One more Pinehurst story...the story of Payne Stewart.  Payne was a very successful golfer who won the US Open at Pinehurst in 1999 (along with 2 other previous major championships).  He was part of the 1999 US winning Ryder Cup team a couple of months after his US Open win. He was known for his traditional golf attire with a flat cap and "plus fours" pants.

Shortly after the Ryder Cup win, his jet was flying from Orlando to Dallas and lost cabin pressurization.  It's believed that all on board were incapacitated from hypoxia.  The plane flew off course on a northwest track.  Air traffic control tried to contact the plane but there was no response.  The jet flew for several more hours before running out of fuel and crashing in South Dakota.  I remember watching this play out live on TV for a couple of hours.  It was almost certain that all on board were dead, but there was still hope that something could miraculously happen, until the plane crashed.  It was a very spooky thing to watch, especially being a golf fan and having Payne Stewart, one of the best golfers in the world at the time, onboard.

Pinehurst has a statue behind the No. 2 course 18th green showing Payne in his celebratory stance after sinking a 15 foot putt to win the 1999 US Open.

Here's an 11-minute documentary about the plane crash.

They had an episode of “Air Disasters” on Smithsonian Channel about the Payne Stewart crash. Very sad.

Not sure if you care but your clothes will be washed with other people's clothes, each in their own mesh bag. That bothers some people.

I know that some people have a problem with this, but I figure sheets, washcloths, towels, etc. all get washed together as well and most people don’t have a problem with that so really no big deal. I’m sure the commercial/industrial strength detergent they use kills everything 🙂

When did they lose family status ? Sounds like if they fell on hard times you would not help ?

    Exactly !

Personally it makes me feel quite nice to be able to help my grown children along the way !

I also enjoy travelling... It's called balance , and everyone needs to find their it .

    Cheers

Well said. I would never tell anyone or try to influence anyone how to spend their money. It’s none of my business. Likewise it’s nobody’s business but mine how I spend my money.

When I was a teenager I was super sad I couldn't tan, but as a middle-aged mom it's moments like these that make me happy I am not a sunbather, have never (past the age of 16) laid out in a lounger, and and cannot tan if my life depended on it. Chair hogs are just so rude.

We try to avoid the sun as well, and like to get a lounger in the shade. Those can be hard to come by as well.

There's recent information out on the Florida Departure board here.  I think Uber/Lyft is around $80, so taxis would be similar.

My suggestion is to check out 1 day car rentals.  Lots of agencies in Cocoa Beach Port Canaveral and no one way charges.  Depending on # in party might be the cheaper option.

This is what we do when sailing out of Port Canaveral. Easy to do and has always worked out well. Nice to have a car for the pre cruise stay as well.

Have been on Radiance class several times and have never seen the Solarium roof opened....however was surprised that Serenade did open theirs on our PC cruise this past October cause the humidity in there was steamy.

I was going to post the same thing. I’ve been docked next to Radiance class ships with the Solarium roof opened but never on a sailing I’ve been on. The humidity can be overbearing.

One reason I enjoy my Aft/Corner Cabin, always been light sleeper, its quiet and nobody walks by my Door in that corner.

I’ve had several aft cabins in the past, but in recent years I’ve been booking cabins more midship, close to the stairs/elevators, including our upcoming cruise in April. May have to start looking at those aft cabins again. Light sleeper here as well.

I love entertainment on rccl but prefer celebrity since it’s more of a adult cruise, currently on a music charter on celebrity that is adults only, great cruise.

That sounds wonderful. We haven’t sailed X since 2002, only Royal as we love the ships and entertainment. Now that we’ve made it to the half-century club I think it’s time we start looking hard at making the change back to Celebrity. Nothing against kids (well behaved ones) but the more adult environment sounds much more to our liking.

Okay all you Below Deck fans, the preview for the new season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht is up on the Bravo website.  Captain Glen, Gary, Colin and Daisy are all back for another season.  Here is a link if anyone is interested.

Looks like Gary hasn’t changed at all. Really getting sick of his antics. Never been a big fan of BDSY but I’ll give it another chance!
