don’t understand the fascination of the hot glass on board the ship.

For us it was the novelty of doing it while on vacation….and on a cruise ship, no less. I’ve no doubt there are several places to do this in my area but once I’m out of vacation mode I’ve no time to blow glass into a vase or paperweight.

I had the same experience. Got the 5% (published discount for everyone) but could not get an additional 5% when calling and requesting based on alleged 😉 captain's club discount.

But you can get the additional 5% once on board. We did it this way and it worked out fine.

  3. My understanding is that positive remarks left for crew can result in helping them elevate through the ranks via promotions and greater responsibility/pay.  It should also be noted that positive remarks that do not accompany a 10 rating does the reverse.  We had a great room attendant on Ascent and I wanted to make sure she was recognized.  She explained that if there was anything about the experience that was less than a 10 rating, it would impact negatively, even if my remarks were positive.  I have also learned that most Celebrity crew are quite tight lipped on specifics such as perks and awards from the company.

BUT, on our last sailing, I booked a class for 2 which was offered for $170. I called to book and got another $8.50 discount, so I was billed $161.50. We never had to apply for any discounts onboard and each got a $200 "allowance" for our piece.

Wow! That's awesome!  It seems the only thing consistent about Celebrity is their inconsistency from ship to ship!  It's why I completely agree that the OP should call again.

I just called and the rep said I have to pay the regular pre-sailing price now, and the 5% will refunded to my onboard account after I board the ship. Does that sound right?

That's how they did it when we did the hot glass class.  The price you pay is an entry price..meaning, you may select to make a piece that is priced higher than the reservation price on line.  Therefore, you pay the difference when you complete the class and will get your discount for the full amount at that time.  If you do not make a more expensive piece then the 5% is credited back to your account.  The other option is to book the class on embarkation day.  It fills up quickly so if you go this route, don't delay in signing up for the class.  Going this route ensures you get the 5% off whatever piece you make without having to get the credit to your account.

p.s. I had the bourbon and peaches tonight — no extra charge.

Thank you for the pics!  I'm very intrigued by your cabin but the lack of an awning would be a deal breaker for me as I can't tolerate much sun.

And I appreciate you taking one for the team by ordering the B&P!   😊

  7. Wanted to ask if you've noticed a price increase in signature cocktails in Luminae.  I just looked in my my app for our cruise at the end of the month on Edge and it is showing that the Luminae signature Bourbon and Peaches is now $18...which is over the $17 threshold.  Can you confirm?

Keep in mind that you itinerary has likely been open for bookings for about 18 months,  and this close to your sailing date (38 days) it would not surprise me to see any remaining in inventory be sold by now.

This is a very good point!  We booked our suite 14 months ago for our Alaska sailing this month.

But wouldn't the lower categories open up if it was move up bids?  and do they even award bids this far off from sailing date?

Yes, one would think.  After trying to do some mock bookings it appears that Celebrity's Alaska season is on the verge of sold out.  We are on Edge to Alaska May 31 and I just checked the availability for that cruise...all is sold except Veranda Guarantee or the Iconic suite and a Celebrity suite.

Looks like most of the cruises in June are sold out

Only June 2 and June 30 are showing up

Funny...I was just looking as well.  You are right!  Mostly sold out.

  11. It seems strange to me that all the remaining suites would sell out in just a few days but I don't have any insider knowledge on how they do things....maybe it was move up bids or maybe it's a computer error.  Keep checking!

  12. Sailed Ascent on the pre-maiden voyage back in November.  It was one of the best cruises I've ever taken.  Great food, service and entertainment.  Ship is beautiful inside and out.  The only thing I didn't like was having to leave....can't wait to sail on her again someday!

That does not sound right. Your packages may take a bit to show up if you just recently booked. The issue where the upgrade option was not available in the Cruise Planner seems to be mostly resolved now. Either way, call if you have to and they can sell the upgrade over the phone.

So I just called Celebrity to upgrade our drinks package.  I gave the reservation number to the rep and was told that our booking rate was cruise only.  Our TA said it's classic bev pkg and basic wifi.  Celebrity rep says not so.  I'm very confused.  I've reached out to the TA for clarification.  Here's a list of promos in the booking confirmation:

What's your take @Jeremiah1212?  Thank you!!

What do you mean by added when you booked? You booked All Included with Drinks and WiFi or you paid separately for the drink package? You can only adjust the price if you purchased drinks separately.

So if I have the classic package when I booked, I can still upgrade, right?  My package came under a group rate and isn’t showing in my planner. According to my TA it won’t show and I can’t upgrade until I board which means I can’t take advantage of the  35% off. Does that sound right to you?

I might have to call them then. We had 4 comped cruises and paid to upgrade and didn’t get the points from any of them. Will call tomorrow ……maybe you were just lucky!

Please report back. Seems to me if one pays for the upgrade then they should get the associated points. Could be that you didn’t/some don’t due to the way the booing is originally shown in the system.

We had a flight mechanical which meant we would miss the ship. I called FBC and 10 minutes later call back with reservations on a different airline. We flew to new city where ship was, and were picked up by a private driver.   If booked thru FBC, they handle it.  no additional charge

I know there are new staff at Celebrity and FBC.   Why dont you call and ask?

Last March we almost missed our cruise to the Mexican Riviera due to AA mechanical issues.  We did not use FBC and were in panic mode for nearly 24 hours.  With a little luck and A LOT of help from people here on CC, we were literally the last people to board the ship.  Though we were in contact with the shoreside concierge as well as the port agent, there was no guarantee we'd make it and getting to the ship at the first available port would have been on our dime.  So yes, FBC seems like a no brainer to me.

It's not for everyone...and there was a time when I definitely poo-pooed the benefits...not any more.

  17. I can understand why they would pivot to no photos. We were allowed to take photos on our bridge tour but it was several years ago.  I don’t think I’ve looked at them even once.  I think people should be ok. We have gotten to such a state in our culture that some sort of camera/phone is practically surgically attached to our bodies. I’m ok with some things just being a memory in my mind.

What did you think of the porthole room? We are looking at booking the Ascent next year and are considering the port hole room since I wake up before the others and would like to sit on the balcony and read.

Our porthole room was wonderful!  We had room 8118 on Ascent. It was quiet, spacious, and the true balcony was small but wonderful!  I am not a Sun worshiper so being able to sit on the balcony in a shaded spot any time of day was an added bonus.

  19. The Eden signature cocktails are weird IMO and not worth the upcharge.  When we visit the Eden bar we order our tried and true go-to's...Makers and ginger ale for him and Grey Goose and soda with a splash of cran for me.  Call me boring but the strange concoctions in Eden just aren't for me.

  20. Just tell the truth.  If you can, name names of those who took care of you so they are not negatively impacted.  Celebrity brass should be able to separate out concerns that are corporate over those that are service related specific to an actual person on the ship.

Regarding food quality, I have to say that it has vastly improved over this time last year...IMO, of course.
