Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. That is so terrible, Stateroom_Sailor! I am so sorry that happened to you and wish you only the best for the remainder of your vacation and travel plans. So sad.
  2. I know I'm not supposed to reply if I haven't done the excursion myself, but my cousin had highly recommended that tour to us when we went to AK in July 2021. Unfortunately due to the circumstances that led into that cruise season, the excursion wasn't running. I was bummed, but plan to do it the next time I go back. She liked it so much that on her next trip back, she booked it again and took her elderly father (a hard sell) and mother and they thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I hope you have a great cruise!
  3. Following along and loving your writing style! Thanks for all the info! Enjoy the rest of your delightfully long cruise!
  4. 100% recommend. I had read so many great reviews for this on CC, so when our group of 8 was looking at excursions, I said we needed to do this. Even though at least half the group was feeling so/so about it beforehand, everyone agreed it was the best thing we did, and thanked me for suggesting it. Have a great cruise!
  5. We too had excursions booked in Juneau and were bummed that we didn't get to try the crab at Tracy's, which was on my AK trip bucket list. We were still pining for it so on our way back to the ship in Skagway, we passed by The Fish Company and detoured in for some crab legs, which were delicious! So just in case the timing doesn't work out for you at Tracy's, check into some restaurants in other ports as a back-up plan. Might not be the same experience, but I'm sure it will be tasty. Enjoy your cruise!
  6. You will see them all around - just look for the 'golf balls' in the trees. Definitely bring binoculars with you, especially on board. We got lucky and saw this guy and a friend just hanging out in the trees above us as we were walking along Creek Street in Ketchikan. Enjoy your cruise!
  7. Following along and really enjoying your posts. We are also hoping to get back to Alaska in 2024, so your planning ideas have been very helpful! Thank you for sharing!
  8. We enjoyed our snacks at the Frog and Onion when we were in Kings Wharf last week - they had a really yummy bacon onion cheese dip, and they had Bermuda brew on tap. We also popped into the Pickled Onion in Hamilton for a few appetizers, but it was up a steep flight of stairs to the second level, so I don't know if that would be a problem. (We were with my 78 year old mother who has bad knees and she was ok.) The food was very good though, and it wasn't far from the ferry terminal.
  9. We were there last week and there were a LOT of people in the water at Horseshoe Bay. I didn't see any jellyfish, but we only waded in and didn't swim there. On our snorkel trip to Devil's Isle, we didn't see any either.
  10. Beautifully written, GenX. Thanks for sharing! See you onboard!
  11. Looking forward to your review which is off to a great start! Thanks for taking us along - we get on next Sunday and can't wait! Safe travels and have fun!
  12. ARI421, I think I am on your cruise. 🙂 It sounds amazing to have been swimming with turtles on an empty beach but I'm guessing with the Cup Match tournament happening on the west side of the island this year, it will not be so quiet this time around. Would love to hear responses on this too. Thanks for posting the question!
  13. Oh my - I am now stressing over the Crown shortage. Poor DH upgraded to premium specifically because it has Crown included and that's what he drinks (like water, lol). We leave on the Summit on the 24th - I think I'll keep this little tidbit to myself and hope they restock on the 23rd!
  14. Loving your post! Thanks for all the info. You mentioned something about the welcome photos being different. I am a photo geek and tend to buy all they take - on boarding, at each port, dinner shots... so when we went to Alaska last year, I bought the unlimited package. The problem was, there were no port pictures and no welcome aboard shots. Instead they gave me like 50 pics of the same photos taken on formal night with different backgrounds that we never actually visited. Disappointing. Sorry for the ramble, but I just wondered what you meant about the photo package changing. Looking forward to the rest of your cruise posts! By the way, you both look stellar in your formal wear! 🙂
