The rooms are not bigger. Same size. Balcony will actually be 10 square foot smaller.

I love that location of the Cove Balconies but I can live with the galley noise from above. If you cannot then it is a good trade.

I believe the regular balcony rooms are 220 square ft + the balcony whereas the cove is 185 in room space

+ 35 ft for the balcony. This is because the coves are actually a part of the room size whereas regular balconies are extra overhanging area.

  2. The upgrade genie emailed me (every cruise I get upgrade offer) and offered me an upgrade for my two rooms. Details are below. Please let me know your thoughts on this deal.

    Ship  - Carnival Magic

6 passengers with three in each room

Original Rooms - 2437 and 2439 (connecting cove balconies)

New rooms -  8379 and 8383 (Side by side regular balconies that has a divider that can open)

Increase only $46 for each room which nothing has to be paid at this time. Still kept my onboard credits.

I grabbed the offer based on :

    1. The rooms are a little bigger

    2. I read a few negative comments about my previous rooms about noise non-stop from above and also of sewer-like smell in that location. The new rooms only has rooms above and rooms below.

    3. Balcony divider can be moved to make a larger balcony

    Downfall

    1. Being close to the water

    2. No longer adjoining rooms

    3. Not a big deal but a $92 increase for both rooms

Do you guys think this was a good change or should I have kept my original rooms? (based on your own experience of course).

  3. I love looking at cruise pics. Sometimes I don’t even want to do the lengthy reading. I just want to see pics. I figure out I would make a post requesting pics from your cruise. The only writings in this post should be short notes.. example “view from my balcony on Carnival Dream room 6310”

I wouldn't expect anything too big. You might get a little dessert or spa gift card. I went for my birthday too, and the best part about it was knowing that you get to celebrate your birthday in such an awesome setting.

That's true. I will be spending the actual day in Bahamas. Will be a lot of fun for sure.

I've gotten the 50$ spa card and 50% off a bottle of wine and a happy birthday dessert in the MDR. from our cabin steward.  Be sure to check that box on your cruise manager so they know.

They wouldn't let me transfer the spa card to my wife so I used it for a shave and a touch-up before elegant night.  I thought it was nice.  I like the spa treatment but I don;t generally like the spa price so the 50 dollar gift made it useful.  I think I got out only going over a few bucks and that was because I tipped the stylist.  We got a decent Malbec at the Steakhouse with the wine discount.

mmmm. Good idea. The tability to transfer would have been nice though because I am not really a spa person. My wife loves spa though so she would enjoy it.

I did a cruise for my 30th birthday back in 2008, I kinda remember getting sang to and served a piece of cake with a candle in it, but I don't remember getting anything else. Then again, I spent most of that cruise imbibing, so my memory is a bit fuzzy :classic_biggrin:

Maybe you got pampered and don't even remember.

  7. This year will be the first year I will spend my birthday on a cruise. I am excited about that. All my cruises have been just a regular vacation without any special celebrations like Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, Birthdays etc. Other than singing in the MDR, does carnival do anything for passengers celebrating a special occasion? Yes.... I am talking about freebies :)

That is so kind of you! Sounds like your travel companions are in great hands! If you think of it you should jump back on here and let us know how it went after you sail! I wish you all a grand cruise!

Thank you. I will. I was a regular poster on here until about 2 years ago. I am trying to make a comeback like Brett Favre and MJ did.

You are so welcome! I am super happy that you were able to benefit from them!

Well I can say that I second what Sweetiepie3 said regarding the lack of noise being located under the galley. In the photos I posted that cabin was under the galley on the Dream. I too was worried based on what others say but I never thought of it again once aboard the ship. We never heard a disturbing sound. It was very peaceful I must say.

Ok great. Thanks to you both. I am actually not too worried for my self but for the others I am traveling with. I guess I just always try to make our cruises too perfect when that may not be possible. Lol. Last cruise I was traveling with 3 first time cruisers and I was worried at least one of them would get seasick. It did not happened. They were all fine

  10. I feel a little better after reading this thread. First time booking a Cove Balcony. We have an adjoining room 2437 and 2439. I read reviews that say these rooms are noisy because they are under the galley. I am a bit worried but there are no other adjoining rooms left for Cove Balconies  and that is what I really want to experience.
