Shore Excursions

We are in Alaska this summer on the MS Amsterdam and have booked two excursions with outside companies, one on a helicopter and one on a small plane. If the conditions are poor, do HAL accept shore excursion bookings on the day of the excursion?

We have occasionally gotten same day tickets, at the bus departure point itself when we had last minute changes in our original plans. Don't count on it, nor will you get your first choice option, but it can be an option depending on the remaining capacity they still have available.

There will be shore excursion people located in the departure areas that can help you and they were able to take our charges at that time. This may be the exception and not the rule, so it will be good to hear from others as well. They are interested in selling tickets if there is still space, so you have that working for you.

If there's last minute room on a HAL tour, they are thrilled to sell another ticket. The problem is finding room on a tour you are interested in.

In addition to HAL tours, most Alaska ports have people hanging around the gangway area selling tours, so you should not be left without something to do.

Because you are still in America there is no problem with currency, language, or (generally) insurance considerations.

Good luck getting in your flights, though, as there is nothing to compare! Best Alaska advice I ever had was to go flightseeing. I didn't take that advice on my first cruise there, but have on later cruises. There is nothing like it.

Have a great time in The Great Land.
