  1. Hey jc811, we are also booked with Herod for the end of Oct and looking forward to it. BUT, I wanted to ask. Have you lived in Milford long? It's my home town. We lived across the street from what used to be Milford High School, now the government center. I graduated MHS in '67.

  2. Also please go to the starboard side of the ship (usually the side that's tied to the pier in Bayonne) to see the beautiful and profound memorial to 9/11 given to us by the Russians. It is the twin towers split down the middle with a giant teardrop hanging between them. The backdrop is no longer there.

  3. Just a thought. I thought service animals wore a particular vest to signify their 'job' and that people are not supposed to interfere with them (i.e. making contact with them) because they are working. I would think a dog 'wearing clothes' would not be the same as the service vest. I don't mind if they are there to alleviate/help with an owner's disability. I would have a problem with the owner trying to get extra attention by using the dog as a 'prop'.

  4. Barcelona is our favorite city. BUT YOU NEED TO BE AWARE AT ALL TIMES. There are many street performers that are highly entertaining with ppl crowding to see them. Do NOT stand in the crowd, stand back to watch. The thieves may be milling through the crowd. We went to the night time Majic Fountains; it was wonderful but returning to our hotel via the subway; it was very packed in the cars and that is where one guy tried to lift my DH's wallet from his upper 'breast pocket' and under/through his coat (that's not where he hid it). DH grabbed his arm and loudly said "Pickpocket". He backed off with his hands raised in the air and kept his hands raised til the next subway stop. Then he and his pack of friends exited quickly. Most are not out to do you physical harm, they just want your $$$. We kinda laugh and tell people that there must be a P.U. in Barcelona; "Pickpockets University".

  5. Interesting thoughts. I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and still learning the goods & bads. If anyone has done the 'diabetes special diet' as listed in your onboard preferences, I would really like to here what is included in that plan. Is there a separate menu with carb numbers or just a different menu? Are there choices? I have 9 weeks to figure this out before my next cruise. TIA

  6. Last cruise as D+ we went for breakfast in the Concierge Lounge. Very quiet, serve yourself; bagels, bread, croissants, there were 2 toasters. Fruit assortment platter, coldcuts. cereals, coffee, tea, milk, juices. We found it perfect for breakfast without overdoing the calories. A very peaceful place.

  7. An update on my adventure. I ordered Rx mask for DH; he is thrilled how clear everything is. I couldn't get a mask for my Rx so my lovely DH took my clear mask (no Rx) and since I just got new glasses he took an older pair, removed the bows and smoothed the edges. The glasses fit VERY snugly in the mask and in the proper position for me to see. MY GLASSES DO NOT BUDGE! We then went to our son's inground pool to 'check things out'. My snorkel & mask worked perfectly but DH's snorkel (after about 3/4 breaths) started making gurgling sounds and water would come in through the bottom valve (purger?). On closer inspection, there seems to be a slight defect in the smoothness of the plastic that the 'valve' lies against. We will be visiting the dive shop tomorrow; hopefully for a free replacement of (at least) the purge section. I did some more research about fogging cuz I was having that issue. I used the baby shampoo/water combo rinse and let them dry the night before. I also paid attention to leave my mask in place even coming up out of the water, turning away from the sun also. WOW - no foggingI should be taking the class this Saturday but I feel very comfortable floating around both with with/out the snorkel vest. I am so excited, I am setting up 3 snorkel adventures for our cruise in October.

  8. I <think> the we can no longer combine balcony discounts and military discounts (or maybe any other discounts?) I guess we should just take the highest one. I also read somewhere that 'unless it states; no other discounts can be applied'. Does anyone know WHERE this 'no other discounts can be applied' statement would be found when searching for cruises? TIA

  9. I went to the local shop. They were FABULOUS. I had done research and discussed corrective lenses. They were really out of my price range considering I am not totally sure I will stick with this. I talked to them about the Amazon -10 for under $60 and she says they couldn't come close to that price but when I get them, bring them in to make sure they fit properly. I am also signing up for a beginners lesson that she says will be lots of fun. I did get a snorkel with a smaller mouth piece & valve to keep out water. Since it was a discontinued style she gave it to me for $20. I will also be getting a vest from them. If I stick with this, they have definitely got a new customer; and they're only 2 blocks from my house. Thank you both for your encouraging advice.

  10. We have cruised a lot. I tried snorkeling once (using 'their' equipment) and I liked it. I am considering getting my own mask & snorkel; I don't care much for swimfins. I know there e masks for with 'kinda' Rx lenses using the -/+ of your own Rx. My own Rx is -11. I see that -10 is available (at least online) and I will probably check our local dive shop to see what they have (and maybe take their beginner class). Do these Rx masks work well? I have what my dentist calls a small mouth (DH disagrees LOL). Are there snorkel mouth sizes or are they pretty standard? And 3rdly, when I tried the snorkeling, I used a noodle for 'buoyancy'. Do many of the snorkel type excursion supply some type of float? TIA I don't want to go crazy with equipment but would like to try my own stuff.

  11. DH & I (D+) scheduled a cruise with the 2 minor grandgirls. Adult DD now wants to go (1st time cruiser). Can I switch our ressie to DH & DD (for 1 balcony disc't) and put myself for the other, Studio Balcony; therefore getting Balcony discounts on both? The only diff in our names is the middle initial. Also, I believe we could take the girls to the CL for breakfast. What about adult DD. I understand none of them could come to CL in evening.
