  1. We cruised on the Oosterdam back in May. We'd booked an inside guarantee. About a month before the sailing date, we received an upgrade offer. We snagged a balcony for a very reasonable price. Thus far, all we have received is the Club Orange offer, which costs more than what we paid for the Oosterdam upgrade and would probably only give us an oceanveiw. It doesn't seem worth it. Hopefully, the upgrade fairy will surprise us soon.
  2. Thanks for the tips. We love to dance, so we're usually not back in the cabin until after 11pm. Earplugs are already on the packing list. On a previous cruise, we saw a dancing couple with earplugs in, which I think is a genius idea. Bands can get too loud sometimes.
  3. My husband and I booked an inside guaranteed stateroom cabin on the Koningsdam, and we recently received our stateroom assignment. We are in cabin 1108. We noticed the Queen's Lounge is above us. I've read multiple Koningsdam reviews lamenting the noise from this venue, but all of those cabins were located on deck 4. Does anyone know about the noise issues on deck 1? I'm still crossing my fingers for an upgrade offer. The only thing we have received thus far concerns Club Orange, and we thought it was overpriced.
  4. My husband and I are taking a Holland America cruise next month. We'll be docked in St. Thomas on a Thursday from 8am to 5pm. We're considering a visit to Water Island. Does anyone have experience with this? Is the ferry within walking distance of the cruise ship terminal? What is offered on the island? I've read Honeymoon Beach is walkable from the Water Island ferry pier. Any other recommendations and/or advice? Thanks!
  5. My husband and I will be stopping in Grand Turk next month. I have read the cruise terminal is 3 miles from Cockburn Town. Getting a taxi at the terminal should be easy, but I want to know about taxi availability in Cockburn Town. Is it easy to get a taxi back to the cruise terminal? Also, about how much should a taxi cost us? Thanks!
  6. I have an upcoming cruise with HAL that departs out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. I have never used this port and have a few questions about embarkation. I plan to take Uber to the cruise terminal, and my Airbnb is about 5 miles from the port. How long should the drive take on a Sunday morning? Is there a security check when you enter the port area? Is there a place to directly drop off my luggage at the terminal? Thanks for the help!
  7. Thanks for the info!! I hope you had a great cruise!
  8. Is HAL still doing Happy Hour specials? Previously, there were drink specials during embarkation and each evening. A particularly good one was "Buy one, get one for $2."
  9. The short answer is no. The long answer is high swells prevented our ship from docking in Casablanca, so the port was changed to Tangier. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the excursion to Rabat. However, we did take an excursion with NCL in Tangier. It started out fine with stops at Cap Spartel (where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic) and a scenic spot with camel rides. The Caves of Hercules were overrated and crowded but still offered an open area to view the ocean. After that, everything went downhill. We visited the Kasbah and the Grand Souk. Our tour guide led us through all of this on foot, and an "assistant" showed up to help usher us around. Unlike our tour guide, this new helper did not wear anything official and never rode on the bus with us. Towards the end of the tour, my husband was briefly alone with him and felt pressured to tip him. The worst parts of this tour were the two shopping stops we made. We spent almost an hour in two different places, and I was itching to leave the entire time. For me, I enjoyed the natural beauty of Morocco, but I did not care for the pushiness of the market area. Also, NCL provided a warning for shore excursions in Morocco. Please see the attached for details. Do I regret taking an excursion in Tangier? No. I'm always open to new experiences, even if they don't go 100% smoothly. Do I plan to visit again? No. Once was enough for me.
  10. In December, my husband and I will have a port stop in Casablanca. We usually venture out on our own, but we are very unfamiliar with this area. Looking at the NCL excursions, the one entitled "Imperial Rabat & Casablanca Overview" appeals to us the most. It is 9 hours long. (The drive to Rabat is 1.5 hours one way.) In Rabat, we would see the Royal Palace, Chellah, Mohamed V Mausoleum, Kasbah of Oudaya, and the Andalusian Gardens. In Casablanca, there is a photo stop at the Hassan II Mosque and a stop at United Nations Square. Has anyone been on this excursion or one similar to it? Would you recommend it? Thanks!
