  1. Well, one would have to decide which was “buffer”: being on a ship, which would give him great exposure to that one ship and only distant views of others, or being in a port for a few days visited by perhaps a half dozen different ships (for several hours each) each day - with ample opportunity to see them up close from the pier.
  2. Once he gets a passport in a certain name, THAT name will be more REAL than any other. He can then proceed to adjust his aliases to conform.
  3. Being in Nassau. If seeing a lot of ships is the goal, why not book a few days on land in St. Maarten - where the several ships calling there per day would give you a lot to see, while allowing some good island time.
  4. Are you in contact with any who shared your recent Provence/River cruise? Or with folks from other unusual trips? People who travel “out of the ordinary” frequently have input from specializing agents.
  5. These responses are extraordinarily tangential to the theme of this thread; Brooklyn hotels. Only a rank out-of-towner would contemplate booking a Brooklyn hotel - or would consider a taxi to the cruise terminal if he/she had been wise enough to book a Manhattan hotel.
  6. Who gives a damn. An automatic !5% 0r 18% tip is automatically added. If you think throwing a cash tip on top of that is going to get you a "generous pour" on your next round you deserve to get bilked.
  7. When we renewed, mine could be done on line -- but my wife for some reason had to show up. Appointments at JFK were months ou (and a pain to get to) so we just winged it and while visiting my daughter in Hartford we "walked in" at BDL ( Hartford Internationa;) -- there was no line and wer were in and out in 15 minutes. Like so many other government programs it is stupidly run.
  8. Just below the posting is the word "Quote" --you hit on that, and then enter your response. To save space, you can delete as much of that posting as is unnecessary to identify that to which you are responding.
  9. Yes, generally - Istclass couchette likely to have 4 bunks, and 2nd class 6 - bunks. Premium sleeper compartments with just 2 bunks and often en-suite facilities are not referred to as couchettes.
  10. Efforts to contain a disease can hardly be thought of as practicing worship of that disease.
  11. It is just a very crowded port, with very little to offer (other than a rather expensive day visit to Atlantis on Paradise Island). It’s location, near both Miami and Fort Lauderdale, makes it a natural first or last stop on short cruises - frequently having up to five or six large ships each carrying up to 4,000 passengers. Most experienced cruisers who have been there once see it as good stay-aboard port for every subsequent visit.
  12. That is a good first step - then you can Google the port name to check the information, and finally Google the names/itineraries of individual ships which have come up to find confirmation.
  13. I was just commenting that three visits to Nassau is a painful way to look at ships.
  14. Sure -- but it is easier (and much less expensive) getting to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on foot from a hotel in lower Manhattan than from any hotel in Brooklyn worth seriously considering for a pre-cruise stay.
  15. Makes sense - think about finding other activities.
  16. Are you referring to Hyacinth or to her brother in law, Onslow.
  17. The fact that it is low price and at the end of the season means that it is LIKELY to be not as enjoyable as those in mid-season. You should be willing to live with the conditions (which might be unseasonably warm and ideal) — just understand you own threshold of “too cold”.
  18. Would that £50 “cancellation” cost be in addition to the “non-refundable deposit” , or would it be deducted from your deposit, meaning you’d get £250 back? If so, that sounds like the best bet. If that £50 fee is just to let you walk away from your deposit - that sounds like insanity. The idea of spending another £250 to protect your £300 deposit only makes sense if you are CERTAIN you could make that other cruise.
  19. Wow - three port calls at Nassau - if it’s “just for fun”, I think I’d prefer visits to a dentist.
  20. I would say that the ship will PROBABLY get in on time and that it is UNLIKELY that there will be delays, so you SHOULD be able to get to JFK by 7:45 AM (the latest reasonable time to get to the gate by 9:45 -the latest time boarding would commence) all this betting on there being no delays getting a taxi - and relying on light Sunday morning traffic. BUT -- much as I would prefer a daytime flight to LHR, I would prefer to figure out a way to spend my day (perhaps in a hotel day room) and catch an evening flight rather than sweat. p.s. Have you got TSA Pre-Chek?
