We were on Odyssey of the seas when my husband hit a handpay. He was playing with his sea card but did not have his driver’s license on him. They need that to make out the tax form. I was at a different slot machine and they came over to me and took my ID and processed the tax document in my name as if I had hit the hand pay instead of him. It didn’t matter since we are married and file jointly. We are also both Prime and eligible for free drinks in the casino, but getting a handpay does not have any bearing on that. Your status depends on the amount you play on your card, not what you win or lose.

Good point, thank you for mentioning it. I take several pills a day, was just going to bring enough to cover the cruise. Now I’ll bring more just in case

What about returning to the US? I know that at least until 6/15 a negative test taken within a day is necessary for the flight home. but what happens if you test positive? I understand you must remain in Italy and self quarantine but how does that work? Is it basically the honor system at a hotel of your choice for a number of day or until you test negative or is the quarantine government enforced and regulated? Anyone know?

Wow! That is awful. Thank you for the warning. We will be very careful. Actually as wonderful cirque Terre seems I’m not sure I want to deal with the crowds in June. I’m considering Portofino, rapallo and Santa Margarita instead. But I’ll be careful there also.

We are thinking of doing that tour as well. I reserved it with the pay later option. We are on the wonder to the seas 6/23 sailing out of Rome, I’m Marseille on 6/28. If you are there at the same time we can possibly share a cab to the pick up spot? We are 2 people. BTW I think that there may be quite a bit of walking involved, don’t know if that would work for your mom

I can not thank you enough for taking the time to leave such an informative post. So many good suggestions!! I am definitely following them all! I have been to Europe before but both times with a bus tour company, so diy is new to me. I so appreciate your guidance as well as that of other posters.

Thank you. I’ll leaning towards buying the train ticket that stops at each village. Getting off the ship I’m sure we will see people walking to the train station. Do you know if the tickets can be bought on line in advance? Also is it possible to combine the train with a ferry? How does that work? Take the ferry first or hop off the train take the ferry then continue on the train? Lastly is the water calm? I get really seasick on small boats. ( not a problem on the mega ships with stabilizers) thank you everyone for all your help. I realize I have so much to learn about traveling!!!

Hello again! We chatted on a different thread. Thanks for the info. I think we feel more comfortable with a tour or at least a guide, but we haven’t been able to find anything we like. So we might try to do it DIY. So if you see two women wandering around lost, that might be us! are we on the same Wonder of the Seas sailing? We sail 6/23.

I’m traveling with my sister in law. I don’t think we are up for figuring out our way around, since we have never been there before. So for us it is easier to go with a tour. We wound up booking the Barcelona Day tour which wasn’t crazy expensive. We are on the Wonder ( as are you) and we will DIY Palma de Majorca, but are looking for tours in Marseille and La Spezia. In the fall I’m doing a trip with the hubby, from Sicily to Barcelona on our own. So that will be my second time in Barcelona and will feel more comfortable doing our own thing.

Our ship, the wonder of the seas, will dock at La Spezia at around 8am on 6/29/2022. It is further from Florence than I thought and I’m not sure I want to spend a good chunk of the day getting there and back in time for our 8:30 departure. What are other options? I was thinking of Cinque Terre but there are just 2 of us and most tours are for established groups of 4 or more. I think it can be done DIY but I have a terrible sense of direction and am a bit concerned since I’ve never been in the area. Any thoughts? Anyone looking for 2 to join your group?

Hi we are on the Wonder of the Seas and will be docking at La Spezia on 6/28/2022. We are thinking of visiting Cinque Terre. Shore Emotion provides a tour where they basically hold your hand as you take the train between the villages. It is probably possible to do it DIY but I have a terrible sense of direction and probably wont make it past the cruise terminal on my own. The cost for the tour is pretty reasonable in my view. But I never heard of the tour company before. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Thanks

Ok thanks. I was considering doing an organized tour through Barcelona Day Tours which people have recommended on cc but I like the idea of going in our own and being more flexible

Oh did you purchase tickets to those venues on your own online or doing an organized tour? I hear cabs are plenty and not too expensive. Did you preorder the cab or you will just wave down one at the port?
