  1. So for me specifically I will be sailing on the allure in oct. Last I heard the escape room, Lazer tag, ice skating were still in hiatus. I am not sure the allure ever had dinner theatre, but what else on what ships is yet to come back. In terms of places, events or activities..... Oh I just thought of the new years eve type party in the main area (can't think of what that's called ) . Thanks in advance.
  2. I would have to look at my numbers to see. The worst room I ever had, I picked. Our first balcony and the room was incredible. Corner on the liberty. The only reason it was bad was due to smokers. I truly wish we could pick smoke free cruises. Anyway we couldn't open the door because of the influx of smoke coming from anyone up the line that was smoking. We are generally easy going enough. Roll with it. The only other issue I recall ever having was the first cruise we took the kids. 4 of us in the room and it was on an old carnival ship and the ac wasnt doing well. We called a few times and at some point they got it working. Just being overly informational.
  3. It's funny, because it doesn't exist anymore. I love hoa's and mods. Just what we need law and order. Keeps everything so clean. Keep up the noble work.
  4. Mum2 I am not sure if Google wallet has the same feature, just switched from years of Samsung to a pixel phone and all isn't set up yet, but there are several upc apps in Google play. Like the 1s you use to identify items to buy from the box. Maybe even things like Google lens. What you need is something to translate the upc. Like a analog version of the qr codes. The bar code is literally just a universal number decoding system. Once you have the number, your room should be the last set ( not sure how they do 3,4 or 5 digit codes.
  5. I assumed so. I wonder if a ta could see it or if I asked for that room, would it be available.
  6. when its just me and my wife, we plan ahead and book a room i know or research. generally when we have done the gty its because we were doing the whole family and cost becomes a greater issue. I would rather take more vacations and do more on those vacations then pick a room. not that those are exclusive.
  7. also now that I though of it, if it still says gty and you do the room number thing and call cs will they tell you the room? If they hold back I wonder if its because it still may get changed? Anyone ever do the room trick and get a different room. I remember a few years ago, not sure which cruise line, but they didnt get a room assignment and when aboard given a room, only to find someone else in the room, only to find out the ship was full and had to exit the ship. or something like that.
  8. yes, someone pointed that out. i guess 24 days for that. Even though this question cam about as a result of my lack of room assignment, I still just like knowing stuff. ty
  9. I remember years ago using various online booking sites you could look up rooms and they would show different rooms available. I also enjoyed ***** for the information it could provide.
  10. I tried to hedge that off in the op. I 100% know and understand the risk and reason for going gty. Like many things in life choices and what they are. That doesnt mean it has to end there. Rarely does my brain relax. All my life, I have tried to look into and answer questions about things in all aspects. This is no exception.
  11. Hw do we know that? is that all a marketing ploy? Does that start at the beginning? So if I went to book the day the ship opened up would I have access to every room? when would that end? I assume they block off rooms everytime a gty is purchased, but sometimes knowingly push people up or expect some movement thru royal up.
  12. So I am sure I am not alone in overthinking things. with a huge 69 days until sailing, I am hoping to get my assignment at some point. None of this gets me any closer but I like information so some questions. First question, does the available rooms listed, the actual available rooms onboard? So if I log in and look over all categories that are available and lets say I add up 15 neighborhood balconies across all floors, do we think thats all the empty rooms? I guess the question is, if yes, how do they account for the gty peeps? Do they do that by holding back certain rooms? better rooms shown in hopes of selling those? when they switch to only they pick, what threshold have they crossed in terms of available? I get there is a hierarchy of rooms represented in room category, crown and anchor and etc, and in a perfect world the formula to upgrade or move people around was predictable, and maybe it is. I can visualize how royal up works, but how does that effect the gty catagories. I assume this is why I could be left roomless until I get onboard and I know none of this matters. I am retired and at times for health reasons not very mobile, so I got all the time in the world to take these things to far, but I know I am not alone. Thanks in advance. We dont always by gty, mostly we may start there, but during the approach we lock in a room at a lower rate. because of covid, my health and many other factors, we took a break from vacation and cruising. We kind of jumped back quickly. Almost booked a christmas cruise with friends on carnival, but that cruise would have been 3x the cost. I would rather the 3 cruises.
  13. the only good part for me so far, is that since booking in june for my upcoming 10-1 cruise I was able to get a small reduction and cheap upgrade from inside gty to neighbrhood xn. since that the prices have gone up a little.
  14. hey, thats my cruise and.... my cabin..........jk but maybe not. I booked a gty xn. not that its unheard of but I was hoping to get an assignment already. 74 or so days out. I guess its situations like this that they hold back. Oh well, seems like my ship just got a bit fuller now that they cancelled.
  15. Your right, out of all i typed, thats the most relevant part. That I admitted that I arrive early and if allowed I enter. I that really my fault at that point? I guess your right I have all the control. Look clearly you drive under the speed limit at all times. and Yes the cruise companies are smart enough to realize nothing will go to plan, even under the most ideal situations. However because people will arrive early and late and mostly on time, in the end the ship gets loaded and people get to enjoy. I am glad you are here to keep us honest.
  16. the goal of the cruise company is to stagger the arrival of the passengers. Regardless of the ship, company or port. If everyone showed up at the same time it would delay the ship. Then there are ways for them to market a vip experience. Whether thats an extra cost to all passengers like keys or faster to fun, or an elite status for cruising or the type of room. Now we all have our reasons and even under the best scenario timing is difficult to account for. NOBODY wants to wait around for minutes or hours to board the vacation they spent a fortune on and stare at the ship while others either violate the rules or had better timing that day. I like rules and I like the rules to apply to all, but I don't like following the rules to be the only one sitting there while other get thru. I have and will admit, I push my limits in this regard. I am ocd on vacation and annoy my family to the extreme because I get antsy and want to gogogogogogo. So regardless of my time, I WILL be early. If early I will wait, but would greatly appreciate an quicker start past my hated wait time, and much more enjoyable vacation time. I will not be pushy or sneaky about it, but will take advantage of any part of the vip experience I cant afford at this time.
  17. Me included, but maybe we just let those that have cruised out of fort lauderdale answer the question in the op. I cant remmeber my experiences from the 2 different rcl cruises I took. I have even been out of that terminal unless its changed since 2017. I am going in oct so I am interested as well. I usually try to be one of those who gets on asap. mostly like most of us on this forum.
  18. unless i get a big discount, i dont think the refresh package is worth it. I dont drink alcohol so the full 1 is out too. For me the card, is the most convenient way to get better coffee on occasion. I can drink the regular coffee provided and yes often from location to location or even machine to machine it varies. If I am only getting coffee, want a more then coffee drink or want something fancy with a meal, the card is the best. If fresh juice or mocktails or I thought i needed 5-8 specialty drinks a day i would get the refreshment package. I also dont drink soda. I do however really like coffee. I used to drink gas station coffee or kcups. I have since upraded to expensive specialty coffee, I buy freshly rosted, grind if fresh and use a scale to measure weight of coffee and water boiled to specific temp and manually poured over using 1 of several methods. I also hate starbucks coffee. I do drink there esspresso based coffee, mainly blonde roast. But the regular stuff is over roasted. I actullly had a card from the symphony with 5-6 punchs left. It was from 2019 and I just thru it out about 3 months ago. Oh well. that cruise was just after the double punching started. It was mixed, some places punched 2x, some once and sometimes not at all. All this for the nectar of life. HMMMMM
  19. I would also consider what space is important to you and ask that way. The room of usov is probably bigger then most any room not a suite. maybe on certain ships they have a fmaily labeled room or maybe if you get an odd corner. But maybe a balcony room is smaller inside with extra space outside. Maybe the bathrooms can be compaired 1 way or the other. We are a family of 4 and have moved from inside guarantee to outside neghbrhood gty on allure. There is a difference in room configuration and room size for the 2. Mostly. We have cruised before in this format and although not ideal, we make it work. Like living in a tiny house. The balcony just gives us a separate area for people to sit maybe while others sleep. I would say most improvements, if any, above usov would be nominal, until you get to a suite. https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/mariner-of-the-seas-274/ultra-spacious-ocean-view-cabin-417830/ultra-spacious-ocean-view-cabin--v18597936/ here is a link to the room. And according to this, https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/Mariner-of-the-Seas the usov is bigger then the js, not including the balcony.
  20. ty, yes I wasnt expecting a kona experience.
  21. we still have 82 days and although I am sure its not 100 full, i dont think its close to 50. I had better luck on the lesser full ships. I am sure it will get pretty full. we tried to go in October in hopes of it beings as less crowded as we could. my son will be in college and my daughter goes to an all year round school and is off that week. i will play whatever royal up games i can when it comes. ty all
  22. if you royal up'ed how much per person was it to move? I wonder how having 4 people in a room effect the cost of the upgrade. is it total cost? I am asking from the rcl or 3rd party standpoint. meaning if its 1000$ was that 250 per person or if it was 2 people would it still be 1000.
  23. its not on the vacation receipt. which I got after final payment.
