  1. A beautiful SW Michigan sunrise today. Rain on the way tomorrow.
  2. Good Monday morning everyone! Sad day with the passing of our former first lady Rosalyn Carter. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports @richwmn. No runners to hug, The other two days are important. Thanks for the definition of sitting on the bayonet @0106. Napolean movie opens tomorrow. An important day in history when the AIDS outbreak was recognized as a world wide problem. The meal sounds like a winner, the drink too fussy but today's vino sounds wonderful. We love SB here. Prayers for everyone on our care list. I pray that our group is getting some relief from their pain. Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, Israel and the innocents in Gaza. Prayers that the hostages can be released. @RMLincoln thanks for the update on your progress settling into your new home. John must be getting excited about our upcoming cruise, he has just brought his three suitcases upstairs. We drive so we can pack as much as we can haul. He started the day saying we should get ready and go to Costco when they open to get my Christmas present. I asked him why he thought I went to Walmart at 8:30 on Friday to shop for Thanksgiving. We aren't going to face that stampede. I did get a beautiful sunrise photo this morning, I got it and went back to bed to watch the new until 8am. Lots of house cleaning for company here on Thursday. We are only having four guests. Have a nice Monday! Nancy
  3. Good morning everyone, thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. A great group of days, all well worth celebrating. A wonderful quote by Hagen and a great day in history of the US. I truly enjoyed David McCullough's book on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Thanks Sandi for sharing Lenda's beautiful photos of today's port. The baked Ziti recipes look yummy, the cocktail looks like a good one for today's Lion's game. I think today's Grenache based wine will be a good one. Thanks @dfish, @summer slope and @cat shepard for finding these for us each day Prayers for everyone going through health issues especially so many orthopedic issues. Prayers for your pain to go away. I read that Annie is going to get oxygen which is excellent, now she needs to help Cuck out too. Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, Israel and the innocents in Gaza. I pray that the hostages can be released soon. @RMLincoln I am happy to read that you are beginning to get unpacked and settled. It is another beautiful day here. Our drive through the country was fun and we stopped in a town near our favorite winery for Mexican and it was meh, although the place was pretty inside, more like a pub than a Mexican restaurant. Then our favorite winery Modales was closed for a private event so we went and had a couple of Maker's Mark at our local Moose lodge and watched the Michigan Maryland game for a while. It was rather a disappointing day of college football as most games were blowouts early until Maryland tried to get close to Michigan and then OK started to pull away from BYU. So I switched to horseracing for a while. Today I will finish the stock I made, cook raspberries for our pie and maybe get my pie crust made too. Of course football to, so happy not to have to travel to watch our games this week. Have a lovely Sunday! Nancy
  4. Good morning everyone. A beautiful chilly morning here in SW Michigan. Thanks for the daily and Fleet Reports each day. Cider is out of season now so I will pass and the other two do little for me. Today's quote by O'Henry is perfect for people returning to their decorated homes. First thing I do at dusk is light the blue lights and swans out front. St. Peter's Cathedral is a beautiful place. I have had butter chicken in the Lido before, yummy. I will pass on the cocktail but today's wine sounds lovely. Ann I will try to email you some suggestions for the future maybe later today, we are heading on a road trip. Prayers for Vanessa @JazzyV. I hope you have been able to get some decent sleep. @smitty34877 thanks for you sharing your journey after the passing of your DH, I am glad yesterday was better. Continued prayers for Tana. Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Israel, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza. Prayer for the families of the hostages, more being found dead now, just tragic. @Cruise Suzy Bon Voyage! 🍾 We are going on a nice long drive in the shiny sunny day pickup today. It is beautiful but cold. Lots of prep work completed yesterday for Thanksgiving so that it a relief. Have a lovely Saturday! Nancy
  5. Good morning everyone. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. No hiking today as it is blustery and rainy. I will work on my Lake Superior State University scholarship as soon as I am done here to celebrate Student's Day and Baklava is delicious but hard to find around here. The quote is perfect for someone who ended his life by suicide. I will pass on the mac and cheese, the drink looks like a great one for the HIA package cocktail and I will pass on the wine. Instead I will finish my bottle of Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir Tualatin Estate with ribs tonight. Thanks for the lovely photos of today's port everyone. @seagarsmoker I am saddened to read of your layoff. I agree with @grapau27 wise advice. @JazzyV continued prayers for you and you can get some relief from your pain. @smitty34877 praying for Tana and that her situation remains stable. Prayers for everyone on our care list, the innocents facing the horrors of war, Ukraine, Israel and the innocents in Gaza. Prayers for the hostages in Gaza. I am late again this morning as I decided to wrap up our Thanksgiving shopping this morning walking into Walmart at 8:30. The only congestion was the "personal" shoppers for pick up at the store. I am glad I gave up on that when Covid waned and when I was fully vaccinated. Glad that is behind us for the most part. John seems to have Thanksgiving dinner under control other than cranberries, sweet potatoes and pie are my job. I decided to make some throwback appetizers, 7 layer dip, cream cheese stacks and kettle chips with whipped cream cheese and smoked salmon. All things that put no pressure on the ovens and that we can enjoy at 1pm kickoff. Speaking of football the Ravens won handily last night. Now we have a 10 day break and then a bye the following week, perfect timing for a beat up Ravens team. Have a lovely Friday! Nancy
  6. @aliaschief I agree that Hubbard is superior. It does require some prework. It is readily available here. @arzz Bon Voyage! 🍾
  7. The comment on Jose's bursary got me thinking of my scholarship project for the Michigan Garden Clubs. I had not heard from my two contacts and the applications are due December 4th so I sent a reminder on Monday. These are $1500 scholarships, not piddly. One contact got back to me she had sent an email and had heard nothing. I said perhaps the students that need the money work so maybe they don't have time to study, why don't you ask department heads or colleagues if they know a needy student. The other I heard nothing from so I called her yesterday and she said she isn't doing it anymore. Another email sent and a follow up call going out tomorrow. I hope that we can get these $4000 worth of scholarships awarded.
  8. When my late DH had both knees replaced at once he had to rely on Extra Strength Tylenol since he couldn't tolerate narcotics. He said he could feel that they helped. Maybe his massive pain tolerance was why he didn't seek treatment for his terrible meningitis headaches.
  9. Do you have a pulse ox? They are pretty cheap on Amazon and unless you wear nail polish the low costs ones work great. I have bad asthma so that gadget is part of my kit I bring on cruises, in addition to a thermometer and Covid tests. I pray you can get some treatment.
  10. Lovely! Thanks for sharing this Jacqui, not only the words but the lovely photos of Jose.
  11. Good morning, I agree with @ger_77 and a previous poster that Jacqui please post Jose's bursary here on the Daily. Good morning everyone and thanks for the daily reports @richwmn. I used to play the clarinet, I wasn't proficient playing it. When I lived in Baltimore our Principal Clarinetist for the BSO was fabulous. Every day should be tolerance day, the world would be such a better place for more tolerance. Thank God the days of getting clothing with those extra buttons are over with once I retired and mainly live in casual wear. That quote by Fulghrum needs a lot of contemplation, haven't had enough coffee yet. Thanks to HA I have visited a lot of UNSECO heritage sites. Thanks for the Cares and celebrations reports @JazzyV, I hope you are feeling better today and had some good sleep last night. @Denise TI am glad they have your medications straightened out with your new doctor. It sounds like this one is more on the ball. @RMLincoln I hope you and DH made it north of Baltimore yesterday and will be on your way to your new home today. Prayers for Baby Murphy to continue to make gains. Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, Israel and the innocents in Gaza. Another beautiful sunrise today. I have become such a night owl that I am awake to see it but not awake enough to run outside to get a photo to share. Today is probably our last warm day for a long time, with snow in the forecast for Tuesday. Thankfully we have everything in the house we need for our Thanksgiving dinner when part of my family will come over for dinner. I have a garden club meeting tonight and I am hostessing, meaning I bring food with several other ladies and clean up afterwards. I may prevail upon them for the cleanup because the Ravens are on Thursday Night Football and kickoff is at 8:15. I am also trying to get a badly needed hair trim this morning. Have a lovely day! Nancy
  12. @smitty34877 thanks for sharing the lovely photo of you and your DD DH. Happy memory. @Niagarawine Welcome to the Daily! Thanks everyone for the lovely photos for today's port, so many things to see.
  13. Good morning everyone. Thanks for the Daily Reports Rich. We recycle everyday. We have a large rolling bin outside our back door in the garage and everything that can go in goes in. Our sevice is only monthly so it is really heavy when we roll it out to the curb. My sister makes the best filled carrot Bundt cake and made one for my birthday last year. I cleaned out the fridge yesterday as it was trash pickup day. A great quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. Thanks for all the photos of today's port in Iceland, someday we will pull ourselves away from the cabin in the summer to take the VOV. I think I will pass on the Ramen, the sweet daiquiri and the unavailable wine. Prayers for everyone on our care list especially @marshhawk. Thinking of you today @RMLincoln as you take your last glances at your MD home and head north towards NJ. Prayers for all in war zones Israel, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza. Continued prayers for the hostages. @Jazzy I hope you got a better night's sleep. Another beautiful fall day here with a gorgeous sunrise and temperature above freezing. All my fall outside work is done and that is a wonderful feeling. Yesterday I wrapped all of the Christmas presents I have to wrap and I called the company that is making a custom lake map for John's Christmas present. I ordered it on August 29 and still hasn't arrived. I told them I am calling my cc company and cancelling it next week if I don't have a tracking number. I will work on organizing the Christmas stuff I pulled out for take down and for next year. We will definitely be decorating in full in 2024. Our neighbors just walked out of the woods dragging the deer they shot in the common area that enters next to our house. It is first day of firearm deer season. Fewer deer, basically all pesky squirrels have vanished in addition to the fat raccoon and possums. I think someone has to be poisoning them because raccoons are hard to shoot without hounds. Have a lovely day! Nancy
  14. I have really enjoyed reading along, especially your photos of Antarctica. During our January GSA on the Volendam the seas were such that we couldn't visit Elephant Island but we were able to sail close to Deception Island instead. You were fortunate to have sun to enjoy so much more. Our crew would have gone crazy to see all the snow you had.
  15. Apologies to @kazu for missing you gave us the history on Seneca.
  16. Well it is good afternoon. We went to Walmart for more than groceries, Tractor Supply and the Secretary of State Office. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. It is great to have days to celebrate girls and children and I love pickles so happy they have their day. A great day for desserts when Borden's condensed milk was developed. A good quote today from Seneca and thanks for the explanation @StLouisCruisers. I haven't been to today's port. Thanks for the drink, wine and meal research for us each day. Today's meal looks yummy, pass on the cocktail and today's wine looks good, would go great with the potatoes and ham. Prayers for everyone on our care lists. @JazzyV continued prayers for a successful treatment and outcome for your leg pain and numbness. @marshhawk I hope that you are recovering from your severe illness on your cruise. Thinking of you today @RMLincoln as you go through your moving process. Prayers for everyone in war zones, Israel, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza. Prayers for the hostages. Time to get caught up around the house. It is an absolutely beautiful November day here. Have a nice day! Nancy
  17. My favorite waiter and Facebook friend Aframe Remulla posted a photo on his story and when I saw it I knew it had to be the seafood timbale. He is on the Eurodam currently. Looked really tasty.
  18. @marshhawk oh my! I am so sorry to read about your illness and the bad experience in Carnival though I enjoyed your cartoon representation of Carnival guests, we thought the same when we were in port with them in St. Kitts. Prayers for healing. Were you at sea in the Atlantic when you fell sick? We were friends with a couple on the Volendam who were regulars at the Ocean Bar. I knew Betty had been struggling as she was carrying her portable oxygen concentrator. Then they disappeared. HA kicked them off the ship in our first port in Brazil as her COPD decompensated. We found they were there for two weeks for her to stabilize before they could fly home to the US. A ratty port to be kicked off so at least you could remain onboard. We heard the infirmary was better than the hospital she was taken to off ship. Another passenger broke her hip and also spent a month at that hospital. So sorry about Chuck's wakeup call by your cat. @durangoscots I am sorry you had to deal with the cat hoarding situation with most of the cats dead. @Cruising-along we went through the same dilemma with our luggage forward bags for the Grand SA. I did pack my double zip locked sunscreen in the shipped bags in addition to my supplements and OTC meds. We weren't challenged and they were shipped to our cabin. @cruising sister thanks for sharing the wonderful news about Baby Murphy being held finally by her DGM. Thanks for all the beautiful photos of today's port.
  19. Good morning everyone! Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. No musicians in this house or in my family to hug. No on Papusas and Sadie Hawkins Day was celebrated when we were in high school. Intelligence took us this far so I don't know what to think about Clarke's quote. Thanks for the lovely photos of today's port @StLouisCruisers and @Quartzsite Cruiser. I will pass on the meal and the cocktail but the wine looks good. Thanks for researching these for us each day, @summer slope, @cat shepard and @dfish. Thanks for keeping our care and celebrations reports for us @JazzyV. I am so sad to read that your leg pain continues and it ruins your sleep. Prayers for some relief for you. @marshhawk I hope you are on the mend from whatever afflicted you on your cruise. @RMLincoln Prayers for some relief for your muscle spasms and for a seamless move to your new home in NJ. Prayers for everyone in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, Israel and the innocents in Gaza. Prayers that they can get the hostages found and returned to their homes. I was sad that the Ravens collapsed in their game but on the next screen was John's Vikings game and they made it 5 in a row with their replacement QB Josh Dobbs. I am moving all the plants for next year's plant sale behind the garage today. It has dried out and is very sunny. Have a lovely Monday! Nancy
  20. Thanks for sharing your photos. We were just there in January and February this year. I love all the sunlight you had. We had very little sunlight from when we left Peru until we got to Puerto Madryn. We will go back next time it is offered in the winter (GSA).
  21. @StLouisCruisers Happy birthday to your DS! Good Sunday morning everyone. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports Rich. Perhaps I will have French Dip for lunch today at the casino. Pneumonia is serious, I still remember how I reacted to my Prevnar shot with a painful, red and swollen arm. No Happy Hour for us today. Full prices all the way in the sports book. A wacky quote by Mel Brooks. Both of today's drinks are good in my book and I will wait for judgement on the meal. I have not been to today's port. Thanks for the cares and celebrations reports @JazzyV. Congratulations to @aliaschief for booking that wonderful Ring of Fire cruise. Prayers for everyone on our care list. Thinking of you today @RMLincoln as you are winding down in your Maryland home. I hope that all your final work goes smoothly. Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Israel, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza. We had a short snow squall this morning while I was still lounging in bed but might get to 50 today with 4 more days with sun and 50s through Thursday. I like weeks like we have coming up, nothing on the calendar other than an evening garden club on Thursday. Maybe another movie, we really liked The Killers of the Flower Moon. John will probably win the pick this time with the Marvels. Maybe I can have popcorn next time. Have a lovely day! Go Ravens! Nancy
