  1. I’m rather surprised at the tone of some of the responses on this thread, somewhat berating the posts and opinions voiced others. I think people are entitled to their opinion on their experience, which is what I thought this forum is for. It’s ok to say you loved the food as well as it’s ok to say that you hated it. I’m more interested in the “why”, why did you love it, why did you hate it? Maybe some people are over critical, and maybe some people don’t complain even when faced with subpar food or service. Hopefully most are like me: not too fussy but since this isn’t free I do expect the food and service to be reasonably good, or at least ok. In any event I appreciate the many people who have posted with specific observations and suggestions regarding the items now bring offered
  2. If you can post your review that would be awesome. I’m not expecting fabulous food but hope for reasonably good food and service
  3. jinx, I owe you a coke. ( old school boomer reference). As soon as I finished writing, I saw your post 😄
  4. Thank you for your informative post. It was especially helpful to me since I’ll be cruising on the Oasis in 6 weeks. I’m not a foodie either. I just want food that is edible and service that is adequate. Actually I’m ok with less than that but I’ve convinced a number of first time cruisers to sail with us, ( some agreed begrudgingly) so I’d like to make a good impression
  5. True. I’m sailing on the Oasis in early May so I’m especially interested in input from people that have sailed her recently
  6. Thank you. I just booked one dinner at a specialty restaurant, not a dining package, and I guess I just didn’t catch it
  7. I’ve been on a ton of cruises but don’t eat at the specialty restaurants that often. When we have done so, we have tipped extra, thinking that the automatic gratuities that are added daily to your account covers general staff and not the specialty restaurants. Am I reading other posts correctly? Is there a 18% gratuity already added to your specialty restaurant charge which is separate and apart from the automatic gratuities added daily to your account? Does anyone know if that 18% tip goes to the restaurant staff or is it distributed to staff ship wide? if I’m already paying daily gratuities and on top of that another 18% at the specialty restaurant then I will adjust the amount of cash tips accordingly. Unless the service is intentionally awful, I probably will still tip over the 18% but it’s good to know the baseline. Thanks
  8. Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m going to make a more of what you and others enjoyed
  9. Good to know that you have had a positive experience. there is hope!
  10. This does not bode well for our upcoming Oasis sailing in May. I am not a foodie by any means but my son is getting married on that sailing and several of our friends and family ( that are incurring the expense in terms of time and money) have never cruised before and are only going because of the wedding. I don’t want them to be disappointed or to be turned off to cruising by subpar food or service. I know that the industry is trying to make up for lost revenue due to the pandemic but this is not the way to attract new customers. There will always be a core group that is loyal to Royal but even there they may start to lose customers. I’ve been on 20+ cruises and I’m starting to re think it myself
  11. It seems that most of the posts about the quality of the food since the new menus seem to indicate that the quality has gone down, but of course that is subjective. Considering that I’m committed to an upcoming cruise and cancelling isn’t an option, I’m hoping that the food isn’t as bad as it seems. Anyone enjoying the new menu on the Oasis?
  12. That’s an amazing track record. Have you had success going from sky class suite to star class suite? If so, had the star suite category shown availablity at the time of your bid or had they been sold out?
  13. Good to know. Hopefully it was just an off day when that couple had the bad experience
  14. Thank you. Getting married on a cruise ship seems like a good idea, until you get into the logistics. But I’d probably be stressed anyway even if it was on land. It’s the nature of the event
  15. Yes I plan to speak to the maitre d’ as soon as I board. I also booked a suite for us as well as the bride and groom in hopes that the concierge can help smooth things out
  16. I have tried to no avail. The group is meeting in the MDR most nights but I wanted to do something special for the rehearsal dinner
  17. I went through the events planning people. It was very difficult to book anything at all. Originally I wanted to do it at 150 Central Park but was told they couldn’t accommodate us
  18. It was a video recorded by the couple as they waited in the restaurant. They posted it on YouTube which is where I saw it.
