  1. We love our Carnival sling backpacks. Take them hiking a lot as well as on cruises. I like my Tervis tumbler, but we don't need 4 or 6 or 8 of them so the others that we have gotten have been sold on Ebay!

The black and gray - embroidered - single strap one?? We missed that one - by about a month...and I think it's something we really would have used!

If anyone has one they would mind parting with - I'd be interested. ;)

  2. The baseball hat was originally supposed to change at the end of October but now it's supposed to change in mid-November. John Heald had mentioned in his blog it would be changing mid-November. Rumor is that it's changing to a tote bag/duffel bag....something along those lines

That makes sense! The hats certainly didn't get a warm reception - according to posts here. But you can never go wrong with a tote bag - probably will appeal to more people.

Although...my first Platinum gift was a large zipper tote - and we never use it. We missed the smaller over the shoulder embroidered one by just a few months. That one I think we would have used. :o

  3. If you want a small, intimate experience on a first class yacht, then check out trip advisor reviews for the Rissalena. You can also walk to them from the tender pier, or take a water taxi. It is about a 20-25 minute walk.

This is a family run operation. They only allow a max of 24 passengers and for $55/person, you get a three hour tour, open bar, and a home cooked lunch, not snacks. You will not be disappointed, and OBTW, best bathroom on a boat.

They do not have a web page, you email Laura and Eduardo for reservations at rissacat@prodigy.net.mx

THAT was my next question....thanks!! :D

  4. Here are some pictures from our trip on the Rissalena :)

If you go here you can see some photos starting on the middle of page 8 and 9, and then more on 12

They got us very close and was a first class operation.

    Thanks for sharing!

I just booked the Whale Watching for our cruise in February. Glad to hear - and see - that you enjoyed it!

  5. Cathyoo - this was just posted on John Heald's fb page. I did not make the requst to him - but I didn't want you to miss his response!

    Name: Edna _____

Message: Dear John, I thought you must be the right person to help with this which is why I am writing to you. A lady posted this on www.cruisecritic.com message boards. “Next year we are having a memorial cruise for my beautiful daughter who passed away at the age of 33 from breast cancer. She was diagnosed 6 weeks before her wedding. She was married on the Carnival Pride 03/28/10.

    ...

We thought it would be fitting to have a memorial service onboard and scatter some of her ashes. Her husband could not do the Pride (too much heartache) and since we are from Philadelphia we chose to sail from NY. The cruise will also raise money for her passion Children's Literacy Initative (she was a teacher).

What should she do. Please help her John its so sad isn’t it.

Yes it is Edna, very sad and I am willing to help in any way I can. If there are any CC readers here please let this lady know she can contact me here, or my blog or via cclsupport@carnival.com and I will make sure we help accordingly. I send the family my sincere condolences

  6. Yes you can :) what did you have to do to get a reservation and did you love the food? I'm so excited to be able to do the chef table so anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Thank you!!

I would look in the lobby - or ask when you board - where you can book it. There are no pre-reservations even for suite guests so it's a first come first serve. Usually limited to 12 - but we did have 14 and the Chef commented it was a "very large" group.

Dinner was held in the Haven restaurant. The food was quite good, beautifully presented. The menu had a lot of variety and large portions for a meal with NINE courses!

We are not really wine drinkers - but we enjoyed them too. It was on Thursday night of our sailing - which seemed to be a closely guarded secret even though most of the other Breakaway sailings it had also been on Thursday. Go figure....

Bring your camera - the Chef had no problem with those in our group who wished to take photos of the various courses. Included was a copy of the menu - signed by the Chef who presented and explained each course and 2 photos. One of the whole group and one DH and me with the Chef.

It was a lot of fun - and we enjoyed it!

  7. We ended up putting his daiquiri in our fridge for later and went to a margarita tasting. You got 5 small margaritas for $15: regular, cherry. apple (yum), peach and frozen strawberry. I won a free drink for answering the following: What do you get if you throw a red stone into a blue ocean? A wet stone, of course.

We staggered back to our room to relax and noticed Bermuda in sight. This was the day that a woman had fallen 2 stories and needed to be taken to the hospital post haste. I do not know why a helicopter wasn’t used but we apparently boogied and a tug picked her up. I can tell you that the sea was like glass and even at such speed I never felt any motion on this ship.

HEY....I recognize those margaritas!! But....by the time the stawberry one arrived the rest of ours were empty  ;)

Thanks for listing the flavors - we were just telling some friends about them last night and couldn't remember them all. :o

Still think the peach was my favorite!!

  8. Hi Neighbor!

The Epic club is a great perk. Lucky you with 14 days of it!!!

Our first experience in 2010 had staff exclusively assigned to the Epic Club. Our last experience in Feb 2013 had fewer regulars and staff from all other specialty restaurants also worked in the Epic Club. IMO, the experience and service was not the same. However, it is still very good/excellent. I suppose you could request the same server being they were working that night in the Epic Club.

Here are some recomendations: Best meal in Epic Club: Wild Mushroom Ravioli

Best drink in Epic Lounge: Apple Manhattan

As good as the Epic Club is, I dont find it realistic to eat there every night as you say you will for 12 days. The menu is good but extremely limited. You will get bored quick. Epic has so many great restaurants that it would be a shame to not try others. Teppanyaki , Shanghais, and Cagneys are excellent!

    Agreed!

Even with the "daily special" for the evening meal the menus are quite limited and get old pretty quick. On the Epic we ate there 3 nights - and that was enough for us.

FYI...the menus on for the Haven restaurant on the Breakaway are identical. We didn't do any dinners there last week - too many other choices! ;)

  9. Another Paleo person! :)

I feel like I'm going to need to be in the dining room for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. ;) I don't want anything with oil, butter, seasonings, etc. Basically baked plain chicken or fish with steamed, plain vegetables. But again, I usually drink at least two meals per day (green smoothies) because I don't do well with raw vegetables/greens.

I would contact the special needs department.

I know they handle all special requests - and since yours is health related I would start there!

  10. planning on a fall cruise on breakaway, any aft facing haven penthouse suites to stay away from? or conversely any that you prefer? online shows deck 14, 9, 10 are available. still cant find a floor plan for this class of suite, any one find one thats available for view?

    thanks

    roger

General feeling is that Deck 9 has the largest balconies.

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

  11. Hi. DH and myself are booked on the Breeze in October (and can't wait). We love the 'L' shaped rooms and have booked 6468, my Mom and her friend are booked next door to us in 6460 (can't wait to open the divider and have a nice long balcony :D)

I'm curious - I've read that there is a lot of noise from the Limelight Lounge below for the deck 6 aft rooms. For anyone who has sailed on the Breeze and stayed in either of these rooms, can you say if these rooms were also loud?

I can't tell from the deck plan online - but it almost appears that these rooms are more over the Steakhouse than the lounge....

Any info appreciated - I'll figure a way to deal with any noise, just trying to plan ahead for packing. Thanks!

We've been in 6501 (the aft wrap twice) and not had any noise issues from the Limelight.

But....on the last one - just a couple of weeks ago, the nights of the big deck parties for Red Frog and the Blue Iguana we could hear some base. But those wrap up early enough that it was not an issue at all for us! ;)

  12. Were the prices for water and alcohol similiar to the Sheraton?

The Sheraton was an all-inclusive so they was no extra charge for drinks (soft or alcoholic) and food. There wasn't a great selection for lunch - as basic buffet but we didn't spend any money there at all once we were admitted.

I will ask my DDIL to stop this thread to give more details since she was actually there! ;)

  13. Some members of my family just did it last week when we were on the Breeze. They booked it - kinda last minute (2 weeks before) and there really wasn't alot of information. It hasn't been open very long.

Evidently is it a "shared" island - half belongs to the Sandals Resort and the other half is Balmoral, which used to be called something else before Carnival took it over and renovated it. They LOVED it - would defintely do it again. We had done the day pass at the Sheraton and they said that Balmoral was MUCH nicer.

Very clean, new...tons of chairs and umbrellas all included. They did not mention anything about cabanas. The only "negative" I heard from any of the them was the expense for things like water.
