  1. If you didn't get a night time cruise, take one of them.
  2. Deleted...missed your last comment. 😉 Thanks.
  3. Well, I've played with this all day....finally figured it out! I can write it up in my Docs app, including pictures. Copy the text before the photo, then the photo, then continue with the text. I hope this works, we'll find out in Sept. 🙂 Got the e-tickets & e-docs the other day, my app is up and running...this is finally, after all the re-scheduling and cancellations going to happen!

  5. Help please... I am trying to get ready to do a "live" review of our up coming cruise and can't seem to figure out how to write it up, and then open the file here. I have Google Docs, but that seems to want me to download the file when I upload it, and I'm sure no-one will wish to do that. I have an iPad Air5, and will be using the Avalon Go app, but it saves a link to my notes. I'm not the best with 1 finger typing, so will appreciate having a file to upload. Anyone have ideas? I don't want the Office 365, as I purchased a licensed copy of Office just before they started that, so really don't need a 2nd subscription, which I would need to get if I d/l word on my tablet. Thanks.
  6. Sorry your trip ended the way it did, but glad that you had such a great CD. It always amazes me how much they go above and beyond in their “duties “, especially considering that they have all of the passengers to assist.
  7. Tirty tre sounds more like a take off of French trying English, even now, I have trouble saying my “h”’s. This would come out more like “dirty tre”, especially if I’ve had a few beers. 🙂

  9. Great review, we did our first cruise on the Rhine, Amsterdam to Basel. The only thing I regretted (and it was a time problem, as we were both working and couldn't get the extra time off) was we didn't do the Lucerne extension. As Roz says, Amsterdam is a great city to start, easy to do on your own with planning so you don't rush in to seeing "everything" We will be doing Budapest to Nuremburg next month on Avalon, with a couple extra days added on to go to Prague. Basically the same route you took, so I appreciated your thoughts.
  10. Love the 2CV's (or Deux CV (pronounced SayVay) here). I'll have to bookmark that idea for when we do a Paris cruise. I am putting that one off...DH would love to see Paris, I'm not a city lover. 🙂
  11. We will be boarding the Envision the day you disembark. Be nice to the crew for us, don't wear them out. 🙂 @anniecreebes, probably any line has just Bud - Vilshofen/Nuremburg cruises, you will probably end up with 1 day in Budapest with a tour included if you end your cruise there. If you know a TA who has river experience, they can probably help you find a line that suits your expectations. Sign up for the main lines e-mails (you'll get flooded, but you can always send them to junk once you find one you like) and you will get notified of any specials going on. Planning is 1/2 the fun, so enjoy.
  12. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. We will have to stop into that Church, it looks beautiful.
  13. Welcome! As Jazz says, Prague isn't on the river (Danube) for cruising, and his suggestion to fly in early (or stay a bit later) to see Prague is probably your best bet. If you would like to actually see more of Budapest, then I really would suggest a cruise that includes extended stays at both ends. Otherwise, you will be getting a short tour of the city, and then wander on your own with the ship leaving later that day (if you start in Budapest). We will be doing Avalon's Blue Danube Discovery in Sept with 2 nights in Budapest and 2 nights in Prague. Just from researching what to see in the two cities, I know we should have more time, but I'm worried that I will find them to overpowering (I'm not used to big cities) to spend much longer. Our travel will consist of about 20 hrs from leaving home to arriving in Budapest, so the 1st day is going to be very limited as to what we do. This is the cruise we will be doing, I really wanted to see Nuremburg, otherwise I would be ending at Vishofen as Jazz suggested. https://www.avalonwaterways.ca/river-cruise/the-blue-danube-discovery-with-2-nights-in-budapest-2-nights-in-prague/WBNY/?season=2023 May I suggest, if you haven't done a river cruise before, you read the stickies that Jazz posted at the top of the main page? Very helpful information there as to what to expect - tours, water levels, what is included or not etc. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions here. I know we haven't provided you with what you wish, but this is a friendly board, and most are very willing to help out.
  14. I agree, my 2nd Father is Swiss, and the German I am learning is very different from what he speaks. Mind you, my F-I-L and (Step) M-I-L were from towns about 20 miles apart, and I remember them saying they couldn't speak Dutch to each other because of the different dialects. She taught me a bit, I used to read her letters from the family when her eyes were bad and he was always telling us we were wrong with the words. 🙂 As for Quebecois, there is so much "slang" that is considered everyday ( oui being pronounced more like "way" than "we" , bonjour as "onn jour" instead of "bon joour") French, as well as the new words the Gov't. brought in because you can't use English words ("chein chaud" for "hot dog") that you basically can't call the two languages the same. Quebecois has stayed "old" while Parisienne French has evolved with time.
  15. Following along, we leave for our cruise in a month, and getting excited. We have an extension in Prague, so have been busy researching what to do. Have a great trip.
  16. A picture from when I was 1 1/2, he would be 3. We say we had an arranged marriage, figure our Mum's would have sat watching us play and planning our future. 🙂
  17. George Bernard Shaw - "England and America are two countries separated by the same language.". I tend to mix my English and French up in sentences, especially if I'm in an area where there are French signs (yes, we have them all over here). I also am getting German down a bit where it comes out occasionally. My husband just shakes his head, and nudges me if I get to confusing. 🙂
  18. No, but if we had had some I probably would have. Mind you, we look at what we did as kids and wonder sometimes how we survived. Both my husband & I grew up together, we've know each other all our lives. I joke he's well trained because I started early. 🙂
