Randus62 Posted June 26, 2009 #26 Share Posted June 26, 2009 If you are worried about a rogue wave, I find it hard to believe you would leave your house..... Too many ifs out there to leave your cocoon..... Are you afraid to sleep in your bed knowing the monster lives under it? Now that is silly! I happen to know the monsters are under my bed. Harleycat Posted June 26, 2009 #28 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Does the fact that a rough wave hit the Dawn several years ago freak you out? In other words, it it a doomed or something like that ship? Does it bother you about going on this ship? I know it sounds silly but I thought I would ask. Absolutely not! We were in an AC suite on the Dawn several months after it happened and it didn't bother us at all. The forward cabins took some damage with that wave and we didn't notice a thing. no port @ dfw Posted June 26, 2009 #29 Share Posted June 26, 2009 We have sailed on the Dawn since the incident and are booked to sail on her again. If you read the NTSB official report on the incident it will make you feel very safe on an NCL vessel. You will see what happened, how well the crew and captain responded and all the extra efforts taken both before the wave and after to make sure the passengers were safe. It makes for some very interesting reading. For comparison, you should read the official report about the Crown Princess incident in 2006 and the actions of that captain and crew. Here is the link to the Dawn report www.ntsb.gov/publictn/2005/MAB0503.pdf and here is the link to the Crown Princess report www.ntsb.gov/publictn/2008/MAR0801.pdf Having been involved in public safety and fire/rescue for over 30 years I find these types of reports very interesting and informative. I actually read the Dawn report before ever taking our first cruise (a transatlantic journey). It reassured us of the safety of these large ships rather than caused us concern. BarbCT605 Posted June 26, 2009 #30 Share Posted June 26, 2009 We were on board for the Rogue Wave and have sailed the Dawn 6 times since. Does that answer your question? She is the best. This one says it all. Thanks for posting, Eileen.:)

EileenN Posted June 26, 2009 #33 Share Posted June 26, 2009 We were on deck 11 the day of the Rogue Wave and had a rough night before with large waves and rocking. I was in the casino at 1 am when the ship started to rock sideways. That cleaned off the poker tables and buffet all over the floor. The bar stools toppled and only a few brave souls were still at the slots. Wouldn't you know I hit a jackpot at that time and had to make my way across to the cage to cash in with two buckets (yes, coins were still used). Upstairs in our room, my DD and DH were thrown from the bed to the floor. Rolled is more like it. I made my way in a very shakey elevator to deck 11 and checked on everyone and went to bed. The rogue wave hit about 6 AM and woke us for a minute. We rolled over and went back to sleep until 8 AM. The captain and crew were wondeful about keeping us informed and had good control of the situation. I gave two depositions for NCL in two separate law suits and still have all the confidence in them. We will be on the November 1st 2 week repo cruise and look forward to it.
Kancruze Posted June 26, 2009 #34 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Wow! That must have been a little scarey but NCL has good ships and crew; thank goodness nothing bad really happened. However, Mother Nature is not one to be fooled with as you can see from the sinking of the Oceanos cruiseship. http://www.oceanossinking.com Quite interesting to see and very informative. How about the boat sinking AFTER the cruise, while you're waiting to disembark. That way, you got the whole cruise in! :D And slightly off topic here, but Why is it EVERY time I go on a ship, some time during the cruise, sometimes twice or three times, I hear the theme song from the Titanic?! What's next, The Posidien Adventure in the Movie Theatre?! They get sued for somethng they have no control over yet they probably did everything humanly possible to to keep the ship upright so not to bring catostraphic harm to everyone on board. So you get a few bumps, bruises or a broken arm. Are you still alive? Congrats on the jackpot!:)
