  1. 💯- this definition allows those who want to be spiffy that option while being inclusive to others as well. Seems as thought, logically, this makes the most people happy. Ah the term suggestions, I appreciate that. Maybe this is precisely why the Moon leadership is choosing to not be strict. Too much headache!
  2. Same! And I won’t give two thoughts to what others are wearing!
  3. I book based on ship and itinerary first and foremost. No regard to dress code because no matter what it is we will be able to comply in the minimally required way. Jacket for my DH but no tie for example. Do you seriously pick your cruise based on the dress code? Based on your signature it seems that you pick a variety of lines - including those that are more casual.
  4. I agree with your common sense approach - seems like everyone wins.
  5. I am not trying to make excuses - it’s similar to Alaska. I believe dress codes are relaxed on those itineraries. It’s not about the temp on the ship and it’s not a “problem” just found those itineraries to be more casual and trying to guess at why bitob was experiencing what he was.
  6. I know the policy however I can understand some of this as we completed an Iceland cruise in June and it was so cold during the port-intensive itinerary that the last thing most wanted to do was dress up for dinner. There were a lot of dark jeans being worn to dinner. Never sweats.
  7. I think many would agree with your post, minimally comply until things change, which will happen eventually. Thanks for your for input as it is always balance and lacks attacks or aggression. Others could learn a thing or two.
  8. Never said people should be denied their choice to dress up. I have been on Crystal in the Caribbean and a jacket was not required. It was resort casual and above. It was lovely. Lots of people dressed to the nines commingling with those in smart linen outfits. we are booked on SS and if nothing changes we will pack the required blazer for my husband and he will likely wear it to the table and hang it over the chair like many do already. We will play by the rules so we can experience the wonderful itinerary.
  9. I didn’t say every venue didn’t say public spaces. There are one or two formal nights where there are at least a few restaurants where not everyone is welcome solely based on what they are wearing which is old fashioned and ridiculous in my opinion.
  10. Well said. The thing that gets me steamed is that we can’t have a situation where everyone does their OWN thing. In this case it seems that those who love formal wear in this context won’t be happy unless everyone is forced to do the same or eat in their room.
  11. Would be a fun conversation for sure. Personally , I prefer a more elevated ambiance when it comes to visual aspects. Noise (background and otherwise) is a big peeve of mine but that is my problem and I get over it typically. I will say that a nice sports bar is always fun too, just not necessary on a cruise for me.
  12. Level of awareness and level of impact are two different things. In my bubble I dress more than appropriately for a given situation and have no regard for others appearance, it has no impact on me whatsoever.
  13. Thanks for the information, helps in knowing what to expect.
  14. I’m sure the trip will be enjoyed just the same.
  15. There is a wide distance between a slob and resort/business casual. Never heard of anyone on regent complain about slobs everywhere.
  16. I’m a woman so it is lost on me but seems like a ridiculous rule that has out served it’s usefulness. It reminds me of when we had to wear a mask to walk to our table at a restaurant and then promptly remove it. People said the same thing “what’s the big deal” - it’s NOT a big deal but silly nonetheless.
  17. Interesting. What is the value of “wearing” a jacket if only until you get to your seat and then it is over the back of the chair? Seems so silly.
  18. Good to remember for sure. Since our trip is a year away, on the newer ships, it will be interesting to see if there any changes.
  19. Should have said, widest customer base within their demographic. As the OP commented, they want to go on this cruise but may have made a different choice based solely on what they are learning about the the dress code. Why would SS want that? They have someone with the means, who likes the ship and itinerary but doesn’t want to wear a blazer or tie. Seems like an easy fix, no water slide needed.
  20. Isn’t it easier on everyone and enables the most to be happy, to just simply have a policy similar to Regent which is no jeans but besides that come as you would like? I just don’t understand why it has to be so complicated thus requiring staff interaction at all?
  21. Although your prompts are polite it comes down to $. The cruise line wants to have the widest customer base to drive revenue and the onboard staff is revenue and tip based. I agree with other that in this tight competition for $ this is not a fight or even a discussion that people want to have. I hope the rigid guidelines (men in jackets) go away and let people be adults and dress as they see fit.
  22. To be more clear - I love a cruise in a warm climate where linen pants and tops reign supreme without a blazer in sight. I realize that I can still enjoy Silversea but be relegated to certain restaurants on certain days. Oh well, I’ll enjoy either way.
  23. Gosh I hope that sticks for the Med next Summer. Albeit no sweatshirt 😊
