  1. The ones that do it well, it is a pretty good source of income to cruise a lot and report back on it on you tube and other social media. There are worse jobs in life than that. Well I guess even the ones that don't do it well, but get clicks get to cruise a lot more than I do too.
  2. We saw the same on our Partial PC transit on the Edge. We put a min bid in on the Infinite veranda and lost, but they were higher than we have seen in the past. This cruise Basically ended up as a sellout, so that is likely why the prices were so high. Much different than a year ago when we upgraded to an oceanview on the Connie for a really small bid to then get upgraded to a veranda at the port.
  3. The issue I think I have with all this is the term influencer. The people I mentioned after the Celebrity cruises search above, provide helpful and informative content that helps the cruising public make better decisions and maybe learn how to pack better. Yes they do it for clicks and to make some money, but at the same time they provide a service. What I think of as influencers are the people trying to continually try and get the viral videos and the most clicks and likes by posting videos that are wastes of time for me to watch and don't provide any benefit other than maybe making you laugh. Those posters might be more likely to be more obnoxious and to not care how they impact others peoples experiences. Right now I have gone down the every day carry rabbit hole on you tube and there is a ton of helpful information there to help me make smart purchasing decisions along with the cruise videos I watch, so there is a good side to this.
  4. so I see Celebrity, Gary aka tips for travelers, and life well cruised dominate the first page on iPad and two random videos I don’t know. Gary and Life well cruised do fine tasteful videos and one can skip the ones they don’t like. This isn’t like some of the stuff I see in fishing vids that look like the old MTV Jack*** shoes that get lots of likes and views. The ones at the top imo try to provide helpful information. Yes I subscribed to both I listed above. Results may be different on TikTok but I never got the purpose of that app.
  5. From other lines, I know the rough guess on timing, I am just curious if we will get an email or if it will shop up in the app or if we will need to login regularly online to check once we are in that window that it could be assigned.
  6. I have watched some of the videos, including some to prepare for our upcoming HAL cruise, I have yet to see someone onboard filming yet. To your last, that is sad, but if they do it right there is money to be made there. Maybe with a lot of jobs becoming automated, they have the right idea after all, but lets hope not.
  7. I am curious, since this thread has lasted this long, who has seen someone onboard a Celebrity ship specifically, or another line doing a you tube, or other social media style video? I have not yet seen anyone doing what was clearly an informational or a look at me video on a cruise ship. I have of course seen families doing videos. Guessing this is more of a what if vs they are everywhere.
  8. You missed my point lol. The point you bring up, the answer is never going to please everyone. I was just on Instagram and I believe a Celebrity employee had pictures of the crew vs guest volleyball game posted. Some would say that is fine, others would say that the people in the background needed to be blurred out. At this point it is what it is and if you step foot out of your house, you run the risk of being filmed or having your picture taken and posted somewhere.
  9. I have no clue if some of the posters on here are the same, but I do find it amusing that a video of the buffet from a couple that videos their cruises, I do enjoy their videos, really helped get the Celebrity is on going down hill conversations going. So they obviously do have some merit. I will say that I generally don't put a lot of weight into the comments that the person is stating about the cruise line. Heck I don't put a lot into the words of folks on here or I would have canceled my February cruise. What I use the videos for is the visuals of a particular ship to help make my decisions or to scout out spots to hang out on the ship. They can be invaluable for that. Prior to that Feb cruise and the video of the buffet that dropped, we had planned to do a couple of dinners in the buffet for the first time. The video helped us adjust and we enjoyed the MDR dining the whole cruise.
  10. Insides are great for sleeping, as they are very dark. I generally get my best sleep on a cruise. I think it is a combo of the ships movement and the lack of light in the room. We have done veranda and suite cabins, and for us we never used them enough to justify the extra money. We still haven't done an oceanview. We had one that we got on a move up bid on Celebrity, but they ultimately bumped us to a veranda due to low booking and that our assigned room was on the Covid floor. I have coworkers though that love to sit out on a veranda in the morning and at night so it works for them.
  11. The bonus is you do get an actual tub in the bathroom which could be nice. Not worth the extra cash for us, since we got the inside for under 500 for the week down to Boston.
  12. We are sailing on the Zaandam soon from an inside room and all we have found on here and on recent you tube videos are positive info. We have sailed older ships before, so we know what to expect for wear and tear. We also like the older ship designs vs the more modern designs so we are really looking forward to this trip.
  13. So this is funny. I am a cheerleader because the Magic Carpet is one of my top 2 favorite spots on any ship to chill out, proper promenade deck with chairs to sit out on and a full loop around the ship is #1, but at the same time I am a hater because I know I disagree with you;)
  14. There have been some posters on here that have gone out of their way to only thank negative reviews for their honest opinions. I have never seen you do that. I honestly have seen the board mellow out of late. Just before our partial PC cruise it was a bit testy on here.
  15. So define cheerleader. From my last trip review in February on here I was 90% positive with some notes about changes, some we didn't like and some we didn't care about. Our in laws also loved the Connie when they went this year. Does that put us in the cheerleader camp? We did learn that the E class is not our first choice of ships in the X line. I think there is a different viewpoint on the changes retreat vs standard cabin and value. For our choice to cruise without a view from the inside, Celebrity still offers us more than other lines we will sail and at a better value. Our upcoming HAL cruise may change that view, but as of now Celebrity is our first choice.
  16. Disregard, it appears that they treat the partial sea view and fully obstructed as the same. Which is weird to show two options then.
  17. So I was looking at a trip and attempting to see how full it was. There are 4 options listed under oceanview from the cheapest obstructed view to a more expensive unobstructed view. So regardless of which pceanview option I choose it appears that I see the same rooms and it doesn't appear the prices change. What am I missing here?
  18. Collared button up or collared polo style? I have 1 button up packed for a week and 2 polo. One pair of dress pants, but for the less dressy nights, the Zip off kaki pants/shorts I packed, should cover me to give me less chances to spill on the nicer pants.
  19. Some are not on the ship to meet new friends and having other people at there table can ruin a meal for some of us, for sure has ruined meals for me. That is the time I get a choice, at least on Celebrity I do. Public spaces, Disney and all the kids on there taught me how to ignore everything going on around me. So I am very tolerant there, maybe too much in some cases. Also how often is this really taking place? I can’t believe it is on every cruise. I have 5 or 6 I subscribe to including one who used to work on ships.
  20. No we don't but some people as I witnessed recently and over the years have different tolerance levels. Also if they came in and say walked through say the solarium and were in there for a small amount of time talking excitedly about the area, no big deal. If they lingered for an hour they will get chased out. I haven't witnessed this yet, or if I did they handled it like the person that posted on this thread does, discreetly. I totally agree at a with Writtenonyourheart, shows there should be zero tolerance for people chatting or just being out of line.
  21. I don't think you can do anything on a cruise ship without disturbing others. My wife and I chatting about our day and playing cribbage while sitting on the loungers in the solarium I am sure disturbs some. On my last cruise I saw someone confront some folks in the hot tub who were talking loudly, it turned out due to hearing issues, because either their topic of conversation or the loudness of it bothered that persons reading. I sat in the same area and had 100% tuned them out. I see it as we are on a cruise ship with lots of public spaces, and I am going to have to tune certain things out. If I wanted an uninterrupted trip I would have to go for the private yacht experience.
  22. Now its not an issue to spend it with the gratuities. I grew up in the beer business, so I hate paying super inflated prices for drinks lol. So when we sail without a drink package, which is 16 of our 18 cruises, we rarely drink. Some lines had deals where you buy a card and get 1 to 2 free drinks and we might buy that. After our first HAL cruise I will do a review if everyone likes them. We are thrifty cruisers though:)
  23. This is good to know, as we really like being able to do that on Celebrity. I guess the thing working in our favor for our HAL cruise is that we booked so late most of the excursions we wanted are sold out, so we are hoping to book onboard and it was only 100$ obc anyways. If it was more than that we would be challenged to spend it once onboard.
  24. Are the tote bags for return cruisers only? Being a new to HAL cruiser we are trying to figure out what to pack.
  25. I have watched a lot of you tube videos from younger to middle aged TAs talking about the different ships. They have been hugely helpful in our research, between the onboard stuff and excursion stuff. I haven't seen any videos of people doing crazy things for attention, but I guess they are probably out there. For our upcoming Canada/New England cruise on HAL, you tube has really bailed us out for planning our stops out and figuring out a new cruise line. I also subscribe to multiple as well.
