We just booked three cabins mid-ship on Sunrise deck #s, 7177,7179 & 7181 are these cabin obstructed by the X? Has anyone had any of these cabins? Also does Solstice have laundry facilities where you can do it yourself?

I've been on Solstice but only way forward on 6th level, so I don't know about the X on the 7th deck. But I can tell you that there is no self-service laundry on Solstice. You will get a 'special' discount bag a day or so before end of cruise. Stuff it full for about $20-25. I usually do this as I like to pack clean clothes to bring home -- they pack smaller than used ones.

You will love the Solstice - I went in March and will be on again in November.

Hi,

We have staterooms 7231+7235 for the sailing which leaves on the 7th August. Both will be partially affected by the X on the balcony glass.

I'll let you know what we thought once we get back. For all that I think the fact that our view will not be obstructed by the lifeboats below will more than compensate for the fact that the X is there. Most of the time when I look out at the horizon I am stood up against the railing of the balcony... of which the X will play no part.

None of these cabins will have the X on the glass. Only some of the cabins on the midships hump, 7221-7239 & 7266-7284 on your deck, have the X markings.

On our Feb 2010 Carib. cruise our cabin on deck 9 will have part of the X on it, but I am hoping it won't spoil our view.

What do you mean about the "X" markings? I just booked Cabin 7184, Sunrise Deck, on the Solstice. Are you referring to something being on the balcony wall and/or on the door into the cabin? If so, is the view obstructed in anyway?

I just booked Cabin 7184, Sunrise Deck, on the Solstice.

Are you sure that's the correct stateroom number. According to the deck plans for Sunrise 7184 is an inside!

The X to which folk are referring is, I believe, a type of film which has been applied to the balcony glass of the cabins which make up the hump on the side of the ship. From a distance anyone looking back at the ship will see the letter X reflected back at them.

Here are photos (taken by Aquahound) which have been posted on other threads discussing the X obstruction.

I'm not sure, but if your stateroom is 7284 (and not 7184) as stated then I don't "think" you will be affected at all.

Here is a listing of cabins affected by the X on the side of Solstice. I can't find the link to the pdf doc. We had originally booked 7178, I believe it was and after reading comments and seeing pictures, we booked a different cabin on deck 8. I've read that some people didn't have a problem with the obstruction but I was glad I changed my cabin.

Does anybody know if the hump balconies on the new Equinox also have that X film? From the photo it looks like they may have avoided it .

I think I saw a thread a day or two ago that said that Equinox did not have the "X" covering the balconies. Sure hope it stays that way.

:) The photos of the balcony on the Hump are very helpful --- thank you, so much --- seems the coating has a mirror-effect back to the cabin. No

real issue at all. However, I am happy that our balcony glass is just "partially covered". To the post just before me --- I think the "X" design is

on both sides of the Solstice. ;)

Other odd nos. of the cabins of the Solstice such as

6227 which will be our cabin. I notice this part of the ship juts out so I am wondering.

:) As far as I can determine --- your balcony glass should be completely clear. Great cabin location by the way --- as you are on Deck 6 --- you may see the lifeboats as you look "down" but out to the horizon will be fine.

Is the X only on the starboard side?

After our 4/2010 sailing, I attempted to figure out where the "X" was, as others have done. Here is my list:

For decks 6 through 9:

Here is every cabin on the hump for the Solstice::

Cabins with full “X” : 6220, 6230, 6221, 6231, 7272, 7278, 7227, 7233, 8240, 8242, 8267, 8269, 9280, 9282, 9225, 9227

Cabins with partial “X” : 6218, 6222, 6228, 6232, 6219, 6223, 6229, 6233, 7270, 7274, 7276, 7280, , 7225, 7229, 7231, 7235, 8238, 8244, 8265, 8271, 9278, 9284, 9223, 9229

Cabins with No “X” : 6216, 6224, 6226, 6234, 6217, 6225, 6227, 6235, 7266, 7268, 7282, 7284, 7221, 7223, 7237, 7239, 8232, 8234, 8236, 8246, 8248, 8250, 8259, 8261, 8263, 8273, 8275, 8277, 9272, 9274, 9276, 9286, 9288, 9290, 9217, 9219, 9221, 9231, 9233, 9235

Here is a link to my trip report from that cruise, which contains a lengthy discussion on the "X" and some more photos of 8238. If I were to do it all over again, I would try to get a "no obstruction" balcony.

We just returned from Celebrity Solstice (room 9284) and the photo shown here is a bit misleading. Yes, the stripe is exactly as shown in the above photo, but it's semi-transparent (not mirror-like as shown above). So it appears that they've changed the material. That means you can see the ocean through the material much like looking through a pair of sunglasses. I have a photo which shows this, I'll upload it tonight.

Thanks So much for compiling this list. We are in 7284 in October 2017.
