  1. We are going the day before our cruise. We booked the Sheraton in Old San Juan but I was wondering if there are any hotels near the Pan American port who offer shuttle service from airport and then the day of the cruise to the port. If we stay at the Sheraton we have to take a cab to the hotel and also to the port. Has anyone stayed at the Sheraton or is there a better place to stay the day before the cruise?? (I hope this makes sense). I'm thinking maybe the cab is the way to go instead of depending on hotels shuttle service. Any thoughts

    Thanks,

    Carol

  2. Your review & pictures are really awesome. We will be on the Adventurer in Aug. with our son and his family. We were in San Juan before 9/11 and there was a gentleman who gave us a tour all over San Juan. His name was Orlando and we still talk about that tour! He had us everywhere so your photos brought back many memories. Everyone knew Orlando!! I'm really enjoying your review, you write well!! I'm getting anxious to sail in August.

Thank you for all your work. It's great!

  3. Please bear with me!! This is the first time we are flying Southwest. We booked a return flight from San Juan and today I noticed the price went down $40. Would I be able to cancel and rebook that flight?? Its already on our credit card!!

    Thanks for your response.

  4. I was searching for a decent airfare from Pittsburgh to San Juan. FINALLY, I have one that doesn't seem out of sight. We booked with Southwest (no luggage fees) and paid $458 round trip. This is for August. A friend is going in November and she paid $356. I saw some fares that were in the $500-$600 range. While reading these boards someone stated if you see a fare you can live with book it. Its amazing how they go up and down. I guess you have to be at the right place at the right time. Safe travels.

  5. I know that there are those that book further out to select their cabin choice. I wonder how many of you wait until final payments are due to book. We are looking into the Adventurer in August out of San Juan. Airfare right now is pretty high. Should we wait to book later and hope airfare will go down (I know only the rain comes down)!! Or should we book now with the "sale" price on the cruise?

    Thanks for your replies.

  6. We cruised to Alaska both in May and Sept. Our weather was great!! On the Sept. cruise my husband wore shorts in Skagway the temp was in the 70s. On both cruises we wore light jackets. I can't comment on wildlife because we didn't take any tours to see them. However, Eagles were plentiful. Alaska is beautiful, enjoy your cruise.

  7. We've cruised to Hawaii in April & October.

April...rough seas first 2 days out, bags taped to the handrails, a lot of passengers stayed in their cabins. It's still considered the rainy season and we did experience quit a few showers, slightly cooler than we expected.

October.....calmer seas, fantastic weather, very humid in Oahu, water was perfect! This would be my choice if we were to go back.

This could be my post!! I totally agree with ramrax4. We sailed both months also. October out of San Diego back in '07. Everything about that cruise was wonderful. It was rough the first 2 days but weather was wonderful. This past April out of San Francisco the seas were very rough. Handrails had those lovely bags attached!! The first night I held onto my husband in bed hoping neither one of us would fall out!! I'm not kidding!! The weather was chilly and rainy. Sailing back from Hawaii we weren't allowed on the outside decks due to high winds, rain. Rough sailing. My pick October. Hoping to go back some day.

  8. I've been pricing the Adventure for 8/13/16. Yesterday they offered $100 OBC, today it is offered for $50. The price of an ocean view increased $143.00Inside cabins remained the same price but lowered the OBC from $100 to $50.00. This just doesn't make sense. They are saying its a Leap Year Sale--really! I don't see a sale price today, yesterday maybe but not today. Is this how they do sales?? I guess its when you see a good price book because you never know what a difference a day makes.

    No I didn't book!

  9. I was one who ended up in the medical center the first night of a Hawaiian cruise in '07.I was dehydrated and was on IV fluids for 2 1/2 hrs. needless to say after that experience I found Bonine. It contains meclizine and it works for me. I was told to take it two days before cruising. I take one tablet everyday on the cruise.

On our April '15 cruise to Hawaii the first night out was so rough I held onto my husband so we wouldn't fall out of bed (I'm not kidding). The next day I swear people were green!! Thankfully, I didn't get seasick which I considered a miracle the way the ship was rocking.

There are many good suggestions from the posters. Hopefully you won't need anything but in case you do you can see what works for others. Enjoy your cruise.

  10. We were on the Star last April out of San Francisco going to Hawaii. Oh boy, our first night out I actually held on to my husband for fear of falling out of bed. I never experienced rough seas as I did that night. The next morning a lot of people looked "green" to me. When you see those little bags on the railings you know the seas are rough. Our cabin was located on the Emerald deck.

We were very lucky to have Eula on our cruise. They are a husband and wife team who are great entertainers and live in Hawaii. The ship offered a lot of Hawaiian things to do. The other poster gave you a lot of great information.

The Star is a wonderful ship. The crew are friendly and aim to please. The dining room staff are great. We really enjoyed our cruise and I'm sure you will too. Have a wonderful time.

  11. I was wondering has anyone ever switched a cruise they had booked to another cruise of a different itinerary?? It would mean cancelling the one cruise to book another. Sounds possible just wondering if anyone has done it.

  12. As one who won the contest of most mosquito bites (32) on vacation in NC one year, I'm really debating about cruising in November. Some of the islands mentioned that have the virus are ports we are to visit. I'm well over childbearing age, however, I don't want to experience flu like symptoms while on a cruise ship! Lots to think about.

    Have a nice day.

  13. We are in E514 on the Island. It shows completely obstructed. Anyone stay there?

I hope you don't mind but I just checked Renmars site and E514 is completely obstructed. If I were you I'd try to change that cabin. The ones I saw that were decent are E3,4,7,8,9,10,16,17,18,19. There is some obstruction but you can see daylight!! 514 wouldn't be my choice. As I said I hope you don't mind my checking.

  14. We booked obstructed ocean view cabins a few times. In fact for our Royal cruise in Nov. we have one. Its a balcony obstructed. If your thinking of booking an obstructed the advice to go to the website that Renmar has you will find the cabins listed. I always check with the site and found it very helpful. Some cabins have little or no obstruction, some I wouldn't book! He did a fantastic job providing great information.

We really aren't in our cabins that much. I'm looking forward to our balcony obstructed on the Royal. Good luck in your search!
