I don’t see what’s wrong with saving seats in the theater as long as everyone shows up. Sometimes larger families have little kids that can’t show up an hour early to a show. Does that mean they should not be allowed to sit together? Sometimes these families can only all get together every few years. There are always two sides, a little emohathy goes a long ways!

They always want to save the best seats though. If family want to sit together, show up like everyone else.

Since you will get three vouchers each evening, you and your daughter can simply stop in to any bar and have a drink together. I think on most ships you can now use the vouchers during dinner.    I don’t know what ship you are sailing  but there are many many lovely areas around the ship to enjoy your daughter’s company.

BTW, a couple years ago  my grown daughter,  who was my cabin mate  met me in the concierge lounge.  (I honestly don’t recall how she got in the door). She was diamond at the time  and (I know this is not important) does not drink alcohol. It was the first day of the cruise, and I had run into some friends at the pool who said “meet us in the concierge lounge tonight”.    Without thinking, I said “sure”   We did not arrive at the lounge together.   When I got into the lounge my daughter was already seated and having a glass of water. I asked the  concierge  if she could stay  and mentioned that she does not drink alcohol.   The lounge was maybe 1/3 full.   The concierge, who is now a sought after Genie raised his voice and let everyone in the room know I was attempting to break the rules and  that under no uncertain terms was she allowed in the room.

We immediately left, and spent our time in the diamond lounge or around the ship.

I doubt I will ever ask again.

If your daughter was Diamond level why was there any problem with her using the lounge?

Shaded Lady, if you have time to read through the post (you're right, very long) you'll see there's a history of cruises after the Tom Joyner Charter being hours late with starting their embarking process. I can't speak to the exact reason for this, but from what I've read, most people attribute it to the stages, electronics, lights, and sound equipment from all the musical acts Tom Joyner has, which of course Carnival helped plan getting all that equipment on and off the ship.

sfaaa makes an excellent point, and what I've been saying all along.

All Carnival has to do is have a booking note on the April 5, 2020 sailing that embarkation will be delayed until 4pm and that all bookings will receive a $50 OBC.

That's a win-win for everyone. Thousands don't stand on the pier for hours, Carnival is honest with their customers, and the cruise sells out.

Why some folks on here think it's perfectly fine for all those people to stand on the pier for hours when Carnival knows this happens with this particular charter, is something I don't understand.

Exactly. Not knowing much about this situation I Googled and found complaints from multiple years about delays after this charter.

Miami does staggered check ins and have employed an enhanced process where the checkin process is smooth and you get your room keys outs your cabin door.If people follow the rules, it works like a charm and you are in and out.

Yes, I think they all do that now, but given the heat outside, why didn't they just open the doors and let a few hundred people sit inside?

We started to regret our decision not to get some pizza at the beach because it was now 4pm and we were starving!  We had yet to try Guy’s Burger Joint, and even though we knew it was dangerously close to our 6pm dinner time, we knew we couldn’t wait 2 more hours to eat.  Luckily, the line was really short at the grill and at the toppings bar, so we were seated at a table and ready to eat in no time.

I love that you can add your own toppings, with as much or as little of each as you like… let’s face it, the toppings are the best part!  In an effort to not completely ruin my appetite for dinner, I left the bun off and only ate the burger and toppings, and I shared my fries with DH.

After our not-so-light snack, we went back to the cabin to get ready for dinner.  By 5pm, I felt exhausted and needed to lie down for a while to regain some energy.  I guess all that fun in the sun got to me because I was really tired.  We turned on the TV to catch up on the news, and finally gathered up enough energy to go upstairs for dinner right around 6pm.  When we arrived, Prudence’s section was nearly deserted.  All aboard time was at 5:30pm today, so maybe people didn’t have enough time to get ready for the early dining time?  Or maybe they all just wanted to eat at Lido instead?

Yes, I did read all the replies but I am basing my response on what RC told me. They mentioned none of what you are speculating. They said they didn't know which day. They said it over and over again. All I am saying is that we should be willing to continue to look into this. Nothing wrong with that idea.

I was thinking maybe you could get the exact date that RCCL was notified by the USCG via the FOIA?

You can submit a request online AFAIK.

Just to settle your mind as to whether you are being lied to or not.....

  7. Am I really the only person who thinks this search is no big deal? I am one of those folks who stand back and say "Search away, I have nothing to hide".  I don't care that I get taken aside and patted down wherever I go, airports, govt buildings, I figure it is all designed to make me safer. As far as standing in the hall in a robe! Quelle horreur! I wear much less than that when I go up to the pool.

Yes, it is.  The Captain of the Allure was found to be completely vindicated for his decision to sail into the storm off the East coast by following RCI's ISM procedures, and RCI decided to revise their ISM policies, but the Captain was a few months later quietly transferred to another ship.  I think it was a HAL ship that had an incident entering Alexandria a few years back, where the Captain was again vindicated, but ended up retiring due to the poor press from the incident.

FWIW -  When the Captain and Chief Engineer came out to talk to pax on Sun am  they were given a standing ovation.

  9. Majesty of the Seas 2003. I took my grandsons, then ages 14 and 10. The oldest sulked all the way down to Miami, he didn't want to go because " it will be SO boring!"   Fast forward 5 days and he was in tears when we had to leave to come home,he had such a good time..... he asked " when can we come again?"   We're still sailing.
