Excess on board credit refund?

Recommended Posts

We have $400 OBC for an upcoming cruise. Plus we have free gratuities. We try to do CC shore excursions and are not big drinkers so we don't spend much on HAL.

Does Hal give you a refund if you don't use it all? If not, can you forward it to a future cruise? For all I know we may just spend it all anyway.

Thanks!

Depends on where the OBC came from. If from HAL, like stockholders OBC, or FCD OBC, it will not be refunded. Non-HAL OBC will be refunded.

As commonly discussed here, non-refundable OBC will be applied first.

Don't forget you have hotel service charge, which will be a drain on OBC. There are plenty of spending opportunities. Pinnacle or other extra charge restaurants, for example.

if you purchase a future cruise deposit once on board, the purchase will go through your credit card, NOT shipboard account. So your unused OBC cannot be applied to that purchase. Same applies if you want to put a deposit on a future cruise, it does NOT involve or go through shipboard account.

Go to a $1 machine in the casino. Open a Casino account and transfer perhaps $500 to Casino account. Spin $1 play for good measure then cash out at the "cage" at a later date.

I open my Casino account on the day before Disembarkation Day, after reviewing my statement, for an amount that is higher than my remaining OBC credit . That Casino account amount is immediately posted to your stateroom account as a deduction. My choice for a few slot machine pulls is the penny machines before going to the Casino Cashier to cash out. I leave the ship with cash in my wallet and a credit card bill for just a few dollars.

Thanks to CC member Jtl13, this has recouped every dollar of my excess OBC for the past nine HAL cruises.
