There was none a couple of weeks ago but we did Uber to hotel from hobby in 45 mins , about 60 mins on following Sunday to hobby.

Issues are Totally circumstantial to nature of the construction tasks that day . Most days there is no problem with three lanes open each way In bound and outbound .

The Tremont cost $700 per night for that weekend. From what I read, they actually fence off an entertainment area that goes from 20th to 25th, on Strand and Mechanic Streets. No cars allowed in that area for the whole weekend .It appears that balconies at the Tremont are highly desired and possibly some charging spectators to use. I do not know how parking and coming and going would be. Is my car trapped in? You might want to actually call the motel directly with  questions like that.  Do you only have that one night?  I fall into your category of age, I know what you mean. But one night there during the Mardi Gras  might fun if you have a balcony.

There are no balconies at Tremont .

All parking is Valet that second  weekend and half a block away and easy access .

    No issues with cars .

Yes the Tremont on Saturday night has a wonderful party, with entire area fenced in for private party in hotel , in street for special private viewing of parades and in Ballroom  across street .

I booked a room eons ago for the night of Friday February 9 at the Tremont House Hotel. Didn't think about Mardi Gras. Looks like the Tremont is right on the parade route. Are we going to get blocked in there, and face a super noisy night? On the one hand, might be tons of fun!!! On the other hand, we're not in our twenties any more 🙂  (Plus I got a really good deal booking Tremont on Bonvoy points a long time ago.)

    Consider yourself lucky .

You are definitely a good source of information about Galveston. I will be there the Saturday night of the main parade. Any tips for watching the parade. We are not interested in paying and watching in the entertainment fenced area (those days are gone). I am hoping to just park somewhere  and sit in lounge chairs along a residential street (25th) on the parade route from the seawall to Strand or something like that. Is that possible and any advice or experience.  What do you think the restaurants will be like that weekend

Yes the motel prices are up the weekend we are there. The Tremont hotel wants $705.00 per night and the San Luis resort wants $469.00.

I could not private , so sorry if a may be getting off the original question.

Which weekend of Mardi Gras are you in Galveston ?

We stayed at the airport marriott on our last cruise.  Worked so well wife insisted on staying there again this time.  Room rates right at $200 plus taxes.  Best thing about this hotel is it's location. It's in the airport.  The airport tram stops every few minutes at each baggage claim and at the hotel.  No charge.  You don't have to fret getting a shuttle from/to airport.

Restaurant in hotel.  Expensive but you can get delivery.

Not a lot of shopping outside airport security but there is always uber.

Don't expect to find a hotel that will provide a free shuttle to the port since it's about an hour+ drive.  A number of shuttle companies will pick you up at the marriott and take you to the port for maybe $40 PP.  Some will pick you up at other hotels but some will charge you another $50 for the extra stop. Or, you can arrange a cruise line shuttle too which will be more expensive.  Will pick you up at the airport.

We liked the marriott since we didn't have to shuttle from the airport to a hotel and then shuttle from the hotel back to the airport.  use google to find shuttles.

Very safe since you never leave the airport/hotel.

Would these road closures mean more traffic on those roads used by the cruising public?

Impacts on hotel prices and restaurant availability?

How about Uber availability and pricing?

I'm just glad I've already booked a private car transfer.

    No to road closures  .

That's all relative to affordability.  And booking everything smart and early as you did .

Ubers could be affected but probably not

Glad you have  booked everything smart and early as you did .

  7. 14th , 33rd and Harborside, the main routes used by  cruising folks are not used by Mardi Gras crowds . Besides those routes are mandatory OPEN for the main emergency vehicular  routes for hospital emergency room care .  And the parades are later than the times , most of you want on ships first .  Don't let Mardi Gras discourage you .  Proceed as usual .

Looking at two flights departing Bush Airport (IAH) on 9 Feb following Prima cruise from Galveston. Cruise arrives on a Friday.

One flight leaves Bush at 12:12

One flight leaves Bush at 14:05.

    Cost difference is minimal.

One arrives home at 1700, the other at 1900.

Do not want to leave through Hobby.

Private car pickup at port at 0900.

The earlier flight is intriguing but the later flight gives more time if something goes wrong, ie., late arrival at port or traffic issues.

It's been 10 years since cruised out of Galveston.

    Your thoughts.

    Either one

    Exactly

At one time status was determined by the number of cruises, so each cruise taken (no mater how many days the cruise was) counted as one point.

When Royal Caribbean started counting points based on the number of cruise days, they converted each past cruise by giving them 7 points each. Many retired people that have taken many inexpensive 3 or 4 days cruises on the older ships (Sovereign, Monarch etc) suddenly had a big increase in Crown and Anchor status when those 3 and 4 day cruises got 7 points each.

BTW: Many of those 3 or 4 day’s cruises sometimes cost as low as $99.00 per person

So when a cruiser today earns Pinnacle ,

it’s can be monumental. Congratulations to the current Pinnacles .

Reaching Pinnacle is a lot more difficult for those of us who don't live in Florida.  I would like to know what percentage of Pinnacles live in Florida and don't have the added expense of significant travel.

Lots of Pinnacles flourishing in Florida from  the early old days points system used by Royal and favoring quick points accumulation , and from the earlier utilization of the cruising ready retirement marketplace in Florida .
