FinelyCruising Posted July 17, 2009 #401 Share Posted July 17, 2009 Another New Jerseyan - where are you from? I am in Central/South Jersey. Bergen County, but I am up and down the state all week long for work. Heading for Cape May in August for some R&R. Can't wait.:)
mlmagic Posted July 17, 2009 #402 Share Posted July 17, 2009 My husband and I overdressed - and we loved it! We saw people wear a wide range of clothes though so you'd be comfortable no matter what you choose. Our tablemates dressed formally also and I would have felt bad wearing casual clothes. I wore gowns and he wore a tux for every formal night. He didn't see me until I was ready for the evening and I loved seeing his face when he first saw me. It was romantic and wonderful and we fell in love all over again. AAHHHHHH...;) That is so sweet, love hearing that. That is what a special vacation should be all about! npsh Posted July 17, 2009 #403 Share Posted July 17, 2009 To answer Tinkerbell1963 a 4 hr(formal) dining portion of the total hours on a 14 day cruise equates to about 1.2% of the total hrs spent on the cruise. In my case, of the 1.2% allotment, I bet less that 10% of the guests in the dining room will care/comment on my lack of formal attire. That's pretty slimm odds and yes, I certainly won't sweat the small stuff. ;)
Morris4me Posted July 17, 2009 #404 Share Posted July 17, 2009 I think he will be fine in a sport coat and dress pants. We saw many men dressed this way (including my hubby) on our HAL cruise. However, I would sneak a tie into the suitcase and then coax him to wear it once you're onboard. He might just change his mind when he sees other men with ties. Come on people, read the thread before you post. The OP came back and said But, guess what? Dh has asked me to check into renting a tux!!! Why? B/c he has realized that hauling around a sports coat etc will be a nuisance. Maybe letting the cruiseline take care of it will be easier. (Duh. See posting above.) Stay tuned. Maybe he'll be one of those handsome tux-wearing guys, and all the other women will be looking at me with envy in their green eyes. The original question they asked is completely moot now. pom Posted July 17, 2009 #410 Share Posted July 17, 2009 You can use my wife's threat, which is "if you ever wanna get lucky again..." That works on me, although she doesn't have to make me where a suit. For meals like that, I'd wear a suit every night! Hahahahaha, and I thought I only said that to my husband!
