  1. WWC24 is the current promo. Just received the 24/25 WC brochure last week. Expires April 30, but will probably be extended.
  2. You can indeed spend all day at Bletchley. There is also a ham radio shack on the grounds.
  3. I seem to recall you have about 2+ hours of free time in Bruges. Here is a tip for Portsmouth. If you take the included tour, you can ask to be let off at the Historic Dockyards. IMO the Mary Rose exhibit is a must see, as is the tour of Nelson’s flagship Victory. The shuttle stop back to the ship is a short walk from the entrance.
  4. The Expedition ships also have wireless charging areas on the nightstands. Do any Viking Ocean ships have this yet?
  5. The new iPhone has a “fast” charger (more amps) so it uses a different plug on the charger side. Both chargers are compatible, but the old one takes longer to charge. The iPhone side is either lightning or USB-C. USB-C is the new standard and because of EU lawsuits, Apple is eliminating the lightning connector.
  6. FOMO and perceived premium value. Meanwhile on the Expedition ships, every night is lobster night.
  7. Cabins also have USB charging ports. Some tour buses also have USB outlets so bring a charging cable when you go on excursions.
  8. Here’s a tip for fixing the upside down orientation that occurs sometimes on CC photo uploads. If the picture appears wrong, open the photo on your phone, edit it with a rotation, save it, edit it again to the correct orientation, save again, then upload it again. This seems to correct the issue. Not sure why CC confuses the orientation. It might have something to do with the orientation of the camera when the picture was taken and the phone automatically corrects when viewing.
  9. 0 degrees is one reasons for the legend of falling off the edge of the earth. As you approach the equator going south, the North Star disappears and your astrolabe reaches its limit. Without your main way to navigate in the Northern Hemisphere, you were entering the unknown.
  10. There are typically a few special menus during a cruise where they have a theme, usually highlighting something related to the itinerary. There is always a special seafood theme but it’s not predictable. It is usually available in both the World Cafe and Restaurant. For the big end of cruise event, there is a party held on the pool deck.
  11. A clarification. Angora goats produce mohair, Angora wool is produced by rabbits.
  12. At the coop they go into detail about the weaving and show you how to tell that it is hand weaved. The Kurds use a double knot technique and you can observe the process. The weavers attend a state run school to learn the technique. All the rugs have slight flaws and no two are 100% identical but do follow traditional tribal patterns. The wool is all Turkish Angora goat and dyed with natural, traditional dyes. If you purchase one, they have you sign the back and take a picture to ensure what is delivered is the rug you bought. We also have some machine weaved rugs at home and the difference is obvious when you know what to look for.
  13. We visited the coop on our way back from Ephesus. The factory stores are literally across the street from the cruise terminal. Viking also provided a list of vendors that had been approved and included home delivery. We were told that the factory store employees do not work on commission. The government subsidizes the industry in order to train and employ the Kurds and keep the traditional hand weaving industry alive.
  14. During the demo the salesman explained the process of making that blue silk rug and how many hours it took to hand weave. He then asked “How much do you think it costs?” DW shouted “$70,000” to which the salesman said “If you pay that, I’ll personally deliver it to your house.” 😆
  15. Go to the coop demo on the Viking tour in Kuşadası. They put on quite a show and will do the convincing for you. Low pressure, good prices, and it’s delivered to your door.
  16. What a great itinerary. We went to Bletchley independently last summer. It was a great experience. Are you going by bus or train? The train station is literally across the road and is an easy place to visit. When in Greenwich, be sure to visit the Royal Observatory. There are two different free tours given daily with admission. The famous Harrison clocks are located there and one tour goes in depth about the history of their construction and the Longitude Prize.
  17. A Panoramic Half-Day Railway Journey 1) It’s offered in the morning and afternoon. Is one time preferable to another? 2) Which side of the train offers better views? 3) I thought I read on this forum that the trip is one way and you are bussed for part of the trip. Anyone know if this is true?
  18. Maybe this will help. 14 award winning Japanese wines: https://cluboenologique.com/review/best-japanese-wine/ @deec Will you be on the Far Eastern Horizons? Here is the role call:
  19. You are right. I never tried it on WiFi before. It doesn’t bridge. Good to know.
  20. I really enjoy river cruising and actually prefer it to ocean. You dock right in town, the scenery is gorgeous, and unlike some on this forum, I really enjoy the communal meals. I’ve met so many fascinating people during dinner. The pace is also different. It’s go, go, go, eat, sleep, repeat. We’ve never spent more than a couple of minutes on an ocean veranda but have spent hours on a river one, just watching the world pass by.
  21. Typically there is an app to interface with the router to log in and configure. Also, most new phones have a hot spot feature which allows you to connect another device so you may not need a router.
  22. Are you it’s not the nightcaps in the Explorer’s Lounge? 😉
  23. We did the same with a different promo and they moved our Oct 25 payment deadline for Far Eastern Horizons to April 25.
  24. Besides Iceland and Norway, it also includes the Faroe Islands. Just found 700 Danish Krone from our 2019 Copenhagen adventure. I envision a shopping spree for that port call.
