It might not show up for a day or two, but it will cancel out the previous charges up to the amount of the OBC.

Thanks for your response. So the same account is charged for reservations/excursions that the on-board credit is applied to? Sorry just for clarification.. for instance, account could be -100 then once on board credit applied +300? Like if you have a credit card linked to your cruise account it is not charged if you don't have on board credit?

The actual charge to your credit card is not made until the end of the cruise.

However there may be holds placed on the account (eventually dropped) to be sure your credit card has enough available credit to cover charges so far.

It can take a couple of days. Always a good plan to bring a print copy of invoice showing OBC in case it doesn;t show up as expected. Also good to check that credit card is 'clear' to take anticipated purchases around cruise time since as posted above, there may be a hold on funds to cover any on board expenses

Totally agree on taking 'evidence' of OBC with you...invoice, email...They always pay up so don't worry but it does make everyone's life easier, however, if you can show them the amount you should receive.

Your on board account is just like a check book register, 2 columns, deposits, i.e.: OBC, and debits, i.e.: what you buy. The debits subtract from the credits thru the week, and if there is a negative at the end of the cruise, that amount is paid with the credit card on file. Your cc is not charged daily, only at the end of the cruise.

If you book excursions prior to boarding, they will charge your credit card right away. The onboard credit will only go towards charges that you make after boarding.

Wondering how soon after boarding the ship you will be able to access your on board credit and use it for booking/reservations?

You can start using your OBC the minute you step on board. It just might not show up on your account for a few days to offset your charges.

I heard some rumors that they are working on letting you use your onboard credit prior to the cruise for upgrades to drink package, spa, internet and booking ship excursions.

Hope it's true!
