Boo Boo Posted May 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2009 Does anyone know if we will be likely to see the Northern Lights during our cruise (end of July this year)? That would be wonderful... :) Thanks Boo
DaveFr Posted May 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2009 Does anyone know if we will be likely to see the Northern Lights during our cruise (end of July this year)? That would be wonderful... :) Thanks Boo Boo, Unfortunately, from what I've read on the CC Alaska board, your chances of seeing the Northern Lights during your cruise are not very good. As you get closer to your cruising date, take a look at http://www.gedds.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/ for information and forecasts of Northern Lights activity. Hope this helps. Rare RachelG Posted May 30, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2009 Having been in northern Canada and Alaska many summers, I can tell you that your chances of seeing the Northern lights then are basically about 0%. Northern lights are seen in winter. In summer, it hardly even gets dark, let alone dark enough to see the northern lights.

To have a chance to see the Borealis you need to go in September and even that is iffy.
Boo Boo Posted May 30, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted May 30, 2009 Ah, thank you very much Dave, Rachel and Rolland. That makes complete sense - will have to go another time of year to see that then. Thanks again :) Boo
