rkacruiser Posted August 22, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 22, 2017 A funny story from the Viking Passage this year. The cruise director announced the wrong captain for the welcome aboard toast. Captain Matebore never let him forget it. When it came time for the CD to introduce the captain at the Mariner's reception, Captain Matebore held up his name on a Que card so the CD wouldn't fumble the introduction again. Another example of the Captain's sense of humor: 2016 VOV, returning to Boston: Our Cruise Director learned that he had received a promotion to a position in Seattle. At the Mariner's Reception, after the Medallions had been awarded, the Captain asked the Yum Yum-type man (sorry that I really don't know the gentleman's official title) to come forward with another "Medallion". After some complimentary comments regarding our CD and congratulating him on his promotion, Captain Mateboer presented him with his own special "Mariner Medallion". It was a large round wood medallion on which had been engraved the same likeness of the HAL vessels on the other medallions suspended by a very long rope. Captain Mateboer, with great ceremony, placed this special medallion around the neck of our CD. Laughter and applause filled the room! Captain Mateboer will be missed! rkacruiser Posted August 22, 2017 #28 Share Posted August 22, 2017 His official title is "Dining Room Greeter" Thank you, Copper10-8. I am still learning. What other jobs does the gentlemen do when they are not in the Dining Room Greeter role?
Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 22, 2017 Author #29 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Thank you, Copper10-8. I am still learning. What other jobs does the gentlemen do when they are not in the Dining Room Greeter role? You're more than welcome and they - there are usually two on board - work other jobs in the Food Service Dept. throughout the day. You will also see them during the Mariner reception, especially when medals are handed out
