Increase in drinks tax

I know Princess have increased their daily gratuities but have they increased the drinks service tax from 15% to 18%.

There is no tax on drinks. There is a 15% gratuity on the purchase of all beverages.

Automatic gratuity on beverages is 15%

Automatic gratuity on spa services is 18%.

There might be a port tax levied while in some ports.

Louisiana state tax was added to our purchases on RCL sailing from New Orleans until clearing the Mississippi River at about midnight.

If I recall correctly, Florida also has a tax levied but on Princess they didn't process purchases until in international waters resulting in no added taxes.

True--some cruise lines process the drinks when they are ordered. Others write a manual ticket and enter it into the system later so that the tax is not charged.

I'm confused. The gratuities seem to be the same as when I signed up for my cruise. Has there been an announcement that they will be going up.

No change since earlier this year...$13.95 for minisuites & suites, $12.95 for everyone else.

State sales tax was charged on our FL and TX departures while the ship was inside the state waters (i.e. port).

Same when sailing out of NYC. When we purchased our drink, we noticed the tax on the bill along with the gratuity

Still 15% grats charge but the menu prices have increased a bit, on some drinks, over the last year, which of course automatically means a slightly higher grats charge.

Some lines (NCL comes to mind) increased the drinks prices AND the grats to 18% so buyers got hit twice.
