  1. It’s a nice getaway from Los Angeles. We stayed at the Pavilion Hotel which is steps away from the pier . No cars allowed except for a trolley and I see a minibus in your photo. The other town of Two Harbors is smaller.
  2. I vaguely remember doing that trip up Jungfrau . The cog railway tunneled into the glacier with stops along the way where we got out to view some ice sculptures. The view at the top was expansive although all white. It was decades ago .
  3. That would be hilarious except my husband had a humongous calcium pill stuck in his throat this week . Coughing and coughing didn’t bring it up so I drove him to the ER or what I now call the waiting room . They wouldn’t even give him some water . We left after 1 1/2 hours . I know they triage the patients but still .
  4. You do what you gotta do if you want it badly enough. My friend rode Amtrak from San Diego to NYC round trip . She spent 12 days riding the rails . In NYC she took the subway to get around . Why didn’t she fly ? She was walking to a restaurant to celebrate her birthday and when she stepped off the curb her shoe caught the uneven pavement and she fell flat on her face . She broke both wrists and suffered a stroke when her head hit the ground. Can’t fly ! Her wrists have healed however she has suffered another stroke and she has recovered from that too.
  5. Woe , that’s a very dangerous area . I found myself on 47th and just had to go into one of those diamond jewelry stores and came out in possession of a solitaire emerald cut diamond ring .
  6. Beautiful photos and a very good looking couple. Yes , we’ve been to Interlaken as well as Zurich , Geneva , Bern and Basel . I can almost hear the cowbells.
  7. Best wishes to the newly married couple. You pulled off that father daughter dance magnificently . Harry , as kids are known to ask : “ Are we there , yet ? “ I don’t want your review to end .
  8. We last cruised on Cunard in 2019 and it was a classy ocean liner with standards of dress and cerebral entertainment . I’ve mentioned before when we lived in Valencia , CA the US offices of Cunard and Princess were 3 miles from my home . I’ll be watching the US Open tennis championships from Queens today. Have you been when you were healthy ? I’m amazed that some matches ended at 1:30 AM . Why so late ? Djokovic is sure to win .
  9. The ship we are boarding in late September is broken. It’s docked I think in Alaska waiting for a part and some European workers to install the azopod. Somebody posted they are going on our cruise even if they have to push the ship. I’m not worried.
  10. @harryfat1 Did you go to the library and card room ? It’s a nice place to sit and people watch but the shelves are needing books.
  11. @bobmacliberty Best wishes to your daughter and congratulations to your new son-in-law . I’m sure everything was perfect.
  12. My TA prints the final documents, luggage tags + holders and hands them to me in a wallet with a logo on it , of course. There’s a thread on cc on saving money . It was started in 2008 (?) and there’s one comment about a person being so frugal that she wouldn’t buy a stapler to affix her luggage tags to her bags . She taped them and it backfired.
  13. I’m glad you did give us a mini-analysis of the RCI financial report. Now , I’m curious as to where they do their food shopping . I bought “ The Idiot’s Guide to Behavioral Economics “ thinking it would provide info on how customers are lured into buying stuff and more stuff. The joke is on me because it’s more scholarly than I thought . No quick hacks there !
  14. Or , take the Catalina Express in Long Beach to Avalon . Stay at the Pavilion Hotel or splurge and stay at Mt Ida.
  15. I’ve never sailed on Carnival cruise line before so no comment . Haven’t you done that itinerary just recently with your grandkids? Been there , done that! We sailed on the Koningsdam this past January to Hawaii from and return to San Diego . It’s an older crowd and the advantage is no kids . There is a deck devoted to music venues and we especially liked the Lincoln Center quartet. We tried the B B King music hall . It was too loud . We were not interested in anything else as my husband likes classical music and opera . The food was okay . We signed up for Club Orange and had our own dining room and upgraded cabin . We ate at two premium restaurants and the food was delicious and the presentation was very nice. The shows were not up to RCI standards in variety and quality. There were a few that dealt with Hawaii , of course. Major complaint and it’s big : We contracted Covid the last four days and were forced to sit in a room of over 100 people waiting for wheelchair assist because of my husband’s bum knee . I finally went up to the person charge and complained and we were evacuated immediately. I would cruise with HAL , again. And as my geometry teacher told the class in high school many years ago …. Only boring people are bored . We are sailing the Pacific coastal this month and in Astoria we are opting to tour Tillamook and the Oregon coast.
  16. @harryfat1 Yikes ! Thank you for the presentation and admit that you enjoyed it. As a shareholder you probably had the info at the ready. Now , how do they manage to keep their food costs down ? I had found something like this and thought it must be a mistake. Thank you !
  17. Jim , I had previously sent you a couple of these pics . So , I’m assuming you didn’t see them . My friend had a lovely time in Greenland. Their ship was accompanied by an icebreaker the whole time they were there including going through Prins Christian Sund .
  18. Harry , you should put your CPA hat on and look at RCI financial records . How much does Royal spend on food ? Are they spending less per passenger now than in the past ?
