  1. My Husband owns one in navy so I would not say dressy but more of a sport coat - can be dressed up or down depending on what is worn underneath. It worked as a “jacket” on Crystal.
  2. Not sure how long your cruise is but you likely have one or two night that you have to wear a jacket and no tie. You can fully align to the casual elegance dress code and add a simple sport coat to meet the requirement. Have fun, meet the basic requirements and spend your extra money on a fabulous excursion or experience at SALT. I am sure I’ll get some eye rolls but Eddie Bauer (US brand) has a great Men’s blazer - I believe it is called the Travelers Blazer and it’s amazing. My husband wears one on the plane, it packs well, light weight etc. check it out. enjoy
  3. No need to be dark. A simple sport coat is just fine for the one or two nights a jacket is required.
  4. Any chance you got a peek at the aft cabins, particularly the balconies?
  5. I wouldn't dare, I got my butt handed to me many times when I merely mentioned my dissatisfaction with the "surrendered deposits" so I know better.
  6. We also sailed Crystal right before they went bust (and took some of our money with them) and it was nice, for the time. Since then so many new luxury ships have launched or will be launching, I think it will be hard for them to keep up. Especially when it comes to dining. As for the Crystal remodel, it looks a bit like lipstick on a pig IMO when compared to Nova.
  7. I would argue that the new code on Nova is better than that as everyone can dress how they prefer without being excluded. This change was based on customer feedback, not sure why these rabid complainers are getting so much attention.
  8. I think it is practices like that which highlighted the outdated requirements and potentially led them to change the policy for the new ships.
  9. Interesting. As a woman, you are right, we come out ahead. Since I do all of the packing for our trips, we do carry on only when possible, I often share what I believe my DH would say if asked. We are elegant casual fans every night if possible!
  10. This was so touching in many ways. Thank you for sharing. You have help focus my perspective this Monday morning and I am grateful. My wish is that you have the most amazing adventure in life and in Iceland next year! Cheers!
  11. Does this mean that you don’t cruise based on dress code? You mentioned that you stopped cruising Regent because it was too casual. Now you are going back more than likely even though it is still more casual than SS? Trying to understand your perspective.
  12. I presume that you still had a lovely time otherwise you wouldn’t keep booking, no?
  13. I would be very surprised if SS waived the cancellation policy. There is no basis since you can now dress exactly as you did on any other cruise with them. Maybe travel insurance would cover the cancellation 🙂 can you imagine the claim: I want to cancel because I fear the person next to me at dinner may not have a tie on.
  14. My boundaries for dinner attire is the stated dress code. I do enjoy seeing others in fancy attire but it in no way impacts my trip. It’s hard for me to believe that someone would stop sailing SS based on this change. It seems a lot of dramatic language when nothing has changed about the ability to dress up.
  15. This actually seems hard to believe. I can’t imagine that you would let your joy of dressing up on SS be “ruined” by the person next to you wearing a jacket and no tie. SMH Same with me. I was constantly told “why is so hard to follow the rules” and “if you don’t like it pick another line” and finally, when I asked if there is a restaurant where you can go with no jacket on formal night some one said “room service”. Now that things are more inclusive, while still encouraging personal choice to dress up or not, the pearl clutchers and others are finally showing their true motivation. It was never about “live and let live” is was always about everyone having to do the same old fashioned routine. I’m thrilled and will only book the newer ships as a result and make sure to always share my joy in the new, more inclusive code.
  16. You are reading far too much into it and stating that it would be in violation is a dramatic non- factual statement. This describes options of what you ‘can’ choose. You still have the options described in the casual section, in fact the sentence says: “Alternatively, adhering to Elegant Casual dress code is welcomed”
  17. Love that letter! I read the “jacket required in all spaces” as only on the one or two “formal optional” nights. So no big deal. We are thrilled with this development and ditching a tie and some more formal wear is a dream come true. This could very well make SilverSea our fav cruise line yet!
  18. Did your email say the same as posted above from @Dolcevita Diva ? Assume you are also on the Nova? Was this the only subject of the email or was there other pertinent information about your cruise as well?
  19. I would agree - especially the way the “announcement” was written.
  20. Thanks - I am hoping this stays the same for Silver Ray when we sail next June. Seems to be a reasonable approach and accommodates all. Why not? Maybe they are testing the concept and will roll out more broadly soon.
  21. This would actually be a fairly reasonable approach. Where did this come from?
  22. Here! Here! My goodness, reading this entire thread makes me worried about the friendless of the average passenger on board. Behind the keyboard there seems to be a whole lot of judgemental types. Never cruised with Silversea before and also never seen such wild posts about dress codes.
