  1. We did the 2019 WC in the southern hemisphere going around both capes with 5 (I think) segments. It wasn’t optimal, but is was mostly OK. Then we did Panama to L.A. as segmenters on the 2021-22 WC. I would have to say we did feel a bit of snootiness towards us by the WCers. Except those repeating from our 2019 WC and it was fun to see them again. So I wouldn’t worry about it.
  2. Yes, this I agree with. No need for piped in music. But the live music is often wonderful!
  3. Well I, for one, would hate to see this happen. Many enjoy music with evening cocktails. And there are plenty of music-free venues on board.
  4. I remember the walk around Seydifyordhur as being wonderful. We were there in July, 2021, on the day all Covid restrictions were lifted. Everyone was out and about, greeting each other, and even us. One woman even said it had been so long since she had spoken English with visitors that she was glad to be practicing again. It’s just a happy memory for us. Sorry you missed the other tours.
  5. Wow. Linda. I didn’t know this. You were so lucky. Our next cruise wasn’t until April, so it was just canceled. Hard to remember those times!
  6. Well it never occurred to me either. I also got a letter from my doctor saying she was re-locating. And lots and lots of Viking catalogues!
  7. Yes, we also had everything electronic before our WC. But you never know what will arrive. I got a jury summons. Since I knew about it, I was able to deal with it while abroad.
  8. And be sure you have USPS’s service Informed Delivery so you can see what has actually arrived for you. There is very little except junk these days, but sometimes there is something you need to know about and have opened by your family member.
  9. Just did that. A big pasta salad made in the biggest pot I have. I bought nice plates and glasses yesterday, and a dishrack. The pasta pot took up the whole dishrack. Enchiladas next, and a big green salad. Then my husband will grill the rest! It’s 9 am and I’m ready for a glass of that wine I am chilling!
  10. OK, I’ve changed my mind. I will do any cruise, to any place, any room category, on any line—well not on any line. My dishwasher is backed up, I have 20 coming tomorrow, the plumber can’t get here until Tuesday, maybe. Just get me out of here! (sorry for thread drift!)
  11. I think the current most popular ocean cruise is British Isles Explorer. It took over as top spot from Viking Homelands after all the changes were made last year and St. Petersburg dropped.
  12. We were booked on a Mississippi Heart of the Delta cruise but canceled it when Viking turned it into a cruise tour, when it could no longer sail all the way up to Memphis. It had, I believe, a two night hotel stay on each end. And at the end, you had to get off the ship and drive to Memphis on a bus. This just wasn’t appealing to us. Now, I must say that we are currently booked on a Douro River cruise tour, with a Lisbon hotel stay at the beginning, and then a bus up to Porto. But that will be our 10th Viking cruise. It will certainly not give the flavor of the Viking cruises that got us up to ten,
  13. Well, I just learned something new! Thanks Linda. Had no idea one could do this.
  14. We went through Frankfurt in March coming from Barcelona. Although I worried about it, everything went like clockwork. That said, however, high summer months are undoubtedly busier.
  15. Oh, good, I thought I was missing something. When we flew back from Oslo, it was much easier than from Bergen. We will just have to keep our flight at 6 am from BGO to AMS on KLM, and then onward. I bet we won’t be the only ones on that flight!
  16. I am also interested in this. But I, too, just searched for next May and found no nonstop flights from BGO-EWR.
  17. Thanks Linda. We LOVE Indian food. And the good restaurants seem to be changing since the pandemic.
  18. I found and saved this link. https://apple.news/A1wIE2KAyTxiqAWWWA857cA
  19. And don’t forget, you promised to post to us on the Douro Cruise board about your experiences. I can’t wait to read about your trip!
  20. Oh, and I hope I don’t need to say it, Jim, this is just an observation, not a condemnation, judgement or anything else. Yes, this board is only fun if we all get along!
  21. Im from L.A. I remember Rodney King.
  22. I think you are being a bit thin skinned. Lots of really evil posts, this isn’t one. Enjoy your cruises. Most people here, I think, are well meaning, as are you and Jim. Peace!! There are so many other things to worry about.
