She made things so interesting and was a great joy to have as our guide. She also spoke perfect English as she had spent some of her early teenage years in the Stastes so she was very easy to understand. We would ask for her again. On our final day of our cruise, Raffaelle met out cruise ship in Naples and we saw the amalfi coast and Pompeii. He gave us information about the area. We met our guide we had hired through Jany for Pompeii mid day and were extremely glad that we had taken a guide with us for Pompeii. Don't go without a guide. We paid extrea for the guide but it was well worth it. RIL did a great job for us on the three occasions we used them and we would use them if we went back to Italy again. Jany was very helpful and answered my emails quickly.

We were taking the cruise of a life time and knew each port in Italy would be jammed packed. I didn't want to be on a bus with 40 people and following a guide holding a ships sign through the streets of Florence, Rome or Naples.

I did some research, this board included, and discovered Romeinlimo. There were 4 of us and Romeinlimo gave us personalized service MUCH cheaper than the ship's excursions.

Don't be concerned about the logistics of getting to and from the boat. It could not be simpler. They pick you up and drop you off at the port.

The guides are the BEST. Romeinlimo uses only local guides. Believe me the guides are great. We had Fabrizio was in Florence, Franco in Rome, Braydon at the Vatican and Tony your driver from port of Naples. If you are lucky enough the get this crew you to will have memories to last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to choose Romeinliimo for your Italian tours.

Rome in Limo Tour of Florence

My wife and I were just on the Sept 4th 12 day med. on the Carnival Magic. This having been my first cruise as an active member of CC I learned many new tips on here as well as hooking up with others who had set up private excursions for many in our group. By the time I became active on the roll call, the CC member who had set up many private excursion groups for us informed me that they had set up thier personal limit for tours already, but suggested I contact RIL and they would be very helpful.

From the first EMail with Jany and all the way through, prompt responses, follow ups, great suggestions and a total wonderful experience.

My newbie to CC challenge was going to be to set up a 8 pax van for 4 couples for Pisa/Florence. That happened so quickly I had others asking to be in and decided to contact RIL to set up a second van. That also was done very easily.

Then Jany got back to me and offerered a wonderful suggestion. Instead of two vans, she offered us a mini bus for all 16 of us, and besides the driver, we would also have Marco as a full day tour guide. Bounced the idea off a few of our fellow travelers and all agreed that would be great.

Arriving at the Port of Livorno, as soon as we left the ship we were met and led a very short walk to our mini-bus. I know I was not the only person smiling when we saw this beautiful sleek bus that was reserved for us.

The Mini-bus was just as beautiful and comfortable inside. The AC worked well on the hot summer day for all on the bus, front to back, as well as the clarity of the guides microphone and speaker system.

From the moment we arrived, we were met with smiles, profesionalism, and courtesy as well as dashes of humor. Our tour guide Marco was very well informed and prepared to assist us on our stops in Pisa and Florence as well as what various sites we saw along the way. Giving us a clear, well presented education on the many sites we would see. He also took the time to tell us of any potentional safety concerns, such as crowds, traffic, and shopping. He did this in a informing manner, making sure that the info was to ensure our safety and that the visit was a wonderful experience for all.

In Florence, our driver dropped us with Marco our tour guide in the downtown area to continue our in depth tour. He kept our group together well, ensured we were all together, and gave us all an astounding experience.

The group I had together for this was a group that became friends and talked with each other often over the 12 day cruise. Without exception, all felt that this was the best excursion day, best guide, beautiful minibus, and fully worth the expense to be given such a memorable experience. My wife saw the look in my face as I heard from all that had put thier trust in me and RIL, and how much they enjoyed the day.

My special thanks to Jany for all the organization help, to Marco for being an excellent guide, and Giovanni who served as such a perfect driver for every minute.

I just want to say that our party of six thought that this was THE way to go in Rome. Roberto was our driver and we found him to be a wonderful guide. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted in each place and chose exactly where we wanted to go. He told us where to get the best photo's and took us to a great place for lunch (Osteria dei Pontefici) that was 20 euro pp. They started our meal with these wonderful marinated vegetables. I am searching for recipes!

This was the second visit to Rome for my husband and myself and the first for the other two couples we were with. We did an NCL excursion the last time. If I were planning this trip over again I would have chosen private tours for every stop as it was such a wonderful way to go. If you have any doubts about booking with RomeinLimo - do not hesitate!

My only dissapointment was with the Vatican museum. We did not book a private guide (which I am very glad at this point) and it was horribly, horribly crowded. You felt like you were shuffling along to get to the next room in a can of sardines. Sadly, by the time we reached the Sistine Chapel we were all so tired of the crowds that we spent only a brief time enjoying the ceiling before we were ready to escape the throngs. :(

That obviously has nothing to do with RomeinLimo - I just wished that the Vatican made a better attempt at crowd control. I would have skipped it all together if I had known how it would be.

I think a private guide for the Vatican Museum is so worth the money. We did it the first time on our own and it was crowded and we just didn't know what we were looking at. Last time we hired a private guide (arranged through Romeinlimo) and the difference is incredible. I guess if you are an art major or have all day, maybe it's a bit different.... but for us to get information on what we were looking at and how some of the pieces came to be at the Vatican... I found it fascinating. Some day I would love an entire day to just wander the museum without being in a hurry. I just don't think I can talk my husband into that. :D

Hi All

We used Romeinlimo for 3 tours on our recent cruise in the Med. The first was arranged by someone else for Pisa/Florence and our driver was called Mike. Our second we had Nick in Rome and in Naples we had Rapheal.

All 3 were absolutely fantastic and managed to get us around all the places we wanted to see (& more!) in our short time. All the tours are arranged to how you want to do them and see and they were fantastic at recommending other places of interest on the way too.

As they use mini vans, they can stop and get to places that the ship tours can't and you can get some wonderful views and new places that others wouldn't. In all the places, we managed to get parking right by the places we were visiting so very little walking and they were very prompt at collecting us too.

The highlight of our tour was Raphael in Salerno/Naples. He was great at organising everything and managed to get a guide in Pompeii which meant we were first in on the day and got to see everything before it got busy. Then he arranged a fantastic lunch at a local restaurant in Sorrento which we had so much fun. On the way to Positano, along the Amalfi coast, he put on some music and the first song was "that's amore!" which was just magical for the views we were seeing. And finally, as he dropped us back to the ship we were given a lovely bottle of Limoncello from Sorrento for our group. Absolutely fantastic and those little touches made this tour the best out of the 3.

Again, can't recommend using them highly enough and you get much better value than any ships tour with a smaller group of people.

Don't hesitate to use them.

We used Rone in limo for tours to FLorence,Rome, Pompeii and amalfi coast. It was a great decision to use RIL. Such a wonderful way to see these amazing cities from a cruise ship. We used a private guide for the Vatican and for Pompeii. Sarah, our Vatican guide, was absolutely fabulous. I can it imagine trying to see the Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peters Basilica without a knowledgeable guide. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and gave us so much background and insight on the paintings, sculptures etc. Worth every dime! Our private Pompeii guide Barbara was also fabulous.

Recently used RIL for a tour of Florence/Pisa. Our driver, Paolo and guide Marina were fabulous. Marina stayed with our small group (6) for the day and her knowledge and understanding of the sights were something we would never have experienced on our own or with a guide book. I highly recommend this tour company and if you are lucky enough to have Marina as your guide, you won't forget the experience. I would definitely recommend and use RIL in the future.

ENJOY!!
