BigGreenFan Posted November 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2016 My wife is wondering how dressed up people get for dinner on the Explorer to Antarctica? Nice jeans and a sweater or blouse? Or dressier than that? Thanks!
Marylebone37 Posted November 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2016 Anything goes, really. Think super casual and comfortable expedition wear. Some (most?) folks don't even shower and re-dress for dinner, particularly if their excursions are running late.

Rare Turtles06 Posted November 24, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2016 Not dressy, not even "smart casual." Just comfortable. It's an expedition. :) In case it may be of interest or help to you, my comprehensive journal (with plenty of photos) of our trip to Antarctica on the Explorer several years ago is here: https://antarcticjourney.wordpress.com/ Have an awesome time! Bizmark'sMom Posted January 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2017 Decent looking jeans and a sweater are about right. After you've been on the prow in your pajamas with everybody else because there's something interesting to look at, proper dress becomes relative.

I just ran across this thread today and read your journal. It is so well written and the pictures are all beautiful and some are absolutely spectacular. Antarctica has always been on my bucket list, but I am afraid I am no longer up to it physically. Your journal and pictures were the next best thing to being there myself. Thanks for the great effort you put into it.
Shawnino Posted May 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 18, 2017 I just ran across this thread today and read your journal. Your journal and pictures were the next best thing to being there myself. Thanks for the great effort you put into it. I don't mean to be presumptuous but... If you've got the money, have a re-think about not being up to it physically. I don't know your situation. I do know mine. I didn't walk well at all (bad reaction to a vaccine at eight months old... left side of body pretty wrecked) and I got on shore every time. No hikes for me, but no problem getting on, walking around a little. Another operator, Hurtigruten, has an even better way to load the zodiacs... no stairs. They've gotten people onshore in wheelchairs.
love_the_sea Posted May 19, 2017 #10 Share Posted May 19, 2017 Thanks, Shawnino. I am now looking at the Fram. I got basically the same advice when I posted a query on the Antarctica Ports of Call sub-forum. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement. 2ws Posted August 12, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 12, 2017 The crew and guides wear shorts and t shirts during the day recap. No dress up needed. Sent from my iPad using Forums
