Ok so following info in Sparky74 post, I just checked Franks travel insurance PDS and it doesnt include the snow sports option which seems to be even just going on ice/snow??? I did a dummy run and it looks like its $400 to add that option in........ arrggg which doesnt auger well if they cancel the excursion as in Marks case!!!!! I will phone the office on Monday and check if landing on a glacier counts as snow sports. Then  will reassess if the said excursion is worth it.

I am ashamed to say that I didn’t even think about extra cover but then I hadn’t thought I would be going in a helicopter ride.

There are some gorgeous spots that are best seen by helicopter. We had planned to do the Hawaiian one, but covid said no. During our previous visit, we had already stretched the budget. Some of our best holiday memories are from helicopters.

    Vegas night flight

    Whitsundays

Sydney Harbour, the day P&O had their 5 ships in the harbour

Canmore (just out of the national park at Banff), anyone visiting the Rockies is in awe of the icy peaks seen from the road or rail. The helicopter is 3D, with peaks beyond peaks beyond peaks.

All I can say Irene, a Glacier chopper will be well worth stepping outside the box for.

Agreed, I got talked into it years ago in Alaska on my first ever cruise and to quote one of my Grandsons favourite words Awesome.

It's been a busy couple of days. We had a lovely sailaway from Sydney. It was delayed by about an hour and we were surprised the ship was allowed to depart around 5pm as this is peak ferry traffic time. It was a gorgeous evening to sail out of Sydney Harbour.

We went to Sabatinis for dinner and had a lovely evening. I was celebrating a milestone birthday and was delighted when the Club Class Head Waiter came up to Sabatinis to to wish me happy birthday. After our main course our waiter placed dessert spoons and forks on the table. I didn't quite click until he also put empty plates in front of us and I saw all the waiters converging on our table. It was really lovely and the yummy chocolate mousse cake they presented me with was a delicious ending to our meal. It was much nicer that the mud cakes they used to have.

We were lucky to find seating in Crooners so enjoyed the talents of Paul C McD for the rest of the night. He is amazing, a very talented pianist, interesting crooner with the ability to mimic the original artists of some of the songs he is singing, and a great sense of humour. I looked at the time when I finally made it to bed - it was 00:00.

Consequently I was a bit tired yesterday morning and trivia was more of a challenge than usual.

We had a good turn-out at the informal Meet & Greet and, once again, it was lovely to put faces to the forum names. We all had a good chat before lunch.

We had a helicopter medical evacuation operating from noon to about 2:30pm. It must have been a tricky operation as it took a while for the air ambulance people to get dropped off, then the helicopter had to go back and refuel before taking the patient to hospital. I hope that person recovers OK.

A short while ago we were told our itinerary was changing due to a low creating strong winds and seas in the Adelaide region. We will now overnight in Melbourne and depart 5pm Friday. As yet they have not announced the revised itinarary past Friday but presumably one port will need to be dropped.

It was formal night last night, and Encore was on in the theatre - one of my favourite shows!

We got up this morning in time to see the ship pulling into the dock. There was a helicopter buzzing around - probably one of the TV channels.

We're going into the city today to do some shopping and catch up with our granddaughter.

Happy Birthday Julie,  love the Coral

  4. RIP Lilibet I vividly remember her coronation we had a day of school and in my small country town in UK we had a street party like no other with bunting strewn across the road from the bedroom windows of the terraced houses, the town Mayor in all his finery giving sweets to all the children

Its a day embedded in my mind that I will never forget.

I hesitate to ask, but are you sure that the lower price didn't include fees and taxes? Could the difference in price be between one with an alcohol package and one without? I ask because I just can't see P&O advertising a price then adding port fees and taxes later. 😃

Talk about “fools rush in”. Yes quite right I must have hit the next category

    Should have gone to Specsavers.

  6. Thought I had found real value in a P&O cruise until I started to “choose”

Why would P&O Australia send out a email on the flash sale and not include port fees and tax in the advertised price ?

I have never sailed with P&O but thought the price attractive so not so and sucked in

Yes, that is so. We always provide a credit card to the cruise company, but we have often checked our debit balance on the last night then paid that amount in cash leaving a nil balance.

I have always done that when travelling with my husband but he is not able to go on the next cruise so taking a newcomer with me.

She does not want to use her credit card after Princess charged her 3 times (on her first ever cruise with me in June) for a future cruise deposit and said she will use cash upfront for our Feb cruise, she will not be impressed if she hands over cash and ends up with Cheque.

She will load what little onboard spending before  we go and has the plus package so will not likely use any of the cash deposit.
