  1. Hamrag; Hope you have a great cruise! If we stay in Chioggia, we are considering staying at the Grande Italia Hotel also. If we do, I’ll let you know you know what we thought of it.
  2. Thank you, but quote and question was for hamrag. Have a great trip!
  3. We are also considering staying a night or two pre cruise in Chioggia. The Grande Italia looks very accommodating. We would be traveling from Padua nearing the end of an independent Italy trip. We would probably take the bus from Padua to Chioggia. We are on the 4/22 departure from Chioggia. When do you embark? Safe and happy travels.
  4. Where did you get this information? I believe they operate on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, just not as frequently. Perhaps hourly instead of half hourly. Easy enough to look up for anyone considering it, but since I’m not taking the bus, I’m not concerned.
  5. Don’t really know how long the voyage would be from Chioggia. The only time we visited Murano and Burano we went by the water bus from Venice. I think it took about 20 minutes to get to Murano, then maybe 30 minutes or so to get to Burano from there. It was quite a while ago times may not be accurate. Should be a lovely trip from Chioggia. Hope you have sunny skies and great weather.
  6. Only did an auto day trip there years ago when we were visiting villas on the Bretna Canal and small towns south of Venice. My DW reminds me that we had an excellent lunch at El Gato Here is an article on dining in Chioggia that mentions the restaurant. https://www.finedininglovers.com/article/chioggia-new-york-times-destination-2022
  7. The train from Chioggia to Venice St Lucia would take about 3 hours. (If it’s still operating) You need to take the local train from Chioggia to Rovigo then transfer to the regional train, which goes through Padua and Mestre to Venice. The bus only takes a little over an hour with no changes. The train would go through lots of industrial areas, but maybe a few scenic ones too. Happy to hear, you are considering seeing what Chioggia has to offer. Slow Travel Slow Food Make memories that are slow to fade.
  8. There is inexpensive and frequent public bus service to/from Chioggia to Piazzale Roma in Venice and also Padua. Chioggia itself is rated a NY Times travel destination to see.
  9. Why would anyone need their website schedule? Viking will embark/disembark from the Cruise port in Chioggia. The only other ocean cruise ship that could possibly be there the same day would be Azamara.
  10. Not sure where the schedule for the Port of Chioggia could be found online, if at all. Viking and Azamara are the only ocean cruise lines, that I am aware of, that are using Chioggia for their Venice alternative port. So if Azamara doesn’t have a ship in port the day the day you are embarking/disembarking, you will be the only ocean cruise ship there. There are also some river cruise ships that visit Chioggia.
  11. No, but why do you need a schedule. Viking will embark/disembark at the Chioggia cruise terminal
  12. Viking cruise ships will embark and disembark from the Chioggia cruise terminal at Isola del Saloni.
  13. Don’t think the OP was suggesting TOTAL spontaneity on a cruise. The question the OP posed was…… “Query: Can one “overplan” a cruise??” Obviously an interesting post, that at least 15 people took the time to Like. 15
  14. Just trying to point out that the quality of food and restaurants in Barcelona is varied and excellent. From humble tapas bars, great Spanish restaurants, and surprisingly excellent Asian restaurants to highly awarded haute cuisine restaurants, there are pleasant and tasty surprises for all palates and pocketbooks in Barcelona.
  15. For a “blow the budget” last night extraordinary uh dining experience, Barcelona is home to a total of 19 Michelin Star restaurants, Including two three star ones.
  16. I’m sure you will be able to check in at least 30 days before embarking. If not, when we sailed out of Civitavecchia in October, we didn’t check in online. We just showed up at the check in tent at about noon. Waited in a seating are with light refreshments. Only 497 passengers on that sailing. We were on the ship around 1:00 PM
  17. It’s probably just a guesstimate from Azamara, listed, Right under Reservation Number and Guest names Check-in unavailableCheck-in opens March 8
  18. I, personally would not stay in Mestre for 2 nights, especially if you have never been in Venice at night. For me, Venice is magical in the evening. If you have been to Venice in the past, I would consider staying in Chioggia, somewhere in the old town.
  19. My 4/22 cruise shows check in available on 3/8/23. Seems more than reasonable.
  20. Obviously, some here feel that you didn’t do enough to deserve what you had requested. Not checking MVJ until almost 7 months before your cruise. Shame! Why can’t you be a prudent traveler like us?
  21. Conjecture? Or this a fact that one could find written somewhere? The OP did nothing wrong!
  22. So, it’s not the OP’s fault but they contributed to it? They did check MVJ a full. 6 months out from their cruise date, and were, only then made aware of the cancellation at that time. I guess they never got an email or instructions from Viking advising them to check MVJ periodically Maybe even every week or more? They are, apparently, not prudent travelers.
