  1. We recently returned from a cruise on the Carnival Magic. The first day of the trip a credit of $ 9.01 appeared on our bill for each of us. The explanation was "Refund taxes, fees and port expenses." What was odd was we had no cancelled ports. I'm assuming there was an OVER estimate of costs. It certainly wasn't a fortune but we definitely appreciated Carnival's integrity in doing so. With 3700 passengers onboard they could have pocketed the difference and no one would have known.
  2. We are scheduled to be in Puerto Plata January 31st on the Dawn. Besides the Dawn four other ships are scheduled; the Gem, the Encore, the Celebration and the Nieuw Amsterdam. Since the Celebration and the Nieuw Amsterdam are Carnival properties I assume they will be docked at Amber Cove while the three NCL ships will be at Taino Bay. Seems like too many ships to be there all once. I wouldn't be surprised if there were port cancellations. It would be nice to be informed of that ahead of time so alternative plans can be made.
  3. Ship - Magic Deck - 7 Stateroom - 7434 Category - 4E Interior Port Side This cabin creaked badly to the point we needed earplugs to sleep at night. The greater the ship motion the more noise. Maintenance tried placing shims between the walls and a few of the ceiling panels but it didn't improve anything. It was unfortunate because the cabin was very conveniently located near the elevator with easy access to the Lido buffet and rear deck area. I would suggest only people who can sleep through anything book this cabin.
  4. We are not new to cruising and have previously been on the Spirit, the Panorama and the Legend. This, however, will be our first time aboard the Magic. Is there anything unique, different or interesting about the Magic we should know about? Our ports will include Aruba, Bonaire and Grand Turk which are also new to us. Any information would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Anyone know the cost of a cab or an Uber from the Tampa cruise terminal to the Tampa airport? It seems Uber prices can vary depending on the time of day or demand. I also read there are shuttle buses waiting at debarkation that don't require reservations and run about $15 pp. Has anyone done that? Thank you.
  6. The Panorama serves 2 flavors of gelato at lunch in the buffet with lots of "add yourself" toppings. If I recall it may have only been on sea days but it was delicious.
  7. We both do a carry on and a back pack when flying to a cruise so there is no lost luggage at the airport. Once we get to the cruise terminal we attach our room tags to the carry ons, take a picture of them (for easy identification if lost) and check them so we only have to manage our backpacks until the cabins are available. Our backpacks contain our necessities and a change of clothes. When we debark we carry everything off with us and are on our way.
  8. Twice when we sailed on HAL we got a $100 OBC for military/veterans. NCL is currently offering a 10% discount for military/veterans on their cruises. It would be nice if Carnival did something similar.
  9. Gelato at lunch on the Panorama. They serve two different flavor each day with lots of toppings you add yourself. It is my understanding only a few other ships have it. Wish they all did. Yum!
  10. We recently took a 16 day cruise Seattle to Miami. Since we had a balcony cabin we chose the starboard side so our cabin was darker in the mornings and had the sunsets for about 2/3's of the trip. Sometimes it doesn't matter to us but this time it did.
  11. Can any cabin request a coffeemaker or only suites, etc.? We're platinum, will that help? Thanks
  12. Since you are sailing in late January you shouldn't expect the temperatures to go above the mid 60's in the day time and upper 50's at night until you get below Ensenada. Wind at sea could also lower those temperatures. The farther south you go the warmer the air and water temperatures will be so pool/slide usage will probably only be near Cabo since the pools aren't heated. You shouldn't require more that a light/medium jacket if you dress in layers.
  13. Thanks for the info. You saved me a phone call. I was going to try for our January cruise too.
  14. In order to receive this offer you must verify your eligibility with ID.me first. Recently a theme park near us was giving free tickets to veterans so I was going to apply. The form required extensive personal information including branch of service, date of service, service number, social security number, etc. I decided not to complete the application after all. I understand certain facts are needed for verification but I also hesitate providing that much personal knowledge to a third party website. I wasn't worth it to me for the theme park tickets but may reconsider when we book our next cruise.
  15. We did 16 days on the Spirit last month and I couldn't agree more. Aside from the extremely loud music in some of the venues it couldn't have been better.
  16. Unfortunately there is a difference between people who debark with true "carry ons" and those who debark with multiple pieces of full sized luggage they checked in when boarding the ship. The latter are the ones who clog the elevators and corridors causing delays for other passengers. We recently completed a 16 day cruise with just small flight cases and backpacks thanks to the self-serve laundry facilities onboard and the warm weather itinerary.
  17. My favorite is the Key Lime Cheesecake. Delicious and sugar free.
  18. You now only have 14 days from the original booking date to transfer an NCL cruise to a TA. To do so you fill out a Direct Guest Transfer Request Form available online.
  19. We're at 53 years and still going strong. I attribute it to my hubby's philosophy "Happy wife, happy life!"😀
  20. We had two cruises booked that were sailing three months apart. I applied for both OBC's at the same time and were credited with $250 for our 16 day cruise and $100 for our 8 day cruise. It was nice not having to submit each cruise separately. We applied in late April by snail mail and were approved in late May for our Sept. 2022 and Dec. 2022 trips.
  21. Battery operated tea candle light (about $1.00 each) to use as a bathroom nightlight. Last cruise it was still working after 16 nights. We prop the bathroom door open and it provides just enough light so you don't trip and can see what you're doing without having to turn on the ceiling light. Yellow highlighter. I still like the printed "daily" so I can use it to mark my activities. Small clipboard, pencils and lots of crossword puzzles, sudokus and jumbles. The "one a day" on the ship isn't enough. A pencil with several wraps of duct tape on it for emergencies. Earplugs and sleep mask. Travel clock
  22. It was back in 2019 and the promo code says: AIRPROM2. We paid a total of $99pp to fly from Southern California to Vancouver then home again from Anchorage. We NEVER could have found anything that reasonable on our own. Oddly the NCL airport transfers cost us $40pp for each airport (total $160) which was almost as much as the total airfare of $198 for both of us.
  23. The one time we used NCL our original flights were terrible. I went to the sites for the airlines they were using and came up with an itinerary that was much better including a nonstop flight. I then called NCL's air desk and asked if we could have those flights. They agreed and changed for no charge. This was pre-Covid and the flights were domestic but you might try it. The worst they can do is say no and the time spent on the phone would be worth it if it saved you several hours in layover time.
  24. We are not technically inclined AT ALL. Recently we just paid for a single 24 hour internet connection for $13 half way through our cruise then used their internet cafe to check emails, email our family and surf the internet. It was enough for us since our phone service provider didn't have an international plan.
  25. We were on the same cruise as you and on deck 8 midship in an extended balcony. Agree, we loved the ship too and never saw a bug either except for a fly in the Lido on one of the port days. Aside from the terribly loud music and the long debarkation lines it was a wonderful trip.
