  1. I haven’t seen those commenting ever say they want to be causal all the time. There is a difference between a jacket and a tie requirement and casual all the time. Some of us “put up with” archaic dress codes to sail certain itineraries and certain ships. It’s OK to voice opinions here and more importantly with the cruise lines, in hopes they will move to more inclusive policies. Why do you think SSea changed the dc on Nova???
  2. This is the best and most succinct description, thanks.
  3. These opinions almost always come from those who prefer formal to the greatest extent. It rarely applies to any of the other aspects of travel. It’s nonsense to believe that someone would study the dress code policy, especially one as inane as SSeas which varies by ship, by night and by restaurant.
  4. With all that is going on this seems silly to continue to debate this. If formal/jackets become optional for all venues doesn’t this give everyone the “option” to be happy and have their preferences met?
  5. It has been beat to death… many think that clothing requirements should not be based on the restaurant and that like other lines, a simple dress code with formal optional and jacket optional is the way going forward.
  6. That is why jacket-optional can become a “thing” and satisfy most.
  7. It seems to me that they are headed in that direction, thankfully.
  8. Thanks, I pulled the graphic off another social media platform 😃 My mistake was linking this in my head to all ships, not just Nova. Now I have it straight and am grateful that our 12 day trip is on Ray (which I assume will take on the Nove dress code.)
  9. So did the blue jacket make an appearance because it is a Formal optional night or are you dining in Le Dame? It must be the former since you mention the staff enforcing the policy, correct? just trying to get this straight before our first trip on Nova next year.
  10. Have you found this to be true on your sailing:
  11. This is our first experience with Sea Dream and so excited to experience yachting at its finest. Anyone else joining us?
  12. We are staying at Esmeralda Hotel Resort for one night before our cruise in December. This is a first time but looks to be a good location and great reviews on TA.
  13. Sorry to hear that illness derailed your trip. When you say quarantine do you mean self-quarantine or were you under ship mandated quarantine? Just curious.
  14. This is how the process works, typically. This was superseded by the old Crystal rolling out the “escrow promise” when trying to entice bookings. It is old news and certainly not relevant to the new Crystal where the described reserve process is used. Another interesting note is that the credit card companies will hedge their reserves by cruise line based on risk of default or insolvency as a way to help with potential chargebacks. It was a very challenging time after COVID for this and many other reasons.
  15. Thanks for this. Up until now this thread has felt like gaslighting 101.
  16. Here we go again…what about the infamous “escrow”…I have been a Banking Executive for 30 years and I understand how chargebacks work as well as who bears the burden when using that option. I naively chose to trust Crystal when they said my deposit would be held in escrow. I don’t need a lecture on why I should forgo recollection of MY past experience and book another cruise with “family”.
  17. Maybe it is the hubris of the loyalists that is the biggest turnoff. Reminds me of when the “old” Crystal was going under and people here gave everyone grief who complained about how terrible the executives were for lying to customers about escrow. I actually prefer to have nothing more than a professional relationship with crew and staff - the original review was totally fair and not a big deal until the loyalists came out in droves to discount it mercilessly. Now there is more than just price and old ships as a reason to keep me off C in the future.
  18. This sounds fabulous. I love Lisbon and look forward to sailing on Ray from Lisbon next Summer.
  19. I totally agree that it is fine and even wonderful to find a line that is everything you want. I don’t expect that you spend much time on the SS board since you have a well-known favorite line. There are some loyal to Crystal folks that have in fact, in the last couple days, come onto the SS board and used the term “far superior”. No semantics.
  20. The posters I am talking about likely have a wish list but that was not the point. Those same folks comment relentlessly that C is superior to other lines.
  21. I could easily name a few…
  22. The REVIEWER just finished their cruise on Crystal. Have you read the review? Why are you so intent on discounting the reviewer’s comments?
  23. I assume that whomever posted that review on cruise critic did so because they felt that or perceived that to be the case. I find it funny that of all that was written people are getting so worked up about it.
  24. To be clear, you are saying this does NOT happen on Crystal but is does happen on SS? It is interesting to me that you are criticizing someone else's review - which is their own opinion of what they perceived/experienced.
