This would be perfect. I do think we were thinking of booking the cruise line shuttle.
What is around for breakfast at this hotel?

No one can predict the weather, but what is it generally like in Galveston in January. Can't decide if we should stay on the island and walk around the sea wall area, or if it will be too cold and should just stay in Texas City. We have never been to Galveston, usually cruise out of Florida ports.

We love the doubletree nice bar and restaurant, pretty sure there is a pool , if we stay by hobby this is our hotel. I believe there is a free shuttle from airport.
If they want cruise line shuttle this is as good as it gets .

There are many economy motels between 61st and inside the causeway and on the island. You will be there already the next morning and can enjoy the many island highlights the night before cruising .

We will be staying 1 ½ days at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort before our Harmony cruise in April. Are taxi’s, Uber & Lyft readily available to help us get around to restaurants, downtown some other places that we can’t walk to. Slight mobility issues make it difficult for us to walk more than a couple of blocks.
I did look into renting a golf cart for the day but not sure that is a good idea does anyone have any experience with that? Traffic, parking etc?
I did see there is a bus or trolley that runs the seawall but also not sure if we would want to be standing around waiting for it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hotel has had limo bus to transport folks around island . Holiday inn, San Luis and Hilton are owned by same and participate in the bus.

Galveston is a lovely island. As soon as we returned from our last Prima cruise, we booked another out of Galveston and will spend two nights there prior to cruise.
If your flight will arrive in Houston early, staying on the island is a wonderful way to start your vacation. If your flight arrives later in the day, staying at airport hotel might be a better idea. We found that the hardest part to figure out was how to get from Houston to Galveston. If you read about it, you will see mentions of heavy traffic and constant ongoing construction. The time of day and day of week you arrive will play into the potential of increased travel time to the island. We booked a private shuttle (again) will Galveston Saltwater Moms. There are many other shuttle services available too.
For our upcoming 2nd cruise from Galveston, we bypassed a direct flight into IAH that arrived later in the day and chose a connecting flight that arrives earlier in day at the smaller (and closer to island) Hobby airport. That way, we will get to spend maximum time in Galveston prior to cruise. It really depends on what type of flights you are looking at. Travel from IAH will take longer as it is on the far side of the very busy Houston area.
We found lots of good advice regarding hotels and shuttles on cruise critics Gulf Coast Departures board:

Do you mean they were full, not that BOGO wasn’t allowed?
They were claiming full in almost all specialty restaurants until end of week , and BOGOS were not allowed to anyone on this cruise . Circumstantially too much demand. The BOGO benefit was taken away for this cruise, even though the Presidents Cruise was rewarding loyalty . RCL sucked some more money out of back pocket .

Was this officially announced?
If there was room for someone to make a reservation how could they deny the coupon on the setsail pass?
No not that we were aware of . It was even more a surprise to ones taking our reservations. Communications about anything and everything were not good on this cruise . As were evidenced by boos at Q&A session with Michael Bailey in full house theater . Boos were at public relations officer from Miami not Michael Bailey .

Not only that but I read of some who had the UDP and ended up cancelling as they couldn't even get ANY reservations at the specialty restaurants
Yes we were on cruise . Many high ranking C&A's causing the problem. Supply and demand . We were very fortunate and were able to celebrate wife's birthday in 150 first night with friends . . .
