Auckland disembarking/flight time question

We are taking a Pacific Islands cruise (HAL Maasdam) ending in Auckland on tuesday dec.19. 2017. The ship is supposed to dock at 8 in the morning. How long does customs/immigration and transport to the airport usually take? What would be the earliest time we should book a plane out of AKL?

I would recommend that you not book sooner than the time recommended by HAL, in case docking is delayed (for insurance purposes). Auckland Airport recommends that you arrive at the airport three hours before departure time.

Someone with recent experience will be able to comment on the amount of time customs/immigration usually takes and transport to the airport.

Most of the flights I have been looking at, starts off at 13:30 - 15:00.

I think we will play it safe though, and get a hotel room for one night.

If Norway and N.Z./Aus/Pacific Isl. had not been so extremely far apart, we would have gone there more often. Apart from home, it's our favourite part of the world...:)

Customs/Immigration will be held during a sea day after the last port of call.(Dravuni Island).

You will receive a letter and "Arrival" card in your stateroom stating the venue and time to attend with your passport and completed arrival card for your meeting with the officials.

Be sure to depart for the airport very early. On our last trip our taxi was stuck in absolutely horrendous traffic. Took almost 2 hours to get from the Rydges World Square (CBD) to the international terminal. Next trip we are limiting our luggage and using the train.

That hotel is very close to a train station from where it's around a 20 minute trip to the airport.
