  • 7 months later...

Just booked Oasis for Thanksgiving.. and you are right Cruisin Mama- It is a budget breaker- Will cost 2x as much as our 2 week trip to Europe last year in a Royal Suite on X! ACK!

But man- she looks amazing!

Please keep this thread alive with posts and reviews, info etc....

The big question for me right now is- do we really even want to do excursions? Or just spend the week on board!?!?

SOOO EXCITED!

First of all: Yes, the Oasis is definitely a great ship for families!!! I´ve been on for 5 nights during the pre inaugurals leaving DD back home. And we soon came to the conclusion that we have to return with her. DD gave me her tiger she made on the Liberty (Pets At Sea) and as promised tiger and I went shopping :D.

ImaginOcean is such a cute musical that even the parents will love it. The Adventure Ocean facilities are just WOW! Separate Science Lab, separate crafts room.

There are family festivals on the Boardwalk and don´t forget about the carousel. A cute little minigolf area especially for kids, tiny sunbeds for kids in the H2O Zone and lots of more stuff.

Actually I´m really not sure if you want to go off the ship during port days :D! There´s simply too much to see and to explore.

Hey Celebrat! Long time no chat! Hope all is well! I hope you get to go! But the prices were hard to swallow.. not only that, but a lot of the lesser expensive Family Balcony (if you can call 11K less expensive) rooms.. would not let me book .. needed 5 to book the room, and we are only 4. That was not well received by me. But they know if we want to go.. we will have to pay I guess. I turn 40 that week so we will splurge.. happy birthday to me!

Steamboats- sounds awesome! Do you have any pics?? I am excited becuase it is hard to find something that will make both a 13YO and a 3YO happy...I have no doubt they will both have a blast!

I think I have it figured out. I think I am going to try September 2011. But I think I may try Allure instead of Oasis. Here is my thinking. Allure will be 1 year newer. And the prices are the same as Oasis. (figure that one out...lol) So that's where I think I am heading. Allure in 2011.

Happy 40th! You should splurge!

Our dilemma is that there are SO MANY new ships, and we want to try them all. I am watching the NCL Epic for 10/23 of this year. The kids have a 3 days out of school that week, so I wouldn't feel bad about making them miss a few extra days. Price hasn't quite come down low enough yet though to book. And, there's both the Carnival and Disney Dream. Need to try them. And the Oasis.

Yet, we keep on ending up on Carnival, because we find a neat itinerary. Heading to Panama and Costa Rica on the Miracle next, which is exciting!

We crusied on 2nd Jan; we will let others comment on the ship generally, but wish to share this with you, as it ruined our own holiday, which was otherwise perfect.

We travelled with 2 children from the UK, aged 3 and 5. Both kids went to kids club, we were aware that 3 year old must be fully potty trained. However, this means that the 3 year old will receive NO ASSISTANCE whatsoever with the toilet. So, if the little one gets there a little too late and has an accident, or perhaps does not wipe themselves properly, then they will be issued with a "strike" (terminology that I do not care for personally). 3 strikes and they kick them out of Adventure Ocean. Imagine out horror when our 3 year old did have an accident and later did not wipe himself properly. We spent 3 days under the threat of expulsion. We did complain to the manager, who as a very young lady has little if any experience of 3 year olds, she embarassed us in a corridor (but did apologise for that) - she confirmed that they offer absolutely no assistance, 3 year olds are on their own.

This is the point - she accepted our child was fully potty trained, but claimed the 'no assistance' issue was a USA policy - that is not the case at all, it is a RCI policy. They are entitled to have whatever rules they want on their ships, and I respect that. But we paid nearly $22,000 with air fare, and had it said anywhere that young children are on their own with the risk of expulsion from the childcare then we would simply not have booked. I await RCI's response on their power to issue this rule for the first time when you are on board. I am not sure whether this perfect toilet etiquette exists with 3 year olds???

Parents who need childcare as part of their holiday, in order to enjoy this wnderful ship need to be warned. It is a very expensive ship - full stop. You are therefore entitled to a wonderful holiday experience, regrettably Oasis of the Seas did not deliver it for us.

Awkeough-

I can appreciate your frustration... TRULY. I am glad you made me aware as my 3 YO has had his share of "strikes".. especially when his schedule is thrown off.. like it will be on our cruise.

My guess is that it is a liability issue- not wanting any risk of abuse claims.. as well as a potential health issue with eColi....

I am no expert but that is my guess... not that it will probably make you feel any better....

I did read on another thread that they recently arrested a crew member (forget which line) for child porn.. for that reason alone, I dont think I would ever let a crew member help my child with toileting.. it is uncommon, but it is out there...

Thanks for sharing your experrience with us..sorry you were so disappointed!! :( Goes to show that good communication goes a long way.
