  1. I trust Don's opinion, having sailed with him a few times. Once I heard that he had booked this sailing (sometime last year) I looked closer at this ship, and indeed this line -- something I had previously just brushed off.

He was RIGHT - we had a SUPER time!

    Tom

Which is EXACTLY why you should book again!! ;) Maybe the 2/4/12 sailing?? :D

  2. well yes and yes......

sorry if I called the suite by the wrong name, yes it's a 2 bedroom. awesome. We might have a friend who will go with us, if not I have a place to sleep if John is snoring badly haha.

Guess I will call bon voyage and order some liquor as it gets closer to cruise time.

    thanks for the info.

Jeez, I would have happily picked you up some booze, some people !

    Me too!!

  3. Was poking around on NCL website and noticed if we changed the date to 2/4/12, we could get a 2 bedroom penthouse villa for a little cheaper that the penthouse courtyard balcony cabin we had booked for 2/25.....so I called my pvp and snapped that puppy up !

Saw the 360 view of the suite and it sure is SWEET.

Now I have a question, do we get the 3 bottles of hooch with that cabin ? I forgot to ask my pvp.

    Thanks.

Hey, that's when we are going too!! ;) Have you stopped by the roll call?? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1360189

  4. Don,

Any chance that you plan to contiune providing similar accounts of the rest of your upcoming NCL sailings ??

We are booked on the Epic - thanks to you, Tom and Cheryl. But we are interested in hearing/learning about other NCL ships - and think your experiences would be helpful, in case we are interested in contiuning our NCL adventures! ;) :D

  5. I was wondering if anyone has ever missed their ship on embarkation day due to delayed/cancelled flight or some other weird reason. If so what did you do? DH and I had thought about it and said we better have a plan B just in case. We do have travel insurance but the thought of not getting on the ship after months of anticipation would be terrible. When we booked airfare in March the prices were outrageous and we opted for a flight arriving in Miami at 12:15 as it was the lowest price. TA said that would be fine. Of course, over the past few days, I'm seeing a lot lower prices into Miami and more choices of earlier flights (doesn't it figure). Anyways, is it possible to try to get on another ship leaving the next day? I don't think that would even work as the Destiny leaves on a Monday and I have no idea if any ships on any line out of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale leave on a Tuesday ??? He said a plan B could be to rent a car and go the the keys.

Any stories and experiences out there?

That is definately a tight schedule - with little or no room for error. As others had said - catching the next ship is not going to be an option.

So - for piece of mind I would change my flights and find a way to deal with the per ticket change fee or develop a plan B that you are comfortable with.

Another thought...does the travel insurance you have cover getting to the ship in the first port??

  6. I've never missed a cruise, but I've missed lots of airline flights and connections. It isn't just weather in your area you have to worry about. Weather delays in another part of the country can delay your airplane from arriving for you to board. 3-4 hours late when you're just going to a hotel is annoying, but workable. When you need to catch a ship, it has potential to be really problematic.

Or....mechanical issues of your plane - or the one trying to get to you!

  7. OMG, I cannot stand the wait anymore....I beleive that we will buy a cruise credit onboard so that we can book a back to back for our 30th anniversary...this thread and CC is the only thing keeping me going - 3 more weeks....:D

    LOL...right there with 'ya!

This thread has definately helped "sell" us - along with some gentle coaxing from other CC friends ;) - we are looking to do it early in 2012. The (slightly early) celebration of our 30th anniversary - as well :D!!

  8. They have sold them in the Formalities shop on every one of our cruises.

I always point them out and tell DW I am getting one this cruise, then she gives me I'll be sleeping in the hall speech.;)

    Bill

    Agreed!

But on the Dream they also had them with the photos. The funnel hats and stuffed Funship Freddie dolls were both places! The last night they were both on "sale" - so I picked up the hat for my DS ;).

  9. I did that tour on Miracle. They don't show you the morgue but they are willing to discuss it. There is also a brig, where you may end up if you have too much fun and don't die. Basically it is a crew cabin with a door that does not open from the inside.

I once read an article by a person who was employed as a piano player on a cruise ship, and his cabin was next to the morgue. Good place if you ask me... neighbors are usually quiet.

...and on the Dream they are right next to each other  ;)!!

  10. Do you recall a couple years back there was a lawyer who led a revolt on the Conquest because he didn't believe that the passengers were being fairly compensated for a change in itinerary due to a hurricane?

Capt Marino dumped him and his family off in Grand Cayman to find their own way home.

That kind of thing will get you banned for life...

    :)

    ...and it should!

  11. We stayed in 8448. I wouldn't suggest it, unless you are prepared to pay the extra $$$ required to be in an aft wrap for every other cruise you will ever take.

The balconies are amazing. We loved the 8th floor because it does have one of the longest balconies, but I don't think you can go wrong with any floor.

    Enjoy!

    EXCELLENT point...:D LOL!!

Although we have never been on the Freedom - I too would highly recommend the aft extended and especially aft wrap cabins. But I agree with dalsti......just a word of warning - once you do it.....you will never want to go back to a regular balcony .

The views are unbelievable and balconies are HUGE. It is also nice an quiet back there - because no one goes that far back unless they have a cabin so there is very little "hall noise".

    Yep....we're hooked ;)!!
