bonzijam Posted March 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Does anyone know if there are whales to be seen in the Cabo area now? Or have they gone to the cooler waters as they did in Puerto Vallarta? We have a tour planned in Cabo and we really could put our excursion money to better use if there are no sightings. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. Whales around Cabo start moving north to Alaska in March. Mothers and babies are the first to move north followed by the males. Could be reversed males then mothers and babies. Our Panama cruise stop in Cabo (May) doesn't have any whale watches tours available.
CruiserBruce Posted March 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2016 As mentioned, the whales start leaving in March. During the whale season, whales are at both Cabo and PV. In my experience, more plentiful at Cabo. Don't think the water is cooler at PV. Think it's the other way around.

mexico8 Posted March 14, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2016 We have been in Puerto Vallarta since mid-December and have seen one whale in the Bay. Very unusual.
LidoLiz Posted March 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2016 Just off a 10-day cruise on Ruby Princess. We were lucky to have two whales, possibly a whale with her calf, swim around the ship while we were anchored at Cabo. The whale watching boats were trailing them, but didn't interfere with their progress. Everybody on board was joking that they could cancel their whale watching excursions because they had seen two up close from the Lido deck! On the way back from PV, along the Baja coast, we came very close to another whale that surfaced just off the starboard bow. We were very lucky! But this one was definitely heading north ...and we were out of sight of land, so I'm sure it had started its seasonal commute.
MaiTaiMary Posted April 7, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2016 We are sailing to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta April 16th. I know it's late in the season, but we are still hoping we can see a whale.
mikeyd Posted April 21, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 21, 2016 We did the Mexican Rivera last week. The closest we came to seeing whales were some plumes of exhaled water they make about 1/2 mile from the ship while in Cabo. I didn't hear of any other sightings. We are doing a family/friends sailing on the Ruby (1st Princess) in Nov. Very excited to try Princess and would appreciate any hints for the ship (we have balconies aloha deck) Been to the Mexican ports several times now and have our private tours set in PV and Maz but looking for possible day sail option in Cabo. Any comments are welcome
