Laundry service

We are going to be leaving next week for a two week Baltic cruise on the Constellation. When we were on the Century last September, they offered a "fill the bag" laundry special for $20 (I think) about midway through that cruise. Will they have that on the Connie? What have others done about laundry on long cruises? I know the individual piece prices are very expensive.

Just spent 29 days on the Constellation. They offered the "fill the bag" special once each leg, on the next-to-last day. It is now $29.

When we last cruised on the Constellation, the "fill the bag" laundry special was also offered at the end of the cruise, and was marketed as "take clean clothes back home and avoid the hassle of doing laundry when you get home".

Was it $29? And approximately what size bag? I am traveling with 3 teenagers...so amount of clothing to be laundered will probably be huge....

I wonder what planet the Celebrity marketeers are from? I can't imagine spending close to 30 bucks just to avoid doing laundry when you get home. We have a routine when we get back from a vacation, we have to carry our bags through our laundry room when we walk in from the garage, so we open them and heave our dirty laundry on top of the machines, usually to be washed the next day. And at less than a buck per load at home, that saves a lot of cash I could spend on more important things, like our last drinks aboard ship!

Cheers,

I completely agree with you...but we are extending our vacation for an additional 10 days in Sicily following the cruise, and I really don't want to have to show up to meet family with dirty laundry....(3 teenagers amount worth)

If they do have a bag of laundry special it will not include any pressing - clothes come back neatly folded and in a paper bag which is fine for underwear and t-shirts but not for pants and button up shirts. However, if you pay the per piece rate listed on the form then your pants and shirts, and other appropriate items, will come back pressed and on hangers. We stuffed a cloth bag crammed full, which is much more than you'd fit in a paper laundry bag used on the specials, and I think our total bill at the piece rate for a whole bunch of laundry was around $50 - might have been after a 20% captains club coupon. Yes it would have been nice to have saved another $20 or $30 but it isn't a big deal in the scheme of a couple week cruise.

No kidding! That would not even hold a single pair of pants. In terms of t-shirts,undergarments, etc....about how many pcs of clothing would you think it would hold?

Plenty! Roll your items one by one when placing in the bag because it will allow you to fit more. Also, don't be shy in asking your TA for the "Exceptional Savings" Coupon booklet. Should you be provided with 2 booklets, use one laundry coupon midway cruise and the other towards the end.

We did the above and it really help us tremendously!

Have Fun,

OH OH OH! I am SO jealous! We LOVE Sicily! Our daughter and SIL and grandchildren lived there for about 5-51/2 years. Their wish was that the Navy would kind of lose track of them and leave them there forever. Our granddaughter was born there (Mary Elise) in December 1996, in Catania. She has the most beautiful, hand calligraphed birth certificate you have ever seen. Her Mom had it framed and it hangs on her bedroom wall.

We loved Taormina, and Caltigerone (this is a town where there are dozens and dozens of small shops where all of the artists make and sell their ceramics!). Taormina is another town with lots of shops where they sell beautiful ceramics, but their are not many artists there, but great restaurants. Be sure to buy a Rooster Pitcher, they are good luck in your home! We also loved Patti, Caleca Pottery China is made there (you can look them up on the Internet before you go) we choose a pattern and in 3 trips bought a complete set with tons of extra pieces - like fish plates and bake ware and lots of different bowls and we cherish it. Everyday when we eat off of it we remember the wonderful time we had in Sicily. It is, without a doubt, THE most wonderful place we have ever been. The country and the people and the sights were SO WONDERFUL.

I hope you love it half as much as we did.

What booklet are you referring to? On our last cruise, as Elite Captain's Club Members, we no longer received a booklet with savings. To be environmental councious, we were left a single sheet of paper, and there was no laundry coupon included. Celebrity said (!?) that there had no little interest in the laundry coupon. From what I hear, they are still boasting about the diminished benefits. Wish they would just put in laundries and you have on the Cunard Ships. At least they are free, and you can do your wash when you want. Also a grat place to pick up the ships news.

By rolling and cramming carefully, I got a LOT in the bag--we went through our laundry and decided what we HAD to have, and just sent that. Underwear, socks, shirts, pants--it all came back beautifully done. I want to say I counted 27 pieces but I can't swear to that.

On our last cruise, we sent out the necessities about 1/2 way through, didn't wait for the bag. We had three days pre and post so over three weeks all together--much easier to spend a few bucks on laundry than paying (and lugging) overweight baggage!

Next time I will bring two nighties--never thought of that before but I REALLY would have liked to have had a spare! An extra weighs nothing and takes up so little space. . .

I totally agree you can get a lot in that small bag by rolling carefully. My DH, who never does laundry at home, turned out to be a master at bag stuffing. Who knew ?

I'd love to know where to get the laundry coupons. The only coupon books we've gotten in the past have been fairly useless. I will check with our TA.

I had my TA call Celebrity about these coupon books and we were told that they would be in our stateroom when we board? They didn't seem to know what we were talking about initially. Does anyone know if they are indeed in your stateroom upon arrival??

To all Concern: The Coupon Savings Booklet was sent to me via mail by our TA. In time past, sometimes they are in your cabin. We received 2. There are numerous coupons for various items (laundry, wine, bingo, casino and etc.) within the booklet. It is approx. 3 x 4 in size.

I'm not sure what criteria is used in the distribution of them, but it is a valuable item to have to save monies.
