Thanks to those that replied, some useful info.
So no irons, but hair straighteners are ok?...weird choice as the straighteners are far more of a fire risk.
One more if I may - what adaptors do we need? US style?
Thanks!
Which ship again?

Everyone on a cruise is equally wrinkled [emoji16]. Clothing that is...

Maybe you should read your cruise documents
No candles either
Agreed

The fire department can't just drive up to the ship to put a fire out while all the guests are outside in the parking lot. So no irons or power strips with surge protectors.

What ship will you sail? If I've been on it maybe I can help you think of other things

You can have a massage too! So many people don't get to relax in their daily lives. Sea days provide that opportunity. If I have an at home stacation I end up cleaning and doing all the things on the home to do list. Sea days force me into quiet mode or activity mode depending on the ship.

Please do the auto gratuities. If you want to give a specific person more that fine. But withholding the auto creates incentive for those who get cash to hand it over to the pool. This they don t get it all anyway

Doggielover so do you feel you have good sea day suggestions now?

Me too! I keep it and my driver's license separate for that reason.
I also enrolled in the Global Entry program - it is so much better getting the Pre-check security line most of the time when traveling inside the US.
Even if not getting a passport book, I'd suggest at least getting the passport card for closed loop travel - it's nice to have one thing (and a thing that fits conveniently in your wallet) instead of juggling multiple documents. While you need a passport to fly in and out of the country, I expect having it would at least make dealing that it easier if something unfortunate happened while on a closed loop cruise and you needed to fly.
Totally agree

I believe in having a passport. And I'm one. It to leave the ship without it. I'm in another country and things do happen that leave people stranded (accidents, illness, just misses the ship). That when you will have to have one. Think of the cost as being spread out amount 10 years. Plus you may want to take a drive to Canada or Mexico one day!

Love sea days. Work out. Have breakfast. Nap. Climb rock wall. Take a wine tasting or martini making class. Hang out with friends. So a trivia game. Enjoy the pool. Have several drinks. Enjoy dinner then a show. Go to night club. But of course it depends on which ship. That's why I like the mega ships like Royal's oasis class ships.

I'm starting to think the savory bites are a fan favorite. But each ship will say they don't have them anymore. Then the next day the server will bring some thus making you very excited. I think the servers like to make us feel special by being savory bites "just for you" [emoji16] Nice strategy

If you google " drink menu Oasis"'on cruise critic, you can find menus. Most cocktails are $13 right at the limit. And this includes top shelf brands usually. But you ha e to ask for the grey goose vodka or you will be given the "house"'brand.

First off, I live in Orlando and just experienced Irma. I too have an upcoming sailing on Harmony of the Seas and signed up to go because of the stop in St. Thomas. The few days prior to the storm hitting the islands, as well as after, I went on the RCCL website daily to see how they were handling upcoming cruises. They were offering different compensation options for many sailings (look on this board and you will see what others were offered). Needless to say I was shocked when I received the notice that we were just now going to St. Kitts. I have been to St. Kitts and it is not a replacement for St. Thomas. RCCL pays a premium docking fee to go to premium islands, which then translates to higher fares for the passengers. St. Kitts is not a premium island therefore RCCL comes out ahead financially on this one. I have been on 27 cruises, I get that this is hurricaine season and now that I live in Florida, I will never book another cruise during these months. Being stuck on a cruise ship while a hurricane is about to uproot your life is not something I will entertain. In fact, I'm worried that another one is going to form while I am on this upcoming trip and I won't be able to get back before it hits. In addition, I am (fortunately) getting my house repaired etc. after Irma.
I understand these islands are devastated. An option to rebook the same cruise at a different date when the islands are restored would have been a fair option. I resent having to go on this cruise right now not only because of the aftermath of Irma but also because the only island that I signed up for is not available at this time. So, I do agree with the original poster.
I do not relate to all of the "shaming comments" directed at his/her post. A more relatable scenario is If you had a flight that was cancelled or diverted, you would be upset especially if it ruined an itinerary. Flights are not as expensive as cruises and the duration isn't for a week.
At this point this is going to be my last cruise, don't know if I'll ever get to St. Thomas or any other island again. I have been to St. Thomas as well as most of the islands, but I had a specific reason for going to St. Thomas this trip. However, I do know for a fact if I ever cruise again, it will not be on RCCL. Would love to be excited and forget everything and have a good time like so many people have advised, but I have to find someone to repair my roof, a little hard to think about a cruise right now.
Even without the hurricane the ports could have been substituted as it states in the terms and conditions. Perhaps in the future it would be better to fly to your desired place than cruise. That way you have more control over reaching your destination. Just a suggestion.

This is a weekly question. Only Americans hesitate to get passports. Go figure.

But the OP's issue might be the immediate cost

Please get passports. Good for 10 years for adults. Then you have no worries. Think of the cost speed out over a decade

Irons are prohibited for safety reasons. You have to send out for pressing service. Please consult the Q&A on the Royal website for prohibited items. Hair dryers are in rooms but they are not the best. You can bring your own

Are you perhaps flying around the MLK holiday? That may explain it

It's nice to know of your son's interest i. Potentially working on a cruise ship. May I politely suggest that at age 15 he be the one to take the lead to explore his future options - whatever his interests are.

People who think that the slightest adjustment to any part of their cruise demands a refund or credit of some sort
There not being a non-pork, non-beef option for breakfast. Yes I love turkey bacon and turkey sausage!

By the way, was it a male or female passenger who asked the 2 of you to move?

Depends on how it was asked and if where I'm moving to is a less desirable spot or not. This has happened to me more times that I can count on a plane. It's usually a man asking me a woman for the aisle seat. I always say no. For some reason guys feel they should not be in the window or middle seat and that women will fit there just fine. But I digress. On vacation in the theatre of a ship I would likely move IF truly asked and not just flippantly stated "please move" and expected to do so
