lovetexas Posted December 13, 2009 #104 Share Posted December 13, 2009 That is interesting, and kinda exciting. Is there a website where I can view this cruise ship? The only info I could gather was for a huge ship with the same name, that sunk in 1945 (with a great loss of life). I don't know about that name?? ssb Posted December 16, 2009 #111 Share Posted December 16, 2009 Did they go anywhere else instead? The Port of Galveston was closed on Monday due to heavy fog. Yes. Im sure they tried to go elsewhere, but not sure if they succeeded, because the coastlines of Texas, Louisanna, Alabama, and Florida were all affected.... and intermitently blanketed with fog causing problems in alot of ports of the Gulf. This was a result of two weather systems. One from northern Pacific cold air front system out of far northwest ..... combining with warmer southern Pacific warm system being pulled over across Mexico to entire Gulf Coast and combining with moisture of Gulf to cause the fog. Rare dna1990 Posted December 21, 2009 #112 Share Posted December 21, 2009 I am in favor of market bearing salaries...but think Galveston (and Houston) ports should be doing all they can to lure more ships and business. CGBCruiser Posted February 22, 2010 #122 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Just drove Harborside and both ships still docked. Galveston is socked in with fog. It's foggy here too! Been gone this weekend to Palacios and it's been foggy on Matagorda Bay all weekend...I hate it when it's yucky outside like this.
CGBCruiser Posted February 22, 2010 #123 Share Posted February 22, 2010 I saw on the RCCL website that VOS and Conquest were both able to leave in the middle of the night. Looks like around 2:30 a.m. I'm so glad they were able to get out of there. Great news for those folks onboard when they woke up this morning! :)
lovetexas Posted February 22, 2010 #124 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Funny to see someone mention Palacios. We have some properties there- 2 of which are for sale- and rented out... we love that area. Or my mom and I do. My dh thinks there is not enough to do. Makes me think I am out of shrimp, and need to go check those properties.
