  1. Oasis is not our favorite ship ( read... 'too big') but we have been invited to join a bunch of friends so may try her again. The last time we were on her there was a smallish lounge D in the forward part of the ship. Now we see there is a D lounge on Deck 11 aft. We are D+ and are wondering if there are any ADDED benefits above the D lounge. What I am asking is; are D & D+ all treated equally on Oasis? No differences? Reserved section at entertainment venues? On Quantum, we had CL access as D+ and got a few other benes from Concierge (like Coastal Kitchen dinner), we also had reserved balcony seating section for shows. TIA. No bashing please.

  2. Got off the Q last week. The Grande is the only 'formal' restaurant. Men must wear a jacket but at the entrance, they will 'loan' you one while you are dining. Chic, American Icon, WJ, Cafe two70 = anything goes. There were several passengers wearing shorts and Tshirts in ALL 4 of these restaurants; no questions or comments made by staff when entering. (We never went to Silk)

  3. Bumper Cars, Skating, Circus School, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer - was there anything going on for those passengers of an older and less mobile age.

Doesn't sound as of there was much.

Royal Caribbean are going for the younger generation, which I think they might come to regret in the future.

I am wondering what type of activities you would expect for the 'less mobile' in the Seaplex that appears to be a gym/sports court. I am 65 and play volleyball 3X a week and am exited to hear it will be available indoors since most of the time it's too windy to play on the ships' outdoor court. From what I understand there is still BINGO, Trivia, Karaoke type activities. What other activities would you suggest for the less mobile?

  4. We let our 'grands' know about our up coming cruise and they make a picture (or 2) for us to find our door easily. It's usually their (unusual) interpretation of what our ship and trip will contain. Often our neighboring cabin dwellers thank us for making it easy to find their cabin too.

  5. I also enjoy the iced tea. Makes me know I am on a cruise. I add 'pink sugar'. I ALWAYS have had it with dinner in the MDR. I will let the waiter know on the first night that I would like iced tea and it is often there when I arrive at the table and refilled as needed. Many of my tablemates will do it also. Never been an issue. DH like coffee with dinner and after informing the staff of his preference, his cup is always taken care of.

  6. If things are the same as with the 'old' Cape Liberty tent, there are shared vans available after you go through customs. The vans go to EWR, Newark Penn Station and occasionally stop at hotels on the route. Last month the cost was ~$16pp to EWR. No reservation needed. There was a queue under the tent before. I am guessing they will have something similar. It is about a 15 minute ride to EWR and they drop you off at you airline departure area.

  7. Thanks for the recommendations. You both signed up for this privately, not as a ship's excursion?

Yes. Privately. Just went on their website and found our ship & date. Their 'hut' is just outside the cruise entrance on the left as you exit.

  8. Just got off a 2 week cruise with a WONDERFUL stop in Saguenay. We used fjordetmonde

http://www.fjordetmonde.ca/. The young (22 y.o.) guide was fabulous as was the driver (who happened to be the father of the 22 y.o.'s girlfriend. We had a great tour and all the women wanted to adopt the young man. It was my favorite port of call; friendly people, beautiful scenery. The van was a mini bus so we had an easier time getting on/off. 3/4 of the bus was cruise critic folks. I would HIGHLY recommend them for a tour.

  9. We decided to try Celebrity. Our 1st cruise was on the Summit 10 years ago and with our RC D+ status we thought we would enjoy the perks of Elite. The cruise was fabulous. Food was exceptional although I would say RC food is very good. Most everything was good. Our biggest disappointment was in the perks that we received. We believe that although we are D+, our switch to Elite was actually a step down. The evening free drinks and hors ds event was not as good as D+. The munchies consisted of itty bitty canapes of tuna, chicken & a 3rd choice; they were served on a tray & were about ½ square inch. The drink choices were limited to basic mixed drinks; we could not get black Russians. There were no welcome aboard gift, no choc covered strawberries or canapes delivered to the stateroom. The Elite breakfast was limited to cold plates & pastries; no typical breakfast items – bacon, eggs, waffles, cereal, etc. The staff was wonderful. The priority tendering process was very good. Although we did enjoy ourselves, we will probably stay loyal to Royal.

  10. Best bet. Don't confuse the airlines by putting them on before flight. They might get ripped pff and it's easier for the baggage handlers to only deal with necessaries. After you retrieve you luggage from the carousel, put them on and remove the airline tags. Also. Just in case, put an itinerary in an outer pocket of each suitcase. Of course in suitcase should have an ID tag with info. Don't put your home info cuz then the crooks know you're not there. We use our name and our son's cellphone as contact number and a note saying 'itinterary in <lower> outside pocket. If things get lost, maybe you luggage can follow you, knowing where you're going. Just my ideas.
